March 25, 201115 yr I just started flying a plane with a 530w GPS after a long time training in very simple Cessnas with Nav-Com radios linked to VOR guages. I honestly didn't think it could get any better. I even bought myself a 696 for my own personal flying, which blew my mind when I started using it.And then this came along...http://static.avsim.net/forum/uploads/monthly_03_2011/post-162457-0-55187100-1301023117_thumb.jpgThis is the latest and greatest from Garmin, touch screen GPS with weather and terrain overlays. Amazing!Check out some of the videos at the garmin website and on the web, it's like using an Iphone. When will the RXP boys make one of these for the sim crowd?
March 25, 201115 yr It sucks in turbulence. I think I'll stick to the 430W all I need are those LPV approaches. The rest I can figure in my head or with EFAS. Chris Miller
March 25, 201115 yr Why's that Chris? I'm not familiar with the unit. Menus look clunky to me. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
March 25, 201115 yr Author @ Chris: have you used one?I can imagine the touchscreen is squirrely in a plane that's shaking, but I guess that's why they made anchor points for your hand(gimmick, yeah I know) so that in theory your hand shakes with the plane and is stable relative to the gps. BTW what's EFAS? I know what an EFIS is, but that acronym is new to me...I really hope this tech comes down to the portable level so that the next generation of the 696 has it. I find the interface on the 696 is clunky, slow, and unintuitive, it takes too long to redraw maps and bring up charts. I think this will decrease with more personal use time, but at first it's a bit intimidating and frustrating when you are getting the hang of it.

Any little slip and you are off to another page you didn't want to go to. The only thing I can really see that is different from the 430/530 series is the safe taxi feature. Chris Miller
March 25, 201115 yr Here's some more info from AOPA:AOPA Online: Long-awaited 430/530 successor AMD 7800X3D, RTX 4090, 42" LG C3 OLED 4K TV/Monitor
March 25, 201115 yr Now that I watch more videos it is nice having all the other functions like transponder and audio panel in the 750. Still in turbulence it is difficult to anchor your hand. That is why the rail buttons and knob work so well on all the other units. You can pinch and hold the rail with two fingers then push a button down. You can't pinch their anchor points on the new units. Chris Miller

March 26, 201115 yr This looks absolutely amazing...I currently use a single GNS430w. I would love to upgrade to this!As for the turbulence, I find that in heavy turbulence, it doesn't matter what buttons you have, it's still difficult to operate while you are bouncing around.-m@ Matt Salo - Minneapolis, MN, USA (KMSP & KFCM) - My Flight Blog * PP-ASEL / 1981 C172P & 1982 C172P * Virtual Pilots Association
