December 30, 200322 yr Hey all,What do you think of the default Lear and King Air? I only fly the ultra realistic, pilot endorsed planes (RealAir's Cessna 150 and Trev Morrison's .air file for the DC3). While I find these as close to reality as possible and a great challenge to fly, I am looking for something faster.Do any of you real world pilots endorse the default Lear or King Air? These planes are my next challenge but I want to know if I will get the same convincing experience in them as I do in the planes I mentioned previously. The VC's are the best FS has done yet and the flight models seem imporved over FS2002 so is it worth it?Thanks,Quagmire
December 30, 200322 yr >>What do you think of the default Lear and King Air? Nothing good I am afraid. Their "Micky Mouse" panels are their worst offense.> I am looking for something faster.>Is 260 KTAS fast enough ? Then try Flight1's Piper Meridian which is probably the most realistic overall turboprop for FS9. It will be quite a challenge for you since her avionics stack is virtually 99% true to life and you may have to read 200 pages worth of docs. December 31, 200322 yr I have enjoyed the Lear periodically in FS9. At least its flyable in this version. I hate that King Air. Poorly shaped model and just boring. I wish there was a King Air B200 in its place. Just my opinion, but I really dont like the one MS modelled.Eric AND
December 31, 200322 yr G'dayTry Mike Hills RFDS Kingair its pretty spot on in the looks dept. Also perormance is pretty good and comes with a great model.NO VC at this stage as Mike is working on it at the moment.A great download if you like B200's and alot closer to reality than the fantasy one in FS9.All the bestDarren Howie
December 31, 200322 yr At least the visual model is reasonably accurate this time around. Give me 5 minutes with it and I could probably fix all the annoying little errors. The sounds still suck but I've taken care of that...
December 31, 200322 yr I find the default Lear excellent-it has a great virtual cockpit. Also I am pleased with the default King Air-I have a screenshot below showing it with a weather theme applied:
December 31, 200322 yr HiCan't say it enough. Use Lizardo's (the master tweaker from BFU's and the Cessna 195's fame) revised airfiles for the King Air (and Caravan) you have a very nice flying King Air. You may find it here:http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Lizardo/ Look under the file section.Additional to that you wanna enhance the sound with the Turboprop Sound Enhancement Package by Leon Medado: http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?DLID=40735Also I use the Baron/King Air Paintwork Fixes by Tony Gould: http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?DLID=34734The manual/Checklist Beech King Air 350 by Werner Schott:http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?DLID=37142Amd I have the (payware) Jetline 2 package from Reality XP: http://www.reality-xp.com/products/JL2/index.htmWith this you have a great and fast aircraft to fly :)Rob "Holland&Holland" de Vries http://www.emotipad.com/emoticons/Flying.gif"To go up, pull the stick back. December 31, 200322 yr Im a real world GA Pilot :) I only fly C172, C150's and Warriors! But thats more then 99% of people here! I've never been at the yoke of a real jet or turbo prop so I can't really say how real these following aircraft are but I do love them!I would suggest the PMDG737 http://www.precisionmanuals.com/default.htmor the EagleSoft Beechjet/Premier1http://www.eaglesoftdg1.com/Home.htmThe only jets I really ever fly! Real air do wonderfull work as you said your self!So do flight1 and DreamFleet ( however I think there C150 is way off. There C150 can climb out at 1000ft/m @ 100kts. I've never been in a 150 that comes even close to that! In a C172 your pushing 600ft/m at 75kts when its a cool day! )Pete
December 31, 200322 yr Like Pete, my real flying experience is limited to Cessnas and Pipers. A friend that flies the King Air says the FS9 rendition "is OK for a PC-based sim intended for a general audience." December 31, 200322 yr Same opinion here. Although I fly mostly piston-powered GA (sometimes the Caravan) I've been experimenting with the default Lear and I can say that's much better than previous versions. It's flyable, stable and not too pitch-sensitive.Of course, the Pilot Training Manual and the Flight Manual helped me a lot... ;-) but I was happy that following the guidelines in those two books actually were well modelled in MS' Lear.
December 31, 200322 yr The FS9 Lear 45 is far and again better than previous versions. The panel is reasonably accurate except for the #3 display. In the real 45 the #3 display is a multi-function display or moving map display with TCAS or electronic checklist capability. Flying characteristics are also much improved. One flaw is not nearly enough drag with flaps at 20 degrees or full flaps. Maybe I'm not critical enough but it seems to be a pleasant bird to fly. I have 650 hours in the real 45.Happy New Year Happy landings, Mike Eppright (KAAO)
December 31, 200322 yr I fly the default Learjet a lot in FS9 and, as others have said, it's significantly improved over the FS8 version. However, I recently had to hand-fly an approach, since the RWY had no ILS. The pitch motion was a little too sensitive for my taste so I went into the .cfg file and lowered pitch sensitivity down to .50 which helped. But overall, the Learjet is one my favorite planes in FS9.Bob
December 31, 200322 yr The Lear 45 is also one of my favorite planes. I would love to have a brand new realistic panel with interior views and a new sound package. That would truly make this a phenomenal jet. Any ideas for replacing these for something better? Stan
