April 19, 201115 yr Hello all,I am thinking about buying Ultimate Traffic 2 as i have read that FSX default AI traffic impacts your FSX performance. I have the PMDG 747-400 which also has a performance hit on my PC making me have to lower down the levels of AI traffic so i can have a smoother flight. I have read the AVsim review on Ultimate traffic and it says that the AI traffic don't have much of a performance hit than the default FSX AI. Anyone who has Ultimate traffic found that it has improved frame rates and performance? I am going to download the demo on the weekend to see if it improves anything. Here are my PC specs:Windows Vista 32-bitIntel Core2 Quad Q6600 CPU @ 2.40GHz4.00GB RAMNVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 1GB
April 19, 201115 yr You can actually test the impact of the default traffic on your system. Turn all traffic sliders to zero and see if that helps your fps. If it does, the optimized UT2 models may help you a bit, meaning that they don't eat up as much as the default models do.But, be aware, you can go much, much denser with UT2 if you set the sliders there to big values, so this might give you some nicer optics at the big airports (looking busy then) while taking the same hit as the not so dense default traffic.Always watch the car traffic slider in FSX by the way, this guy seems to enable quite some load, so keep it low or even off.
April 19, 201115 yr you may get a small increase in performance from UT2 ( i did ) but the bigger benefit was getting almost all the airlines, paint schemes, correct schedules, and more all in one bunch. Certain things like Northwest Airlines having Delta Paint schemes is not done but you can always get those from the Avsim Library.
April 19, 201115 yr While UT2 is as frame rate friendly as possbile you will get slow downs if you max it out at a very busy airport there is just so much going on and it takes allot of power for cpu memory etc etc but give the demo a shot you can also get the demo for kfll from fsdreamteam and see how your system deals with a payware airport and ut2 traffic. April 19, 201115 yr Thanks i probably won't max out the AI traffic if i get Ultimate traffic anyway. That's cool nbacoventry good luck and hope everything turns out ok :( its a great program, almost forgot one of the most important but awesome things that flight1 offers that no other publisher offers you is a refund within 30 days. http://www.flight1.c...ew.asp?page=tos Cesar Martinez AMD 7800X3D RTX5080 NZXT N7 B650E | G.Skill 32GB DDR5 Samsung 980 Pro 2TB | Crucial MX500 (2×) | Crucial P3 Plus Monitor: Philips Evnia 34M2C6500 QD-OLED
April 20, 201115 yr Do note that UT2 does not ahve any cargo airlines (or at least not for as far as I could see). You will either have to manually impor tthem, or use WoAI packages. April 20, 201115 yr Moderator Where could i find Cargo airlines for Ultimate traffic 2 so i can import them? You could do it three ways.1. Go to world-of-ai.com and download the cargo packages you want, install them, then convert the traffic bgl's to FSX format and your done.2. Or you could install the WOAI cargo packages, remove the traffic bgl they install, decompile the bgls to get the flight plans in txt format, and then use the UT2 Power Pack utility to import them into UT2 so that they are controlled by UT2 rather than running off of a traffic bgl.3. You could download the models, paints, and flight plans from various sources, including Avsim, PAI, etc, then use Power Pack to import. This is probably more time consuming to do it that way.Personally, I just installed the WOAI cargo packs that UT2 was missing, converted the traffic bgl to FSX format, and been using it that way. It only took me a few minutes and works well. Plus the cargo will be parked overnight since they are bgl format.Just make sure when you add cargo you dont add the same ones twice since UT2 does come with some cargo packages, just not all of them. April 21, 201115 yr Personally, I just installed the WOAI cargo packs that UT2 was missing, converted the traffic bgl to FSX format, and been using it that way. It only took me a few minutes and works well. Plus the cargo will be parked overnight since they are bgl format.I wanted to add to Sean's comment about having cargo flights parked at night (or more likely in the day, since they are operating at the wee hours). Ultimate Traffic 2 has a feature (or bug, depending on how your perspective) that basically disables AI from appearing at gates/cargo ramps when they are not flying. This was introduced in a service pack (SP2) to allow higher FPS by having less AI taking up cpu cycles. This is fine premise in itself, but unfortunately it is not an option for the user to decide on as it is hard coded into the software. So what this means is that flights will spawn at the gates only 20 minutes before departure, and this can be very unpleasant to see if you are a fanatic for having healthy amounts of AI at your airports, and it will result in airports having plenty of empty gates when in reality they should be full or near capacity. The solution is to use UT2's "Powerpack" tool to import .bgl flightplans (as mentioned by Sean, from the likes of WOAI, or manually compiled fps from Alpha India or other freeware contributors) to REPLACE the UT2 schedules. For instance, at KPHL I had noticed that there were very few US Airways gate traffic in the evening hours. I imported an Alpha India US Airways schedule via Powerpack, and once that was done, I saw way more traffic at the airport gates. It was showing international traffic that UT2 had disabled because the flights were not due to depart for a few hours, and flights that were parked overnight because it was the end of the day. As a result, I have replaced all the major airlines schedules provided by the default UT2 schedule with Powerpack schedules of those airlines (150 in total!), and I can report that I see realistic levels of gate traffic no matter what time of the day it is. And because they are imported into UT2, they take advantage of all the niceties with the UT2 approach to managing AI traffic, which include flying real routes that track waypoints/navaids, and the ability to improve FPS when in cruise by disabling ground traffic when above a user specified flight level.Importing these kinds of schedules can be time consuming, so my approach was to tackle just the major airlines (flights I would see on real world routes in FSX), and to add cargo traffic using the traditional .bgl process since there are far fewer flights (and I wouldn't mind seeing them flying direct great circle routes since I fly mostly during the day). To return to your original question , using Ultimate Traffic is a win win, because you will have real world airlines flying real world routes, airports, and times, as opposed to the "fantasy" airlines of FSX default AI. And because they use models optimized for FPS (LOD optimization, nice looking models without complex details that eat up frames which you would not notice since you are not flying in formation with them at a few feet) you can fit more traffic into the simulator. April 21, 201115 yr Moderator To clarify on A.J's point on the 20 minute subject. If you are at an airport just AI watching and a plane lands and there are plenty of parking spots, it will remain there until you either run out of spots or its time for it to take off again. However, if you arrive at an airport late at night 12-4am, then it will only spawn a/c that are due to go in 20 minutes but not ones that already landed which would account for less a/c sitting around during those hours. So basically if you load an airport like KDFW at 7pm and just sit there on the ramp, eventually every gate will be full until you run out of spots for arriving a/c to park.
