Landing lights

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, I would like to make sure that my landing lights (see attached 737x.jpg) are what they should be. They are a little bit of cartoon style while 747x lights are more solid (747x.jpg).IS this normal? RegardsCZarek

What? I think the one on the left is nasty looking (default old school effects)... the lights (in your pic), on the left are far more realistic. They actually illuminate objects like signs, buildings etc. Yes, it's normal. The style of lights were basically pioneered by Mike from Lotussim...example:http://www.lotussim.com/features-general-landinglights.html

Ryanthx for reply. Looking at this picture in full resolution (click on it) one can perceive it of cartoon style. But the most important it is ok...Czarek

There is nothing at all in the NGX lighting I'd characterize as "cartoon style" - sorry, no idea what you're talking about. The 747 lights look very fake to me, they're just the default FSX lights - real landing lights don't make a solid triangle on the ground like that. The NGX ones are matched based on photos out of the real thing.

Im with everyone else here, the NGX Lights are awesome, the 747x are horrible in comparison.

Ok Guys, I'm talking about runway surface texture illuminated by LL rather then their shape (which is perfect) :) czarek

Wow. I'd call the one on the left beautiful and the one on the right ugly in comparison. You ever peered through the windscreen down the length of a runway with landing lights on? The one on the left mimics real life. It actually illuminates the markers and runway, instead of painting a stupid looking white "texture" of top of it. So considering what you said...

Yeah. And it's wonderful. Lol. I honestly can not believe some of the complaints in here.dry.png (No offense)

Well you'll get a little discoloration from this new style of lights... I don't know the technical reason.... but the issue is more pronounced if you taxi on the grass - you'll see what I mean.

There isn't complaint, just subjective observation. :)

Ryan, accurate naming - discoloration. I can see it in many night pictures showed in the forum. It's especially visible on the run. czarek

Zach, so I see you don't need much to be happy, LOL. But seriously please let's not make a club of mutual adoration. One can have a higher reqs than other, so let's express our views freely. BTW. NGX is very nice aircraft :) Czarek

Got o youtube and check out some vidoes of real aircraft taxing, takeoffs, landings at night from a cockpit view. You will see the NGX landing lights look much more like the real thing.Steven Herzberg

the landing lights on the NGX are the best ive ever seen in a Flight Sim. Just watch some night landing vids on youtube and you will get a good idea. The real lights actualy light the object up where as the old style landing lights just wash out all the details. Its a bit like overexposing camera film. NGX lights are spot on.
