HELP! I've messed up my ground textures!

Featured Replies

Help desperately needed please if possible.....OK, So I think I have messed up big time and the last thing I want to do is to completely re-install FS9 and all my years of hard work so this would be the last resort! What's happened is this, I installed a programme containing ground textures (not going to mention which one it is) and decided that I did not want it so un-installed it and it seems to have messed up some of my textures. As an example, starting off at the default airport Seattle on the active runway, on each side of the runway and all around the textures are blue with light blue and red grainy lines! Then when I take off virtually all the ground textures have gone, they are just a blur! Also the mountains are blue as well! This also applies to anywhere in the world so I think I have corupted my World scenery folder?I don't want to start messing around with anything I am not familiar with, I did think about re-installing disc 1 again but not sure if that would do more damage than good. As I said, I do not really want to have to completley re-install everything again as I think this is any flight simmer's worst nightmare! Anybody that can please help me out on this I would be most grateful, thanks.

You won't mention the texture program, but from what I've seen normally they back up the default textures somewhere first before they install the new ones (Knowing what program might help give a lead on where to look.) On any of those programs, you should see if there is a step to replace the default textures before uninstalling. In the worst case back up your current scenery\world\texture just copy out the scenery\world\texture folder from the install disks. I think there are listing in the library of all the contents of the install disks/cab files.scott s..

I think that textures are on disc 2. I stand to be corrected. steve

Resources for locating the files on your install disks:http://www.cat-tamer.com/flightsim/faq001.htmlIt shows where everything is on your install disks and how extract just what you need. And fs9cddir.zip - compiled by Brian Collins (available here in the library)This is an Excel format listing of all the files on your install disks. A great resource to keep handy.Good Luck!

OK thanks for the replies. I have had a good look into the link by Opa but I am little confused to exactly what I should be doing. I have installed disk 2 and found the MSGAME3.CAB file but not sure what I am supposed to do and where it goes (sorry to sound thick!). I cannot find the right one for Textures which is I assume is the one I need but having said that how do I know that I don't need the ones on disk 3 or 4 which contains the scenery CAB files? It's all a bit confusing as to what exactly I need to replace and how to do it. Any further assistance would be greatly appreciated otherwise I may have to start all over again which is something I don't really have the time for! Thanks again

That tutorial demonstrates restoring default gauges, which are located in MSGAME3.CAB. In your case you need to restore ground textures which are in WORLD.CAB located on disk 4. The procedure is the same though, extract WORLD.CAB to a temporary folder and then copy everything from the TEMP\World\Texture folder and paste it into your Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\World\Texture folder allowing overwrites. This will restore everything to default so if you had any water or environment enhancements installed you'll need to reinstall them (clouds will survive).Jim

Yes thanks again for everyone's help and support, I must say that this is definately the best forum for people helping one another. Some forums (no names mentioned!) do not seem to have the same kind of help and advice but this is definately a good one to be part of. Keep up the good work everyone and thanks again :(

I have had strange water textures in different parts of the world (greenish water) and off the coast of the Netherlands a patch surrounded by the blue(default?) sea. Have different Ground & Environment sceneries and maybe one of these made this strange effect.Shall I un-install these first and what about airport sceneries.I have a clean default FS2004 on a friend's PC, can I copy the default texture map from there.Do I have to remove the texture map which I will be replacing first?Do I have to do anything to the Scenery file as some files in EURW were altered by VFR NL although these should alter back when un-installed.Which scenery files are put in EURW.Posted a similar message earlier as I thought it was a regional problem.

Have Ground Environments, restored their back-up file.Got the default water back around but the rectangular/oblong demarcation patch, see my previous message is still there. Because the greenish colour has gone it is a little less obvious. I still think this has to do with VFR NL. I am still puzzling it out.
