August 7, 201114 yr After flying this bird for some time now, I am amazed by how incredible it is; the complexity is on a whole new level for any FS addon and will (by now it has) set a whole new standard for FSX addons. But I am curious if I am not doing something correctly relating to performance. I followed the introduction manual to pretty much no avail in terms of a performance boost and I am shocked at how poorly the airplane runs considering my system isn't THAT bad.My specs are: Dell Inspiron 537; Intel 2 Core Duo @ 2.93; 4GB RAM; ATI Radeon HD 4350; Windows 7 64 bit In the VC I get anywhere from 10-20 fewer frames with her than with other aircraft such as LD767 or others... Now I know that the NGX is about 10x more complex in terms of the VC than the LD767 or QW757, but I imagined that it would run a heck of a lot better than the way it is now considering I heard that the MD11 runs better than the 767 and the NGX would probably be comparable to the MD11. I am not upset at anyone in any way, I am just curious if anyone has any suggestions because it is tough to be in a non addon airport (like KRNT without the PNW package) and be getting 8-15 fps and try to enjoy myself (let alone fly) with this masterpiece Thanks for your help. Best regards Best regards, happy flying, Wallace
August 7, 201114 yr Hi Wallace, there are some options you can select for the VC that boosts your frames, one would be to disable FO displays, that really helps.
August 7, 201114 yr Author Jamalje,Thank you for your reply. In the FMC? Will try that. You say in your sig that you are ashamed of your specs, at this point I am kind of ashamed of mine as well, how does it run on yours? Best regards, happy flying, Wallace
August 7, 201114 yr One thing you can try is deleting your fsx.cfg and booting up your fsx to create a new one. Then go to this tool http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html to get it tweaked again. Also you can try updating your GPU drivers.
August 7, 201114 yr Author I somewhat recently used *******'s tool and it didn't really do that much but I can try it again - by updating I assume you mean get a new one (Graphics card)? I would but at this point my next hardware upgrade I am just going to buy a new system - just have to save to do it! Best regards, happy flying, Wallace
August 7, 201114 yr I used to always have the fastest graphics card I could buy which hardley made any difference as it was never stressed no matter what I did. The day I changed my dual core E8600 for a Sandybridge I7 2600k my framerates more than tripled. In a default plane I have seen over 300FPS at altitude. I see from 45 to 80 fps now depending on where i load and fly NGX. I am sure with the E8600 i would see between 10 and 20 fps.My card has never showed more than 60% usage through the MSI afterburner utility.FSX is mainly CPU intensive.
August 7, 201114 yr Author Forgive my ignorance but does that mean that I would just download an update from Radeon or something like that? I am good computer person when it comes to FSX and its folder, other than that... its ugly. Shannon, you make me jealous! I understand what you mean though, I just don't think I have the time (maybe the money) to customize my own system - although it is what I want to do so much. If I could run this airplane at those frames (45-80), I don't think I would ever go outside! If you don't mind me asking, how much did your system cost? Best regards, happy flying, Wallace
August 7, 201114 yr Im sorry that you cant do it yet but you dont have to go that far. Intels I7 2500k is just as good as well as many other options, and if you search "Toms hardware " you will get a lot of info and prices for upgrades that will suit anyones pocket when u can. Once you have the info at hand you will find the hardware from different suppliers etc at good prices. I upgraded the motherboard ,CPU and ram for around 900 dollars. A quick fix might be the latest drivers from ATI as well as searching the forum and manuals for the recomended display settings for NGX which differ from the 767 from level D. I am also sure that an update or patch is on the horizon from PMDG which might also address the frame rate intensity. Good luck
August 7, 201114 yr I'm on a low end system and I take a big hit in the VC mainly when sitting at the gate and slightly less so during taxi and take off. It's fine at altitude, just a little while ago, I pulled the texture resolution tab back to about 50% in the FSX scenery section and got an increase in performance at the gate. Its made far more difference than disabling first officer displays. I haven't been able to tell much of a difference when they are off, and it's very distracting to me for the right side to be dark. August 7, 201114 yr I'm flying over JFK with rainy weather and I'm getiing 8-11 FPS come on PMDG this is not we all hoped for, and yes I delete it my CFG file and it didn't help. now I'm at i7 930 4.2 with 480 GTX OC and 12 gigs of memory, with tweaked CFG so I want to hear a word from PMDG, if this is how this airplane going to be I will go ahead and unstall it and move on. PMDG stated that preformance is close to the deafult 737 but this is far away from truth.

But for the moment, I hope I can get a driver update and maybe something that will help my poor Dell out a little bit. But it might come to that - I appreciate your response. Regards Best regards, happy flying, Wallace
August 7, 201114 yr I have old system with E8500 not overclocked, ATI4870 and 4GB RAM, and only thing I have to avoid is complex addon sceneries airports a la EDDF etc...My NGX runs most of the time with fps at 20 (locked at 20 by external limiter).******* tweaks didn't help me, so I just made rebuild FSX.CFG made some modification according PMDG manual, chapter performance, and I'm very very happy how it runs. I will buy new pc next year, but until now I can enjoy my NGX,btw I use water 1x high,ASE and UT and REX textures. August 7, 201114 yr yes, we can't fly this airplane with high end system, it's so frustrating. Lowering settings didn't help as well. I see people reporting 40-50 FPS I just don't know how. The only thing I can think of is the NGX code work better with certain hardware, and yes we need to hear something from PMDG.
