December 26, 200322 yr Over the past few years, I have often wondered why we have never had a really good implementation of a Mooney -- or at least I have never been able to find one for Fs2002/4. It just seems to me that anybody who flies or aspires to fly single engine aircraft would love to get their hands on a Mooney (in real life) -- or am I wrong? We seem to have innumerable implementations of Cessnas ,Pipers, Beech models 101,201,301,401 etc, etc -- but no Mooneys.I am just curious why this aircraft never seems to capture the imagination of the Fsim a/c developers.Any thoughts? Thanks Barry
December 26, 200322 yr >Any thoughts?>>Thanks >Maybe because Mooney has been seen as a dying brand name. Just recently they have come out from bankrupcy and their future is still shaky. However looks like they are doing ok at the moment. They slashed their prices by 20% and count on selling 400 aircraft in 2004. I do hope they make it. The company is in new hands.Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
December 26, 200322 yr Hi Michal!>>>Maybe because Mooney has been seen as a dying brand name. Just recently they have come out from bankrupcy and their future is still shaky. However looks like they are doing ok at the moment. They slashed their prices by 20% and count on selling 400 aircraft in 2004. I do hope they make it. The company is in new hands.lol What does this have to do with perhaps some developers creating a nice FS2004 model of the Mooney? Even if the company were to go bankrupt and disappear, there are still plenty of Mooneys flying around to warrant creating it for our enjoyment.I sure hope this is not the basis developers stand behind when deciding what aircraft to make.Just my 2 cents... ;)regards,Efrain Ruiz, APR1AirPUERTORICO Virtual Airlineswww.airpr.net
December 26, 200322 yr >What does this have to do with perhaps some developers>creating a nice FS2004 model of the Mooney?Indeed - doesn't make sense :-hmmm I can think of many other aircraft that are no longer made for lots of reasons.David
December 26, 200322 yr But it's not really en vogue, is it? Other planes like the Cessna 152 have been (and still are) flown by so many real world student pilots that it makes sense to create a good version for FS.But the most important fact for the lack of any good Mooney is obviously the inclusion of the Mooney Bravo as a default plane. The same reaseon why there is no complete payware quality Cessna 172 or 182 package on the market. It's a different thing with the default jets, but the GA planes in FS9 are really not bad, honestly I rather like them although I have about any GA addon available.Just yesterday I installed a new repaint package (clclmooney.zip) for the Mooney, and it makes a big difference in outer appearance. The exterior default textures are just plain bad, but with these crips textures and the (new in FS9 AFAIK) virtual cockpit, this plane is a pleasure to fly!Just my 2c (EUR),VOlker :]
December 26, 200322 yr I used to fly the default Mooney alot; but then I bought the C115TC from FSD and I haven't flown the Mooney since.
December 27, 200322 yr Hi Barry,I picked up a nice little Mooney Eagle 2 yesterday, it has a VC and custom 2D panel, looks quite nice, BUT, theres always a but, it does not have a external textures, now if I could get the guy who made it to do some blank textures for it, I would gladly do a paint.Try it out www.fsteam.dk , also check out the other funny little singles they have too ;)Dan.
December 27, 200322 yr I've been flying the default Mooney alot, even though I own several payware aircraft. I've never flown a real Mooney Bravo before, but from what I've heard of Mooney's it flies alot like I'd expect one to. Very sensitive on the controls because it uses push rods instead of control cables, so there's no slack in the controls. The external model is very nice, and the panel is decent. Perhaps a talented group will do a makeover panel and airfile for it.
December 27, 200322 yr Mooney don't exactly have a high profile over here. After working at an airfield for a year and a half, I've only seen a couple, and this is an extremely busy GA operation for the UK. I think both were on transatlantic ferry flights too...From what I can tell from the guys there they are neutral to Mooneys, regarding them as a bit of a curiousity. But there are also many jokes made at the expense of it's one-time dealings with Porsche and it's financial raggedness. As always, it's nice to see companies survive in the aviation industry, but compared with many more modern designs out there, Mooney don't shape up too well with their model range...
December 27, 200322 yr Author I don't find the Mooney terribly interesting in the sim. I'd rather fly something like the C172 (low and slow, better visibility). If I want to go a bit faster, there are many other singles and twins that do the job without annoying TC's, low ground clearance and airbrakes. :) -
January 3, 200422 yr Man, I was over at one of our local airfields today (McCollum Airport) outside Atlanta. And there were a LOAD of Mooneys there. Saw a beautiful all black one with gold trim. Wicked looking.Eric AND
January 3, 200422 yr Good point Barry! I love to fly the Mooney Bravo because it is not too slow or too fast. The C172 and C182S are most of the time too slow for me; the learjet is too fast (and complicated) for me. The twin-engines are also too complicated. The Mooneys, well, they're just right! And they are one of the fastest single-prop planes available.I think the default Mooney in FS9 is great; but surely, some talented aircraft developer out there can create a more interesting (and up the realism level of the) Mooney. Why, if the model is as good as the FSD or RealAirSim aircrafts, I'd be willing to pay for it. What do you all think?David
January 3, 200422 yr The Mooney Bravo has been my favorite FS plane since it first appeared in FS2k...I have loved it ever since then, and was especially happy when they gave it a much overdue facelift!
January 3, 200422 yr I just got FS2004 for Christmas and since then I've flown the Mooney more than any other plane in the sim. Even downloaded some different textures for it. After the Mooney, the Beech Baron has gotten most of my attention.
