Agreed Francois, lovely stuff indeed welcome to Century 21 AVSIM :)

Thanks guys , a kind word goes a long way sometimes. For the staff who have been working with the new site and getting to know wordpress it's something of a new dawn, the ability to have that "Read More" button available means the complete contents of product release information can be added with pictures, it was previously necessary to edit the content to manageable constraints so an equitable amount of page space was allotted to each item and a tight front page would result .The look and feel of our new site is second nature to those who have been working with it , when i first saw it my reaction was also shock, i had been seeing " The Olde " front page first thing every morning for years and took comfort in its familiarity, looking with great anticipation through the days new files and posting them, checking out those i wanted to download and catching up with the goings on in the forums, and that same familiar feeling is there now, with a completely new face, like an old friend just got back from cosmetic surgery , it took me a moment to get over the shock , but it didn’t take long to realize it was my old friend

Yeah, I 'did' the old site too for a couple of years, but have been running more than 30 Wordpress sites the past 5 years or so. Especially from an editors and webmaster's point of view it is SO much more flexible and it will allow much quicker updates and changes when necessary.Maybe the chosen template or layout will not please everybody, but overall it will surely improve Avsim's services.

Hiya all! Congrats on the new site design. It sure looks nice and a lot more like 'now'
I echo this sentiment. There are a couple of bumps to work out (as expected) but it is a huge improvement over the old site. Thanks for all your work AVSIM team!

I read with interest the comments on the new site design before the temporary switch back to the old. I am still not used to the new design, and I missed the concise summary for every news item. "Read more" appeared like a lot of effort after years of being spoilt with well-written summaries. But now of course, with the Facebook link, I get news as it happens. So I like the progress and integration with social media. Hope you guys can manage to please a large fraction of the user base. But not everyone will be happy, I suspect.Best regardsPaul

As a new AVSIMer I just wanted to say that I like the new site. When I fist stumbled into AVSIM about a year ago the first thought on my mind was "Who the heck was running this thing?" I know 12 year olds who can build better websites than this. I can imagine the old veterans hating it because it's a shock to their senses but I think AVSIM need to move on and get with the times. With MS Flight coming out you might have new visitors stopping by. You want to make a good impression don't you?

Wordpress is a newspaper/blog format. That's not 20th century... let alone 21st. The first newspaper was written in 59BC in Rome. The first 'modern' newspaper was written in Germany in 1605.The new layout was cluttered and impossible to locate information quickly. It had lost a great deal of important information at a glance that the old format provided. This 'rush' to make all things iPad/Facebook/Twitter friendly/reliant is not very well thought out in my opinion.

Actually, by now Wordpress is what a skillful designer MAKES of it. The 'blog times' are long gone already again

How much coding (.html, etc.) is involved in Wordpress? We're getting heavy in SharePoint where I work, where the GUI is getting simplistic enough that the business doesn't have as much of an IT dependency to build web pages (at least stock out of the box pages).

You can also put lipstick on a pig, but its still a pig!I'm all for bringing the site up to modern standards but the narrow cluttered version we recently saw was a significant step back in terms of usability from the old.
