Changing sound levels does not change actual sound levels

Featured Replies

I have searched and did not find an answer, although several people have mentioned it. When I change the sound levels in the simulation through the CDU, it does not seem to have any effect on the actual sound levels during the simulation. Any suggestions? David Bowles

The sounds that are the loudest and most prominent tend to be going through the default FSX sound system, so you will need to adjust the FSX sound sliders to notice any difference in those.

Cheers, Andy.

Hi David, Engine and Wind sounds are generated through the FSX sound system and pretty much everything else is generated through the PMDG sound system. Please can you provide a more detailed explanation as to what you are having an issue with. Thanks,

The sounds which get louder with distance are FSX sounds only, which means predominantly engine sounds - that includes the NGX engines - but since the PMDG custom sounds are generated outside of FSX there is no way to control their behaviour in FSX. Other sound sets probably only have FSX sounds (ie engines) - we have around 400 sounds which operate outside FSX - so for any addon aircaft which uses custom sounds you will have this FSX "limitation".

Armen - thanks for the reply. It may be that the sounds I am trying to adjust are not mapped to the sliders I am adjusting. I will go back and take all the sounds to zero, and figure out what sounds are controlled by which sliders. I will report back one way or the other. David Bowles

Indeed David, Just tell me what sounds you are looking for and I can tell you the channel!

Sorry to butt in here but is there a way to lower the wind sound please,Thankyou

Chris Howard

Hi Chris 1) First make sure that your CURRENT values are like the ones shown in the screenshot - if they are not then first try using these values because these are the settings we recommend for optimal sound experience. 2) If your settings are already the same as the screenshot and you still think the wind is too loud then you can reduce it be lowering the "ENVIRONMENT" slider as shown in the screenshot. 3) Also sometimes the engine noise gets messed up in FSX so they can become quiet compared to the wind - try pressing "Q" twice to reset the FSX sounds when you change views to avoid this problem.

Thankyou very much for your help Armen, i wll lower the environment slider and the sounds by the way in this aircraft are awesome, the most realistic i've ever heard, love the bass rumble when you pull back the thrust through 60%, awesome mate well done!

Chris, I was having the same issue with all the FSX slider sounds set to 50%. I could barely hear anything inside the cockpit aside from the engines and wind and I could barely hear ATC speaking. For me lowering the Engine sound slider to 25% fixed it perfectly for me.Sea Campbell

I had that too but lowering the Engine slider to 25% fixed it for me and I left the ATC slider at 50%.

Armen, i just want to be sure I understand your advice--> if high wind noise is the issue then you stated that rolling back the 'environment' slider will fix that. But I have a follow up question: Since the total sound package--as stated above and elsewhere in the fourm--is absolutely outstanding, will backing off the 'enviroment' slider degrade any of the other fabulous NGX sounds? I use RadarContact 4.3 and its volume is max'ed out in FSX and the wind noise just makes it impossible to hear the calls but I don't want to unbalance the NGX sound experieince if I can avoid it. Thanks in advance and for a great sound package!! Joe
