July 26, 201114 yr Everytime I fly on the west coast of OR and WA the weather is crap! IFR, MVFR ugh!And I thought Duluth was bad in the spring/summer - fog all the time... WA state is nasty! July 26, 201114 yr Yep.. Duluth does suck but I miss it.. I used to live there up until April of last year.. Currently living near Albuquerque, NM.. Absolutely beautiful weather but seeing sand all the time sucks.-Damien Damien Furtman Hovering Hellion
July 26, 201114 yr Commercial Member You think YOU feel like ranting, try living here. ;-)Honestly though, the weather hasn't been that bad lately, and this coming week it's looking pretty nice. Try again soon, and maybe you'll find bluer skies. July 26, 201114 yr Commercial Member I truly understand your complaint Ryan, but Washington and Oregon have it easy, especially this year. They do actually get some sun from time to time. The greater Vancouver area and Vancouver Island trump them both when it comes to endless low overcast and rain. Yay us! ;)The really scary bit happens when a nice day finally does arrive here though. Absolutely *everyone* with any kind of pilots license or student permit immediately takes to the sky. Trying to go anywhere on a sunny day is like flying through a running blender filled with aluminum shrapnel. This past Sunday was the first truly nice day of the year here in Vancouver, 25 deg C and perfect blue skies, so I rented a plane and took my mom to Chilliwack for lunch. Not the best idea! I ended up having to dodge about fifteen Cessnas and Pipers over a distance of only 28 miles. Departing Chilliwack I had to ask two pilots to extend their downwinds just so I could get a twenty second window to takeoff and get home, and then ended up in a holding pattern for 10 mins once I got there. The circuit was jam packed. Insane. I flew for awhile in the Bay Area many years ago and I thought their traffic was bad. Uhhh no.Bring back the clouds! :)-Mike Mike Johnson - Lotus Simulations

How do pilots' get their licenses lol?*Rant done* Tell me about it! I live in Vancouver and this summer is one of the worst I've seen. Thankfully, I'm in sunny Palo Alto, CA for the week. :-) The summer I did my PPL it was beautiful for the 2 months of the program! The one plus to this crap is you can do IFR training in lots of actual instead of under the hood. (Can't imagine doing IFR training in FL or AZ haha)
July 27, 201114 yr Author Hehe I went to school in North Dakota, at UND,for my PPL ASEL, and the weather was alright but certainly not sunny skies like ERAU in Prescott or DAB... many a days I was "weathered" even for VFR flying.@ Mike - wow that's nuts... though good weather does sometimes bring out the weekend warriors (danger lol!), it's still nice to fly in the sunshine. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
July 28, 201114 yr Author Well I stand corrected, departing Ocean Shores, WA this morning yielded a nice clear sky... | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
July 29, 201114 yr I've lived here for four years now, it's frustrating, but the nice days are real nice...Perfect in fact. VRTodd ATP MEL Commercial SEL B-747, BE-300, BE-400, DHC8, ERJ 170/190, MU-300 C-17A Globemaster III
July 29, 201114 yr Well it can't be worse than Sweden.. That's why I rarely fly with real weather in FSX. It's all make-believe, so if I'm going to pretend I'm a pilot, I might as well pretend its sunny too. Same with the time settings, if I wanted 100% realism I would have to play the sim at 2am in order to fly in the afternoon in WA... -

The weather was actually not that bad, I cant say that for years past. We were brave and tented. In the state park we camped in 90% of the campers were either in tent trailers RV's or fifth wheels. The only way to go if you are going to try to camp int he Northwest! Mike Keigley
July 30, 201114 yr Aaaah the Dakotas! I spent four years in Fargo at NDSU during the middle sixties, Ryan. Talk about flat? We had to hunt for trees! We did our cross-countries following the roads and counting the turns in them! Only place I ever spent any time in where the sun could be shining, big blue calm sky, bright & shiney - and cold enough to burn your lungs! Great memories though! John
