August 8, 201114 yr Hi All :)Im thinking of upgrading my PC in the coming weeks to make it more up to date with FSX and improve fps and get rid of the annoying 'Out Of Memory' error haha. Just wondering what you guys think to the build below:- Windows 7 64bit- Intel i7 2600K processor (3.4ghz)- Ram 8gb Corsair DDR3 (1600mhz)- Asus P8P67 Pro Intel P67 (Socket 1155) Motherboard- Graphics Card = MSI GeForce GTX 560TI Twin FrozR II (Shader Clock 1644Mhz, 1024MB memory) - Hard drive = Western Digital Caviar Green Power 1TB, 64MB Cache, 6GB/s OEMI have to confess im not particularly computer savvy, but luckily i have a friend who is who has been able to help me.Like i said my aim is to be able to run better addons than i can at the moment. I havent purchased the 737NGX yet as my system wouldnt be able to handle it. However im hoping the build i have mentioned above would be able to run it smoothly? Currently the best i can do scenery wise is UK2000 at EGKK. It would be nice if i could smoothly run some better airport scenery as the pictures look amazing! But obviously smooth addons planes is another must with a new build.Hope ive provided enough informationCheers,Shane Shane Reeves
August 8, 201114 yr Ok so I would get the i5 2500k over the i7 2600k not really much difference that will affect the FPS in FSX, the only difference been a $100 gap I guess. Unless you want to save I would then upgrade to a GTX 570. For the motherboard the P67 is now out of date and you are better off going with a Z68. I have a Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3P but I think the P8Z68-V Pro would also be a good choice and possibly the GA-Z68X-UD4. As for the RAM you are probably wasting your money on you ram and should get 4GB as 8GB won't really help in FSX. If you want to be overclocking your CPU you want to get some good cooling like the corsair Hxx series or the Antec Kuhler range. For overclocking you also want a high rated power supply, >bronze rated. I have a silver rated HX750 and I think its great with its modular design. For the HDD unless you are really worried about power consumption get the caviar blue or with the Z68 motherboard you could get an SSD and have smart response technology to speed up your whole system. August 8, 201114 yr wow...totally uncalled for. I reccomend getting as much RAM as possible. The increased ram doesnt help performance but it will get rid of OOM errors. Why is it uncalled for? The thread title tells me nothing. The point of a thread title is to introduce the topic. This thread could have been asking for forum member's thoughts on just about anything. Also a vague thread title draws attention because people have to open it to find out the subject. That's fine if you're interested in the topic, but if you aren't it's very annoying. On the other hand I can't ignore a vague thread title in case I miss something of interest to me. "Your thoughts on my PC upgrade" would have said it all. Kevin Hall

August 8, 201114 yr How long did it take to click the thread and see hardware listed? 2 seconds? Maybe?Troll somewhere else.See my reply above. It's not th etime involved it's the annoyance it creates. If all threads had titles like this the forum would have no structure at all. I usually ignore the hardware update threads because I'm simply not interested in other people's PC specs. If the topic was clear I wouldn't have opened this one at all. Commenting on my frustration here is not "trolling". Kevin Hall

August 8, 201114 yr I reccomend getting as much RAM as possible. The increased ram doesnt help performance but it will get rid of OOM errors. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on this. Right now, I have 2GB of RAM and I'm trying to decide if to go to 4GB or really make the leap to 8GB. My research sort of indicates 8GB may be a lot of overkill as it will only help me to improve performance to a point. Kirk Mayers

My research sort of indicates 8GB may be a lot of overkill as it will only help me to improve performance to a point. The performance increase wont be worth buying the extra RAM. However, it will eliminate the OOM errors which plague some people horribly. Purchasing more RAM for FSX shouldn't be based on "How much more FPS can I get?" It should be based on whether or not It will eliminate all and any OOM errors. I use to get OOM errors with 4GB or RAM. I upgraded to some really slow 9GB RAM ( Purchased this when I was naive about actual speeds of RAM lol haha). Since my upgrade, I have never had an OOM error again. August 8, 201114 yr Author Hello, Thanks to everyone who has posted. Especially Andrew, like i said im not computer savvy enough to do all this alone so i apologise if i sound thick occasionally.... I have had several people say the i5 2500k at 3.3ghz would be just as good as the i7 and would save me approx 100 quid so i think thats definately something i will look into. The original build i posted, certain components came as a barebundles set but i think ill take the route of buying each component seperately. It would seem this way i can tailor the system better. Ill put my critic at bay by apologising for the 'vague' title. I dont often post on forums but i hoped i would get some friendly assistance this time, which all but one i did :) So thanks again! August 8, 201114 yr dont worry too much about "OUT OF MEMORY" im sure its not supposed to be like that, lol i had it on my system with 6gig of kinston ram and 64bit windows. August 10, 201114 yr Author Hi again,Ive updated my proposed build based on comments from friends and on here. I was thinking something along the lines of:Windows 7 64 bit2nd Generation Intel Core i5 processor @ 3.3ghz socket 1155Gigabye GA-Z68A-D3-B3 Intel Z68 Socket 1155 MotherboardMSI GeForce GTX 560Ti Twin FrozR II 1024mb GDDR5 Graphics CardCorsair Vengeance 8GB Ram 2x4GB DDR3 1600Mhz Dual Channel KitWestern Digital Caviar Green Power 1tb 64MB Cache Hard Disk 6gb/s OEMJust wondering what peoples thoughts are on that? Obviously i reckon i will need a fairly decent power supply right? Any suggestions? So far the above comes to £520. Ideally im looking to spend within the region of £600. I already have a monitor. Thanks,Shane Shane Reeves
August 10, 201114 yr Looks good. As for powersupply, you can't go wrong with corsair...xfx or antec. Personally i have a XFX Pro 750W and im very pleased with it.
