August 15, 201114 yr Don't want to brag, but I have been very fortunate to have flown in the jumpseat of Concorde. I was working in TV at the time, making a documentary about the plane. We needed to get some shots from the cockpit as we departed the JFK airport. Of course I could see absolutely nothing and got no shots at all because of the angle of the plane, all that was visible while sat in the seat was sky!! August 15, 201114 yr Paradox, save yourself the embarrassment it is not going to happen. Now I am not sure what Delta's policies are on Part 91 flight, but for a Part 121 flight I doubt it. True, a guy with a CFI certificate with an expired commercial license filled out the jumpseat forms, and was questioned by police not soon after.. He was still allowed to board the aircraft after questioning since he had a ticket, but just wanted to ride in the flight deck jumpseat.. You have to be in the CASS system for most US airlines.
August 15, 201114 yr omg, you are to paranoiac in US. In Europe, in 70% of cases you can take that jumpseat if ask. You can raise your odds, if you do not speak with cabincrew about your intentions, just say that you want to speak to captain, they are usually more flexible than cabin crew. You can send mail to airline few days before flight with request to fly in cockpit. If their policy is not to strict, they will allow that, and give you some nice greeting before flight. August 15, 201114 yr LJ, you're correct... People here are afraid of EVERYTHING!! Showing people the flight deck is something that's still done at certain times on the ground though, and that's as far as it goes..
August 15, 201114 yr Made lots of jumpseat in the NG from SAS. My uncle is flying MD80 for SAS and he is sending e-mails to the captains before the flight to ask if I can sit there... ;-) It's great to fly on the jumpseat, the absolute best place on the airplane! The only bad thing is that the flight goes so much faster on the jumpseat.... ;-) Erik Linge Kalmar Sweden
August 15, 201114 yr I had a couple jumpseat rides, last ones a few months ago on a 737-700 from LHBP to EGKK and back. I don't know if details wouldn't harm anyone, but since having a retired pilot in the family, it's not an impossible quest to get in there. I was having a great time, and since having some built cockpit flying hours (PMDG737NG http://highfly.hu/index.php?dest=sims ), and of course FSX at home, it was incredible to see them at work, and recognizing a lot of procedures, that they kindly explained afterwards if needed. Approach and landing in Gatwick was amazing, just as at hometown Budapest. I also had 1 hour in a 737-800 last year enroute LGKO-LHBP.Great experiences, if ever getting close to a chance, don't miss the opportunity!!! Zsolt Bondar
