FSX load time question

Featured Replies

Hi All, I have recently purchased and installed Orbix PNW and MyTraffic. I am now experiencing a significantly longer load time than before and I expect it is due to the amt of data that must be loaded into the system prior to taking off. I don't have a lot of other stuff loading up other than those two programs. I timed my load-up time and it ranges from 50 seconds to 1.5 minutes. I got to wondering about those of you who have much more sophisticated A/C addons and probably much more scenery files. What kind of load-up times are you experiencing and what are you loading when you double-click on the FSX shortcut? No complaints here, just some curiosity.John

Yes, your results are typical and nothing to worry about. When I first installed FSX with no addons (scenery, AI traffic, etc.), FSX would load and I could be in a flight in about 1 minute after pressing the FSX.exe.Now, with all the stuff in my sig, it takes me about 3 to 4 minutes to get a flight started. Not a problem, but its just not as quick to get started as it used to be.You could buy an SSD and that would probably speed it up a bit.

MyTrafficX causes the longer loading time because of the 100+ aircraft models it has to load, it is quite normal.

Cheers, Andy.

A defrag usually speeds things up a bit, make sure you do those regularly. Normally it takes a while for my FSX to initialise, what I usually do is hit the FSX shortcut and make a cup of tea, by the time I get back it is good to go and the actual 'fly now' button loads the flight in a matter of seconds from having got itself sorted in the RAM.It's one of the things I have to put up with when using FSX, but it is rather a minor hassle considering how many aircraft and add-ons I have installed in the thing.Al

Same here as I too have MT X and I figured out it was that plus all the extra Add-ons that causes a long load-up time, and like Al I too make a refreshing Moroccan tea,and when I'm done,I'm at the Fly Now state. And my HDD is regularly defragged.Next objective to speed it up will be the acquisition of an SSD.Meantime.......

FSX is just like windows. The more stuff you install and the longer you've been using FSX the longer everything will be and everything will be clocked up.

Thanks guys!I also enjoy a cup of tea both before and during the flight! I must say however, I am partial to Jasmine. I appreciate the info as it helps me to place myself in the bell curve so to speak. One other thing - - being from South Carolina you know, a spot of bourbon after she is parked on the tarmac mind you, is not unheard of Big%20Grin.gif.John

You do know drinking tea is completely un-American don't you, it's fine for us filthy Limeys, but does Boston mean nothing to you???!!!! :( Al

Jeez Al - here I was - - just trying my best to relate. I was fix'in to "extend my hand in Int'l friendship" so to speak. I'm a little leery of vc10man's Moroccan brew though. I tell ya, coming from my neck of the woods, some of that stuff would drive a starv'in buzzard off a full-blown meatwagon! Now - - if you're interested in some real refinement, a little shine mixed with some coke is really all ya need! Lessen of course you can afford the smooooooth stuff. Big%20Grin.gifYou're right about defraging. It makes a difference, especially after you have moved a bunch of stuff around and/or installed & removed stuff as all of us are prone to do from time to time.TTYLJohn
