April 27, 201115 yr I am due for a PC Build. I have stopped simming cause my Core 2 Duo is not able to run my FSX with all my addons. Been waiting to build a new machine.Looking at the i7 2600K. But reading about all these BSODs is not encouraging. So for all those folks who have OCed to atleast 4.5Ghz and don't have these BSODs or other serious problems, could y'all please post your processor/MB/Memory/PSU/Cooler and your OC and Vcore settings? This would help me short list what I need to buy for a new build. Thanks in advance.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

Most of us do not have a BSOD problem with FSX. In the most recent tests, I can run FSX all day at 4.8 GHZ at 1.45V core and never experience the slightest hitch and no surprises when idling. Up to now there has been the very occassional BSOD when idling at 5.0GHz at 1.425Vcore, but not during FSX game play. Admittedly it is a bit of a mystery, and some have a similiar problem worse than the rest of us, but the i5 2500K and i7 2600K tech is solid and a real answer to FSX performance problems. However we are still just sorting things out.Kind regards,

Let me know if you need more.(It also runs okay at 5Ghz HT off but the benefits are not discernable to me) Regards Howard H D Isaacs

April 27, 201115 yr I have no BSOD's when my computer is in use. It only happens when it is sitting idle, either overnight, or like today when I came home from work. Very strange.
April 27, 201115 yr I never had a BSOD on my P8P67 Pro except when not giving the CPU not enough Vcore when overclocking. Not even at idle. Computer already idled for longer periods of time.
April 27, 201115 yr p67a ud5 b3 4.7 1.356. No BSOD in 2-3 months of use with my combined ud4 experience. Works great. My asus p6t del v2 920 do at 3.8 would get freezes and other issues. This platform works well with stability as ram is seperated and no b case clock overclocking. Much better. If it ainlt a a good oc, SB wont boot I have found. Simon

April 28, 201115 yr Author Thanks for all the good feedback guys. I feel slightly better. :)Anyone used the ASUS automatic OC thingi to get it to OC to 4.7 range. The video on the Deluxe motherboard on newegg explains how that is done. That sounds impressive.Well anyway here is my first attempt at a Sandy Bridge PC Build for the sole purpose of running FSX Flight Simming.1) CPU = i7-2600K $3502) Mother Board = ASUS P8P67 DELUXE (REV 3.0) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard $229Thare are just too many Motherboard options out there. Can I do better here? I want OC ability and stability. Not crazy about SLI since FSX may not be able to use it. However, I am looking for a way to hook up 4 monitors (3 for front view and 1 for my touchscreen for undocked fsx panels)..so if that can be done, then SLI it is.. Need lots of HD slots since I have tons of Photosceneries, lots of USB connections. Ability to reset BIOS when OC fails. I like the new ASUS EFIS BIOS. 3) Case Cooler Master full tower HAF 932 ($160)4) Memory = CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 = $1295) PSU = PC Power & Cooling Silencer PPCS910 910W = $1806) Air Cooling = COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 ($35)7) OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD3-2VTX120G 3.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) = $210Thinking getting 1 or 2 OCZ SSDs. IF 1, then I use that for installing FSX only. IF I get the second SSD, I use it for OS. All photo scenery goes to regular 7500 RPM HDs. I have had bad experience with Raid 0 and even more bad experience with 10,000 RPM HDs. So I want to avoid those both if possible.Plan to use by old GTX8800 card for now. Unless you guys tell me that I have to have one of the new video cards. I like the new GTX 590 with 3GB. But its $750. So I thought I'll wait for the price to drop on the 3GB video cards. How does that look. Please critique it for me and give me info on how I can improve on this. Again Thankx for all your helpManny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

Great choices, Manny - except for the 8800.... The 480 is still a hot card, but what's the cost of the 580 over there? How does the price compare? You'll not lose a lot with the 480 - there's lots in use, and the 580 is every bit as good as the 590. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
