Yes and with many I7 920, and i have that system and i can say they are push the frames with Sony Vegas or other Programms.Yes you can overclock your 2600K but do it at your own risk ^^, FSX give me more FPS @ 3,9Ghz (5-15FPS).Thanks :)And here can you see my overclock result in 3DMark11 with CPU overclock and GPU @ 920 Mhz Core Clock.http://3dmark.com/3dm11/960096or 3D Mark Vantagehttp://3dmark.com/3dmv/3049274

Auto overclocked to 4.4 GHZabout 5 fps increase.. temps.. 60-70... reloaded optimized defaultseh :)Wow... I just realized that the 2600k automatically overclocks itself to 3.8GHZ while under load. I like that Turbo feature. :)The auto overclock seems to change the turbo clock speed... aha... I see..Laugh at me but I panicked a little when i saw 3.8 GHZ after loading the optimized defaults...Man my head hurts... LOL.gif

Hey dude I'm convinced that 9800GX2 is causing your horrible performance. If only 512mb is split between 2 GPU's and we all know FSX can only use 1. That's like 256mb for FSX. Then the fact SLI can actually give a little FPS drop. Yeah that 580 should be the key to pandoras box. Get a good cooler. And get that 2600K up to high 4's. Research though how to go about that overclock because not sure auto settings will cut it.

The 9800 GX2 has 1GB of VRAM or am I missing something?

Hi guys, after my upper neighbors succeeded to fry my old computer by pouring water in the power sockets...I got myself an i7 2600K along with 8 GB of 1333MHz Corsair XMS3 on Asus's P8P67 motherboard.I install everything, configure everything like nick said... and I only get 10 more frames per second? What? (compared to an E8400 / 4GB / GTX 280Is this because of my temporary 9800 GX2 bottle necking the 2600K? A EVGA GTX 580 3GB is on the way soon, will that fix this annoyance?Help!
I agree that (a) you should give your cpu an overclock, and (:( that you should upgrade your video card. I also think that you should consider applying *******' tweak, which made a ridiculous improvement in my fps. I went from about 12-15 on approach to high density airports like jfk to 20+. And although I had formerly locked fps at a max of 30, I frequently see 75+ now.regards,Jeff

You can likely go a lot higher than 4.4GHz with the 2600K - most people are getting in the 4.7-5.0 range. Also, you did start over clean with your system right? Ie, you didn't just replace all the hardware and keep using the same windows install from the old system right?

Auto overclocked to 4.4 GHZabout 5 fps increase
That's actually slightly more than I thought you'd get. ha I gained like 2 FPS with my 4850 going from stock to 4.4.Just out of curiosity, have you tried running the FSXMark11 benchmark at all? http://forum.avsim.net/topic/329116-fsxmark11/

Got me a 2500K a couple of days ago, on an Asus P67 mobo as well as a Prolimatech Genesis Cooler. Paired this with my old 285GTX and two 256GB SSD's.I am pretty conservative regarding overclocking, but I brought the 2500K from 3.3 to 4.3Ghz with ease. Couldn't be happier now. The difference between my old system (Q9550 oc'ed to 3.4, but slow RAM and old mobo) and the new one is astonishing. And I am not talking about framerates alone - it's the smoothness that really blows me away.Good cooler is essential, not only for the CPU but for the case as well, but don't be afraid to let the CPU temperature peak at 70-75°C - it's only reached for short amounts of time and - at least on my system - NOT during flying, but during initial loading of the scenery.

Its complicated tabs, at first I installed windows over the old one, thus getting the Windows.old folder... since my pc was shorted... and everything bu the HDD and DVD-RW got zapped it the only way I could save some of my data. I then moved the backups on the wiped sim drive, formatted C and installed windows over it again. populated it with my backups then wiped the sim drive. The 9800GX2 says it has 1024 memory but it has 512 because it's just two crappy 8800 glued together...All in all, after overclocking, the sim was pretty darn smooth. I never saw 45 FPS with EDDF (default scenery tho) with sparse autogen and low 2x water... that was the performance i'd get will all sliders to the left on my old pc.. can't wait to see what the new card will do.Would you guys be kind and recommend me a good cooler for the 2600k? also so paste too since I suppose i'll have to clean it off when I swap coolers. Not looking for taipei 101 sized towers, but something fairly efficient that fits on a P8P67 Deluxe inside an Antec 900 case... and some wiring above it... damn cable management..:D

What's your budget?
2500 new romanian lei...2200 are for the 580.. the remaining 2 hundred.. which are like 50 euro should go for a cooler and some replacement case fans, they're running old and click like no tomorrow.I was thinking of the Arctic Freezer Pro 7.. everyone always recommends this one.Oh and no liquid cooling please, I's like to stay on air. :(

Dont buy a GTX580 only for FSX, i have the EVGA GTX 580 SC Edition and i have the same frames with my old GTX 285, GTX 260 and 8800GT...I have the Intel Core I7 920 with watercooling system clocked up to 4.5 Ghz with HT on!More Infos here http://www.sysprofile.de/id116991
There is a huge bottleneck in your system if you think a 580 is not a jump in performance. You can fit 10K wheels to an old car, does not mean it will go faster.

im not happy with the cooler that came with my PC, it looks like a Corsair water cooler but its unbranded. Its struggles to hold sub 60c (80c is max) at just 3.4ghz on my 950. Should I just get a good air cooler and be done with it?
