June 3, 201115 yr Air coolers need a good airflow in the case - if this is the case, you will be happy with a good one. I was recommended the Prolimatech Genesis Cooler, does a great job even in my sub-par case. Needs a 120mm fan on the heat dispenser (at last on one of them) and one that blows the air out of the case.FSX runs at app. 62°C at 4.3Ghz here, with few spikes over 70°C. Computer idles at 37°C (pretty warm room).
June 3, 201115 yr Author Be careful with auto overclocking - the core voltage may go higher than you would like.Had an eye on that, voltages didn't exceed 1.1v. That should be ok, since I've read that whatever you do on a SB.. don't go over 1.5. Not sure though. The 4.4 OC is very stable but it runs a bit too high for comfort at the 83C mark.I have an Antec 900 case and a P8P67 Deluxe Rev3 mobo, and i'm looking for a cooler that's pretty low profile because of my cable running over. Lets see darem's suggestion..

Lets see darem's suggestion..4.4GHz and 1.1V is absolutely impossible. You probably had power saving modes enabled and if that's the case, 83ºC is a lot. The max Vcore I would recommend is 1.37 - 1.38. Some are ok with 1.4, but 1.5... no way! :biggrin:It's under full load that you need to check your Vcore and temps, and don't stress test after autotuning with the stock cooler!Don't use the auto overclock as it tends to overvolt and it's calling for trouble. It's very easy to overclock, and more so with SB. If you need help I'll be glad to assist you there. just drop me a pm.For fans, I would get the Scythe Gentle Typhoons (1150 or 1450 rpm depending on how picky with noise you are), and for a CPU cooler, a Scythe Mugen 2 rev B, a Cooler Master Hyper 212 plus. The Mugen is better but a bit more expensive. Both will get you easy to 4.5GHz, maybe more
June 3, 201115 yr Would you guys be kind and recommend me a good cooler for the 2600k?:DI am not fortunate yet to have one of the new generation CPUs but i have a i7-950 which tend's to run pretty hot and i am using the Noctua NH-D14 and it does a great job. I don't know how much room is in a Antec 900 Case, but if it won't fit there is also the NH-C14 which i think is not so high and is very close to the NH-D14 performance. Rick Hobbs
June 3, 201115 yr There is a huge bottleneck in your system if you think a 580 is not a jump in performance. You can fit 10K wheels to an old car, does not mean it will go faster.I talk only from FSX and the FSX need more CPU Power not GPU ;) Regards Dominik St.
June 3, 201115 yr Hi guys, after my upper neighbors succeeded to fry my old computer by pouring water in the power sockets...I got myself an i7 2600K along with 8 GB of 1333MHz Corsair XMS3 on Asus's P8P67 motherboard.I install everything, configure everything like nick said... and I only get 10 more frames per second? What? (compared to an E8400 / 4GB / GTX 280Is this because of my temporary 9800 GX2 bottle necking the 2600K? A EVGA GTX 580 3GB is on the way soon, will that fix this annoyance?Help!I'm running the same setup on a P8P67 LE board. There are some limitations with this board but I'm at 4.6mhz right now and stable. If you want to get to 5.0mhz, you need to buy the P8P67 Pro. Temps are 40 at idle and 60-65 under full load. I'm also using an ECO A.L.C. coolit water cooler with an extra fan which in my opinion, is the best one going right now. Unfortunatly, they were bought out by Corsair so if you want one of these coolers, grab one now. My video card is a GTX 285Also, if you use IC Diamond thermal paste, you can bring your temps down even more. I just bought some but haven't tried it yet. Good Luck. Regards, Ron Gautreau CYYZ
