April 8, 201115 yr OK I know nothing about Sandy Bridge cause I don't have one so let me ask the owner of the sandy bridge what they think about this one?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115080
April 8, 201115 yr Well, Sandy Bridge is the successor of Nehalem (your chip). Some versions of this CPU´s (i5-2500k and i7-2600k) can be clocked to 4,6 - 5+ GHz.But if you wan´t to change from your current (And very good CPU) this Intel Xenon is far too pricey and it is an Server CPU, so useless for desktop flying. Just get an i5-2500k for arround 225$ or the hyperthreading variant i7-2600k for 315$.I for my part will upgrade for an i5-2500k, it seems to be the best for the money. April 9, 201115 yr The Xeons are binned better. Much better. It wouldn't be "useless" by any means... Just too pricey for your purposes.I also believe it would behoove you to wait for socket 2011 or later. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

I got my 2500k and wasn't sure if it was going to be worth it but boy was I wrong. I got this thing smokin FSX at 5.0 ghz Prime 95ed for 9 hours ZERO problems. April 9, 201115 yr Server processors aren't useless for desktop applications... they're among the most powerful processors out there actually. The only catch is to get the truly great server processors you have to be willing to drop ~$4000.

April 9, 201115 yr I don't think you can OC a server processor, so even for the same money I'd take a 2500K or 2600K

April 10, 201115 yr I mean a Sandy Bridge server processor. They need to be unlocked like the K series are. Intel's got the reins now
April 11, 201115 yr The Xeons are not useless for gaming. Binned leaps and bounds above consumer processors. Remember, server processors are enterprise level products, built much better, made to last much longer. Remember, server processors are enterprise level products, built much better, made to last much longer.Getting a server processor for gaming is retarded anyway you look at it. How much more overclock do you get from such great binned processors anyway? That X5690 needs 1.6V for 5GHz . And built to last much longer in a 24/7 100% usage but not with that overclock for sure. It's not like a regular CPU doesn't last long enough huh? or are you planing on bragging about your 3 generation old server processor in 10 years when it won't even run MS Office? And now with SB you can't overclock them at all, so...
