MD11 cockpit

Featured Replies

Hello again Avsim!Today I have been trying to make the wait shorter for the 737 NGX -soon to be the best fsx plane developed. So my question for you today is -Are there any visual updates for the MD11 in the cockpit where you have better textures/ or 3D ac nob above your head instead of the 2d one??? those little features matter to me:) I have the latest version of their MD11 but do let me know if there are any updates for this bird... oh and is there any way i could tweak it myself if there are no visual updates for it??? THANKS!Kevin :D

Thanks for reply again tatave:)I am aware and have all MD11 updates from PMDG but i find the 2d things in the cockpit and the transition from the overhead panel to the ceiling of the cockpit quite unsettling. I am a real pilot so it bothers me when things aren't exactly right... maybe i may ask too much of a computer sometimes but hey, its worth a shot. I am pretty sure I am not the only one out there like that too. I know many others who require the advanced realism and in the MD11, it looks hurried ... so please take your time with the NGX PMDG :) im sure it will be the best thing know to the simmer for years... - back to the point, what i should have clarified in my question was "are there any avsim files, or homemade files to fix these problems???"thanks againKevin

2D panels are a compromise of a 3D environment onto a 2D space. The transition from 2D to 3D will always be slightly off, no matter what media, including that of the flight sim world. How does it seem rushed/hurried? It certainly looks a lot better than some of the Cessnas I've flown, and I'm not talking FS Cessnas.

I would upload some photos if my internet wasnt so bad right now... but i am talking only about the VC, how the overhead grey panel goes stright into the cieling of the VC with no screws or anything... then the 2D AC vent above your head... it isnt my best buy... the 747 is clearly better but im sure the 737 will blow us all away, cant wait to start learning about that thing.

Are we really judging add-ons by whether or not the panels have screws on them in the VC now? Spoiled. I remember when engines were essentially diamonds hanging off of what I hesitate to call a wing. Why is it that some go scouting for the most mundane details (see what I did right there?) and ignore the vast complement of features in the aircraft? To be honest, I couldn't tell you where the screws are in the panel of the aircraft I've flown, nor do I care. As long as I have my instruments and radios working I'm all good. Why bother with the other details? When VFR, your gaze should be out the window, and when IFR, your eyes should be on the gauges. Granted, with an autopilot you're free to wander around without maintaining a proper scan, but still. Go read a book or something else productive instead of counting rivets. Some call it immersion. I call it insanity. If you think the true measure of an aircraft's modeling is in those visual details, I'd argue you need to get out of flight sim and go flying in a real aircraft and relish in the fact that you've successfully escaped the grips of being earthbound.

Okay buddy ... obviously you dont understand, i dont expect you to understand and i respect your opinion, maybe you could respect mine? And from looking at your other responses, maybe you should chill out a bit my friend.and also - i do fly in real life, thats part of the reason i want perfection... not too much to ask, and im not asking you for it, so why are you working up a sweat? ill have FS my way, and you have FS your way. I asked a question to the general public and in return i get an essay from you about your opinion on how awful the world is because a few of us like to take FS up a step.... two words for you pal :CALM DOWN

Kyle, everyone is entitled to their opinion, you may think one thing and I another but I don't think it is very constructive adding your response the way you have.

Cpt Gee, no need for that kind of sarcasm and please there is no need for capitalizing and "shouting" here at this forum. Just want to make a kind reminder of the rules that you agreed to not so long ago when you registered. If you have an issue with someone the report button is in the lower left corner of the offending post.Come on fellas, let's try to get along ok?

I understand both of your points, but nowhere in my post did I actually reference the OP's opinion solely. "We" was used collectively to identify all those who most would give the name "rivet counters," OP included or not, and even somewhat as a whole community. Think about it. Some of us have been around since 4-sided fuselages - not 16, not 32. We would've killed for this type of realism back then. While my post was somewhat lacking in understanding, I find these types of posts slightly unappreciative of the work put into these models, despite the screw/rivet shortcomings.I mean, how would you feel, as a developer, having your work cast in a negative light, for reasons none other than the following?

the overhead grey panel goes stright into the cieling of the VC with no screws or anything... then the 2D AC vent above your head... it isnt my best buy... the 747 is clearly better
I could understand it being buggy, or unrealistic in a systems sense, or even grossly off in the visual model, but there's a grey line between that of reasonable expectations and those unreasonable. We're in it....and to be honest, his response is somewhat warranted and understandable from my perspective. It comes with the territory of not being the most diplomatic person around.

This post is kind of funny. Now we're literally complaining about missing screws.I guess it depends on why you use your sim. If you're trying to learn about the plane and what it takes to operate it, then you're like me and you're more concerned about a button not DOING what it's supposed to do. If you're more into the "ooh there's my house" kind of simming, then I guess you'd be more concerned with the button LOOKING like it does in the real plane.I couldn't care less about missing screws. The PMDG panel could be bright green for all I care. As long as I can sit with a few MD11 pilots and keep up with their discussion, I'm happy.PS, I'm a real pilot too, and I have no clue how many screws are on my instrument panel. Maybe I'll have a look tomorrow.Paul

Hi Kevin,I'm not completly sure what you mean. But I have only 3D knobs in the overheadpanel.Ok, I know the VC of the J41 is much better. No doubt you know this, but to be sure:In the upperleft corner of the overheadpanel, you can change the vc in 2D and 3D. Are you are certain it is switched in the " 3D" position? As far as I know, no homemade updates are there. Waiting for the official update, if that will come in the future.Regards,Eric

Hi Eric, thanks for the reply, i figured that button out a few days ago. As far as the better textures, i realized the photo I saw that inspired me to post here was edited, in other words, it was fake. Thanks for all your help guys.Sorry for all the chaos - The reason i look for tiny details like that is to provide myself with the most realistic scenario possible. Of course i dont REALLY care about all the screws:) But more of things just looking like they shouldThanks againKevin

Oh and to clear things up a bit: - I do see where your argument is coming from Scandinavian13, im sure flight sim was a treat when it first came out. But as things developed, so did the planes and now it is astonishing where we have gotten with flightsim today. I dont literally care how many screws are in the overhead panel and i dont know how many are in my aircrafts panel in real life, i dont care. It is just a matter of looking right, when im flying on FS, i like to have it as real as possible so i can feel like im really there and take it all, relax for a bit.... get away from other things. Flight sim is amazing today, is my final point, and i cant wait to see what it looks like 10 years from now too. Sure - i AM spoiled with FS, i spoiled myself and i am guilty :) but its totally worth it. When i retire im upgrading to a sim-pit :)thanksKevin

In my opinion, currently the best PMDG'S product is PMDG MD - 11.I´Have not updated it, because I´Think that the flight will go some way tainted or something. I´Ve heard something about gossip.

Thanks for the clarification

...and the way things have been going for me and flying lately, I'll probably be retiring to one of those as well, for lack of ever having attained one in the airline/cargo realm. I've had my eye on building one for Concorde. A pain to be sure, but I think it'd be worth it.
