AffinityMask= 14

Featured Replies

Guys,I understand that "AffinityMask" has to do with how many cores or how cores are used by FSX, correct? After I run Jesu's Tweak, my CFG shows AffinityMask= 14I have an Intel i72600 K and I'm wondering if "14" is the correct number I should be using. Those of you with this CPU...are you also using a "14" or a different number?Johnny

You are using the i7-2600k? Well, then this isn´t the right affinity mask. 14 might be good on an CPU with only 4 cores like mine. I have it running on 14 and in works like a charm. This number says that core#0, #2 and #3 are used for FSX and core #1 is free to do whatever he is used to. But you have 8 cores, so the best is if you turn off hyperthreading (it´s useless for FSX) and use this setting or you bet annother affinity mask number which affects that only the real cores are used.

Best regards, Steffen

14 is the correct setting for any quad core (including the i7)14 is binary 1110.That means if you use this setting, FSX will use cores 1, 2 & 3 leaving core 0 free to run the operating system and other background processes.That is the most effecient setting to use and also makes for a much smoother sim in most cases.It's the setting I use.IAN

Yeah, it´s the right setting for quad but the op has a CPU with hyperthreading so 8 instead of 4 cores. This means that 14 won´t work. I found the setting of 84 here in the forum, so this one you could test (with HT on).

OP still didn't specify if he has HT on or off.On 2600K:If HT on (you are seeing 8 threads in the task manager): 84If HT off (you are seeing 4 threads in the task manager): 14HT is useless for FSX. You can leave it on if you are not overclocking much, turn it off if you are going 4.5Ghz or more, to generate less heat.

Thank you, guys...HT is OFF, so I guess 14 is fine. Thank you all again !

Just to confuse things further, you can also try 12.This limits FSX to two cores only, minimizing thread collisions from sceneryloading threads trying to optimize across two CPUs.I actually find 12 smoother than 14, but either one will work.

Gentlemen;I went from an "AffinityMask" of 14 to an "AffinityMask" of 12. The results were great, and my system is by no means great. Just remember that core "0" is still used by FSX sp2 for a thread regardless of the Affinity Mask.

You're saying I should use 84 on my intel i7 720 QM (yes i have 8 threads)And if HT is useless, why does it matter if you use 14 or 84?

Because you can use 14 only if you turned HT off so that you have only 4 cores instead of 8.
