February 7, 201115 yr Ed,as Wim said, I haven't experienced any problems running Windows 7 (64 bit) and Squawkbox. Also, FS2Crew doesn't in any way interfere with flying online, rather it can help you with procedures you could otherwise forget. While I don't have FS2Crew for the JS4100, I do use FS2Crew voice editions frequently with LevelD, PMDG747 and Maddog. Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------

February 8, 201115 yr Author Well, just signed up for IVAO uk and will sign up for Vatsim this evening. Very excited about this I have to say :smile:IVAO mentioned a small, basic exam. Does any one know/remember what this entails? Ed Haslam
February 8, 201115 yr There´s no need to stay focused on just one onlineenvironment. Just check onlinestates of the two different networks und decide which one serves you better on the flight you wanna do.With VATSIM and the onlineclient FSInn it´s possible to display Payware AI Models. Also there is a nice tool from Peter Hornfeck to integrate most of your (Payware) AI Models into the FSInn Database.http://nordenflieger.de/temp/AC_ICAO_45.zipBest regardsKai Bock
February 8, 201115 yr There are no issues with vatsim and W7. The one who told you that is misinformedIf you read my post you will see I was refering to personal problems I have had getting Win7 Squwakbox and FSX to function for more than 3 minutes without crashing. Hence my move in utter frustration to IVAO. Apologies if that was unclear but this comment was made from personal experience rather than idle rumour. There are plenty of others who have had the issue and it is heavilly discussed on Sqwuakbox forum. February 9, 201115 yr Author No probs Benji. Thanks again for your input. I have a couple if additional questions regarding online flying:1, Is performance (FPS) affected, noticeably?2, Can I use my addon traffic (Ultimate Traffic II) for 'visual' models in either Vatsim or IVAO? If not, what are the existing AI models like? Are the acceptable?3, How is weather handled? Can I use ASE or is there a separate weather 'system'?4, Can I use REX for weather visuals?TIA! Since your not using default ATC your frames should be a litle better as your CPU is doing less calculations. I have FSINN running of a seperate PC this also helps as you can have your comms running out of seperate speakers (you can do this on your main PC with a USB soundcard)2.Yes, I chose FSINN as it uses all your addon aircraft and matches it to what others are using, eg if I'm holding behind someone flying a PMDG BA 744 I'll see that exact aircraft if I have the same PMDG repaint installed. If not it will pick the closest match from installed aircraft.I would recoomend Sqbox for new users as it's very simple to setup, however the built in aircraft are beyond bad. I tried to change them myself but realised FSINN does it all for you every time you start it. FSINN also gives you flashing beacons NAV lights, night lighting etc so it looks a lot better.3.Use Active sky, you can use FSINN or Sbox inbuilt weather but it's rubbish like the FS default real weather.4.Yeah no problem, all your doing is flying online rather then using AI aircraft and ATC, nothing else in the sim changes. Also it may have been mentioned before but I really would suggest parking up at a busy airport like Heathrow or Frankfurt in the evening and just listen to the comms on the various frquency's. For the first few day's I used to just log on everynight and get a feel for what's going on, you will find it's a much more dynamic then any ATC program so you need to keep on your toes regarding taxi instructions, readbacks, last minute SID changes trying to get a word in on busy freq etc etc. All good fun tho and when your ready to fly find yourself a quiet airport and start from there.Good luck :) Rob Prest

February 9, 201115 yr Commercial Member Ace, a few quick questions, what client does IVAO use? can it be run on a seperate machine? can you use payware models to display other traffic?Lastly, are you really a dreadlocked Rastafarian? It can be run externally and internaly within FSX,, The traffic is done by handpainted basic exteriors of every aircraft and livery going,, its brilliant, payware models and "substitutions" are awful idea..Dreadlocked Rasta?? Why would I put it in my signiture if I wasnt one?? What makes you think that it's questionable? Alex Ridge Join Fswakevortex here! YOUTUBE and FACEBOOK

February 10, 201115 yr Author No worries guys, thanks again for an interesting read and some good banter. One final, final question: is it ok (good etiquette) to sit at a gate and listen to live ATC? Do you have to let the ATC controller know of your intentions? How about logging out of your session? Are you expected to let ATC know?Off to do some reading... Ed Haslam

One final, final question: is it ok (good etiquette) to sit at a gate and listen to live ATC? Do you have to let the ATC controller know of your intentions? How about logging out of your session? Are you expected to let ATC know?Off to do some reading...You don't have to inform ATC but most would suggest putting something in the comment section like - 'New to Vatsim please speak slowly' 'New user observing ATC no flight today' And you can log off whenever you want no need to let anyone know. You only need to worry about logging on, it should never be on a runway or taxiway, your aircraft should always be parked and shut down at the gate/ramp before connection.Regards Rob Prest
