August 18, 201114 yr Hello guys. As the topic pretty much indicates, i was wondering how i can chose the appropriote SID and STAR for a route. Lets say im going to fly "EHAM SID WOODY UN872 NIK UY131 MOPIL STAR LFPG". So how do i know which SID i should choose? I assume i have to pick one that has the shortest path onto the WOODY waypoint, or at least one that leads me the closest to it? In that case, how do i know which SID this is? The same goes for the STAR selection, what should i look for when i chose one and how do i know its the apropriote one. And also, in which cases do i chose departure and approach transitions for the SID's AND STAR's? Thanks for your time!

August 18, 201114 yr WOODY is a SID and STAR is a STAR. So the most simple thing would to pick those. However, it also depends from what runway you take off... When you take off from EHAM 18C, you will not find WOODY in the CDU as a SID! To really get going (so I found out) you need charts and you need to know what to look for... In case you are Dutch (since you start at EHAM), you might want to check out the last pages of this FSX-topic: http://gathering.twe...ages/1411805/63 In case you're not Dutch, start here: http://forum.avsim.n...__fromsearch__1 A transition often has the name of the last waypoint of the STAR. (I don't think transitions are used for departures...?) Mind you, I am also in the process of learning all this, just since yesterday. Here is another topic that might help: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/344579-pmdg-flight-plans-and-fs-commander/page__st__25
August 18, 201114 yr Just use the SID that's going in the right direction of your flight plan, and then usethe last waypoint in the SID as the first one in your flight plan. Usuallymultiple SIDs will bring you to the same waypoint, regardless of whichrunway is in use. Then do the same in the reverse order for the STAR. Of course you can alsomake a transition from the sid to your first waypoint. You'll have to guess which runway is in use at your destination, and be prepared to make a lastminute rwy change. Hope it helps. ------------------------ Mattias Nordin ESOW
August 18, 201114 yr You can leave STAR open, and select it in cruise, when ATC gives you one. Lj. Prodanovic Lj. Prodanovic
August 18, 201114 yr Hello,Acutally try to find some charts on the web (Jeppesen or Lido). They will give you all informations you need such as specific SID or STAR for each runway depending on your procedure (RNAV or NOT).Also they will provide you useful settings for your departure like runway slope...Regards SAFIR OTHMANE
August 19, 201114 yr It's important to choose the runway before you pick a sid or a star.It then narrows down your choices !! Fred. Frederic Steiner.
