June 2, 201115 yr Hi guys, after my upper neighbors succeeded to fry my old computer by pouring water in the power sockets...I got myself an i7 2600K along with 8 GB of 1333MHz Corsair XMS3 on Asus's P8P67 motherboard.I install everything, configure everything like nick said... and I only get 10 more frames per second? What? (compared to an E8400 / 4GB / GTX 280Is this because of my temporary 9800 GX2 bottle necking the 2600K? A EVGA GTX 580 3GB is on the way soon, will that fix this annoyance?Help!
June 2, 201115 yr Dont buy a GTX580 only for FSX, i have the EVGA GTX 580 SC Edition and i have the same frames with my old GTX 285, GTX 260 and 8800GT...I have the Intel Core I7 920 with watercooling system clocked up to 4.5 Ghz with HT on!More Infos here http://www.sysprofile.de/id116991 Regards Dominik St.
June 2, 201115 yr Author Its for gaming too.Besides I really hate the 9800 GX2 with passion, I've only had trouble with that card.Hell I hate it so much i'd only sell it to someone I hate too! :PSeriously though, I've been seeing all those 2600k vids on youtube with splendid performance along with heavy addons..Wow nice rig Dominik, I saw your bench for FSX so I suppose I have to overclock my 2600k?
June 2, 201115 yr Seriously though, I've been seeing all those 2600k vids on youtube with splendid performance along with heavy addons..Yes and with many I7 920, and i have that system and i can say they are push the frames with Sony Vegas or other Programms.Yes you can overclock your 2600K but do it at your own risk ^^, FSX give me more FPS @ 3,9Ghz (5-15FPS).Thanks :)And here can you see my overclock result in 3DMark11 with CPU overclock and GPU @ 920 Mhz Core Clock.http://3dmark.com/3dm11/960096or 3D Mark Vantagehttp://3dmark.com/3dmv/3049274 Regards Dominik St.
June 2, 201115 yr If you're using a 2600K but not overclocked, WHY?! That's what the chip was built for! FSX will shine with a healthy overclock, the difference will be night and day! :( That 9800 is holding you back a little bit. Especially if you use other games, the GTX580 is a great choice. You'll be able to have higher IQ settings in FSX than my 560 can handle comfortably. Though I'd never drop that much money on a graphics card unless it gave markedly better performance in FSX (it won't). ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
June 2, 201115 yr Author I've been thinking that the POS 9800GX2 is holding me back from amplifying eye candy in FSX because the massive autogen/ textures/ wtv are clogging the weak card's bandwidth.. and it only has 512 mb VRAM... and i'm pretty sure FSX only uses GPU 1 of the GX2.. like not like I'd be surprised...And my huge problem is the fear of overclocking, I use the stock intel cooler... what a retard am I, especially knowing that the p8p67 deluxe can auto overclock apparently...
June 2, 201115 yr I experienced the same thing with my 4850 when I went to a 2500K from my E8400. Using the same sliders, I essentially didn't gain anything in regular FSX use. It was a tad depressing, but I thought it might happen so at least it was expected. Then last week one of my friends was nice enough to give me his old 460SE (Which still isn't a great card) and my FPS more than doubled from where they were with the 4850. I suspect you'll see a huge jump with the 580.

Join the overclocking scene, as it is extremely useful in the flight sim world and reaps huge benefits at the cost of free (if you do it correctly). We all start somewhere!Once you get a stable overclock and see the benefits it brings in FS9/FSX, you'll kick yourself for not doing it earlier!I experienced the same thing with my 4850 when I went to a 2500K from my E8400. Should handle FSX nicely. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

June 2, 201115 yr About OCing make sure you get one a good cpu cooler before you do that i got myself the Corsair A70 and i was able to overclock my I7 860 to 4.1 ghz with temps around 60C at full load Johan Ketting MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon Intel Core i7-7700K 16GB @2400mhz 128gb SSD 2TB HDD
June 2, 201115 yr Author Apparently, according to this site: http://www.anandtech...3-2100-tested/3I can overclock my 2600k up to 4.4 GHz.Should I try?(with the stock, low profile cooler)

They don't cost that much and make a huge difference. Kenneth Weir My Saitek yoke mod i7 2600k @ 4.7 8GB Gskill CAS7 2x GTX580 SLI Surround + GT520 Accessory Win7x64
June 2, 201115 yr That's definitely not that bad a card. Should handle FSX nicely.Yeah, it's not terrible or anything, but after doing some testing with it I can tell it's still holding my 2500K back quite a bit.Well that's giving me hope.. :)Ha, you're sounding like me a few months ago. You'll get there, just wait until you get that 580 and you'll go "Oh, so I can get this FPS." Or at least that's about what I did with the 460SE, and the 580 should blow that out o the water. As for OC'ing, I wouldn't try it with the stock cooler, but that's just me. Go out and get a nice cooler, your computer will be happy, and you'll be able to rest easy knowing you don't have to worry about temps. :(
June 2, 201115 yr Should I try?Of course. Just take small steps and watch the temperatures. Don't go straight to 4.4GHz.This is a good guide: http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/overclocking/39184-p67-sandy-bridge-overclocking-guide-beginners.html Tom Risager NGX tutorial: http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?Location=AVSIM&Proto=ftp&DLID=162360 SIDs & STARs Worked Examples: LOWI-UUDD, KSEA-KLAX, EKCH-ENGM, YSCB-YPAD
