Hi, With this thread from Dick (rhumbaflappy) http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=169338&page=I have been able to reproduce A CTD from a zip files including a situation with 0% addons installed in fs2004.But I am not able to reproduce the Zurich area like from some users that's have CTD with or without 3rd party addons installed in fs2004, texture size to max or med etc still no CTD. Try this and see if your CTD still remain in fs2004:In my test with the Dick (rhumbaflappy) flight, check if your area you fly or fs2004 will still have CTDI can fixe this by:Texture size slider is located on your top left in your fs2004 display:-Set the texture size to medium, there is NO CTD-Set the texture size to max it crash, there is CTD.If I use my addons mesh below, with texture size to max there is NO CTDhttp://www.simviation.com/terrain.htmhttp://avsim.com/terrafish/All Orlando Mesh from avsim. My setting in fs2004 mesh to 85% or 100%Now the problems is related to what's?I have checked all BMP in F2004texture and worldtexture it's not any BMP texture in fs2004 cause CTD.3 things maybe:-It's some mesh-Texture applied to the mesh-Or the ground engine ( texture size slider)ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs

Hi, Yes another one:To Reproduce the CTD:Go to Airports ID: ENAN, 25 october, Fs 2004 CTD at loading. Even with my mesh installed, still CTD with this one, it works only with the texture size to Med, at Max it crash.Texture size slider to Med is the real solution for now, until a true fixe.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs

I do get a CTD in this situation. First time for me, I guess I've never flown in any of the "right" areas. I see a lot of whining about it, but has anybody reported this to MS?

Hi.The example with ENAN is only one of the airports affected. ENNK gives the same result. after 22. november then it's ok.want to know my theory? here goes:The seasons in fs2004 have 5 main seasons: spring, summer, fall, winter and hard winter. In norway we get snow early up in northern norway. This is modelled in fs2004. as the times goes in the fall, we get more and more snow textures blending in with the fall textures. My therory is that it's a bug in the program that blends the show(winter textures) with the remaining fall textures. My guess is that this is controlled within the seasons.bgl. maybe a faulty filename for one of the textures in the bgl code. this error also occour when fs goes from winter to spring. late winter fs gives us more and more springtextures blending with snowtextures.I have mentioned this error earlier on the forum, but nobody seemed to be listening to me then. I guess that it was only we norwegians that lives up here in the north that discovered this bug, due to the fact that we live in a nation that gets snow first. In fact: fs2004 is not wery useable in northern norway between 21. october and 22. november. after 22 nov. it ok again because then the ground is completely snowtextured and no blending with fall textures happends. That only means that after 22. nov the problems goes further south until 22 desember when fs changes to winterseason.Jan Roar Rod

Hi,I have done a couple of flights in lfbo (Toulouse, France) where I also experienced CTD and all I did was fly in spring (that's the only other season I have tried besides winter) and after a couple of flights in that area in spring, I didn't experience any CTD. I know, 2 non-crash flights in 1 area in a different season won't prove anything to anyone, I will try again.Regards,Francois

For what it is worth, we have found two things that cause this Land Class CTD.Don't make LC bgls that are to big. All of Italy would not be proper. A bgl the size of Sicily might be ok, especially if you are doing some coastline editing in the area. The main reason for the CTDs is a corrupted SCENERY.dat file.Try the following:If you get a CTD at a particular area, delete the scenery.dat file for the addon area, shut down you puter for 15 minutes. On startup everything will be fine.I always erase the scenery.dat files and let FS rebuild them correctly after any scenery addon. Also if you cache your scenery, delete it as well on any scenery addon or you will have problems with CTDs.The path in XP is C:/Documents and Settings/User (name)/Application Data/Microsoft/FS9/SceneryCacheThe path in 98 is C:WINDOWSApplication DataMicrosoftFS9SceneryCachehttp://members.rogers.com/jkanold/jimlogo.gif

The error in Norway is without ANY addonscenery. It's default fs2004.Jan Roar Rod

Hello all,I'm affected like most of you by seasonal CTDs, and being italian mine is due to the wonderful "Italylandpack" land class made by Francesco Mandelli.I tried to set the texture to "Med", but I still got a CTD approaching Aosta (LIMW) today, sorry I forgot to save the situation. My impression regarding these crashes is that FS9 uses lots of RAM, and in various cases, mostly with add on land class sceneries, it excedes the physical memory size of the PC and it crashes. Try loading any of those situations that cause CTDs with a memory manager active and see for yourselves. Now the problem is: is this a memory leak, that is a bug that is to be addressed by MS, or it's just that the memory requirements to handle complex land classes are 2GB of RAM?happy new year, and let's hope it will be ayaer of Peace.Francesco RomeoMy config:Athlon XP 1800+, 512MB RAM, 80 Gb HD, Pietro Mauri's Italy Mesh with slider 85%, Italylandpack by Francesco Mandelli, ISD airports

I am not yet at thepoint where I am experiencing these CTDs, but I do expect to be installing complex landclass along with mesh soon (RealScene 2004 is ordered.)When doing various property settings on my video card, I noticed some kind of texture mapping memory extension setting. I think it allows a card to extend texture bumps beyond the ram on the video card into mobo ram, but I'm not sure.Perhaps someone more knowlegable than myself could expand on this and see if this kind of adjustment might provide a work-around.My vid card is 128 GF4-Ti4200 based under W98SE.

Hi Chris and all.Problems with ENAN and other default CTDs do seem to be cured by Joachim's terrain.cfg patch and textures.I had stated I thought these to be a "bandaid" solution... but it does cure the default CTDs I have tested ( pretty good bandaid ).It requires textures placed into the 'worldtexture' folder, and replacing the terrain.cfg with his example ( back that up first ). The textures will do no harm if simply left there. The old terrain.cfg can be restored if a problem arises.Do we know the root cause?... not yet, but the CTDs I checked in the defaults are due to seasonal changes and the AB files which are the airport background VTP2 polys ( delete the AB*.bgl for the area and the problem goes away ). As Joachim found, the polys are not the problem, but the special masking of the textures seems to be, and that is controlled by the terrain.cfg file. I don't know if all default CTDs are caused by this, but all I have checked are. http://jobia.bei.t-online.de/crashdes.htmAll this may seem a waste of time, as Holger and others have tread this path before, but I have been concerned about the lack of default examples that can be shared by FLT files. We need more FLT examples of the default seasonal CTDs to confirm.Dick

>If you get a CTD at a particular area, delete the scenery.dat>file for the addon area, shut down you puter for 15 minutes. What does shutting down the computer for 15 minutes have to do with anything?

Kind of like a "timeout" you have with unruly children - everyone goes to a neutral corner to cool off ;-)

I juse no land-class nor mesh files at all, and have had no crashes yet. I do have some airport scenery installed at various locations which also do not appear to do anything bad.If anyone wants me to test anything from a default position, I'd be very glad to help out.Thanks,Bruce.
