For all those people who keep telling everyone else who asks a question here. Please for the love of God please stop telling everyone they should read the manual before even considering posting. I know it can be frustrating for you if someone asks an obvious question but in reality away from the internet people/human beings do not have the time to do so. I find some forums a pleasure to be around where people with the expert knowledge who are only to glad to share that expertise with others. The forum is surely a place to come and ask for advice and almost get an instant answer. That is the beauty of it. Then by default the forum itself becomes a wealth of knowledge. With a search your answer may or may not be found but at least it has been electronically documented for future use. I admire people who share there knowledge and i have a lot of respect for people who have taken the time to acquire that information. Please make this place a better forum by not judging people for there lack of knowledge. There are times when it's appropriate to say at least do the Tutorial or have a basic grasp of FSX functions etc but don't start getting on top of someone just because they didn't read anex b supplement 5 of page whatever. It's just pedantic and i am sure makes you look a bit of a tool to the majority of users here. Happy flying. Phil Brewer

This is a good point. It's always ok to ask for help. However, Sorelimbs, you need to read the PMDG forum rules. Your full name is required when posting in the PMDG forum.

Sit at the back! It won't reverse into a mountain!

I mostly agree. RTFM is, however, an appropriate response when someone assumes that the reason they can't do something is because the software has a problem. My comment for those people is, if you like to do wacky things that no pilot would ever do, or you don't like to read (or know how to), don't run to the forum to post your grievances the moment things don't work out for you. Yep totally agree. Ignorance is no escuse but a bit more patience and guidance is surely better than a full out "read the manual" approach don't you think? After time a community is built and this place becomes a great place to come for all sorts of topics.

You are right about a forum being the place to ask questions, I have many times....... This PMDG 737NGX has brought a lot of newbies and people who don't usually fly the NG to this forum and whilst I love posting to help people out (the majority of my posts), it can be a tad frustrating when they clearly haven't searched the forum to see if a question has been answered before.I'll still answer if I can because I don't get uptight about it but some can....... Dan.

Agreed. That's one of the best things about flight simming. The community. Only, it leaves a bit to be desired here in the U.S. Trevor

I agree. What I absolutely can't stand is when people obviously know the answer and could type it down in a heartbeat, but rather invest a much larger effort on typing down a lengthy beratement about how one could have looked it up on his own. Is it so painful to be a helpful soul and so much more rewarding to be an arrogant &@($* about it? Personally, I think not.

Yep a search before posting is just common sense and especially when that question is a title of a sticky post :) Phil
Phil, I think the big thing here is that when posing the question, one should search the manual before cluttering up the forums. Not to mention most questions asked lately have already been covered in the forum before. It's really hard for some of us to keep from saying "how the heck did they miss that?!" i.e. Rain drops on the VC windows. Rolling%20Eyes.gif Anyway, I'm guilty of saying "did you check the manuals" so I'll take your advice and refrain. These forums have been almost as entertaining as the NGX lately so it's been easy to keep up!

+2275.... (the number of pages in the FCOM) In an ideal world, people would read the manual cover to cover, then search/browse the forum, then ask their question. I laugh at anyone who actually thinks that would take place here - especially with this particular airplane. In this real world, most people will read or otherwise reference the introductory manuals and tutorials, browse the forum a bit, and then ask their question. Add in a 150-page intro manual, a 90-page tutorial, 416-page flight crew manual, a 2200-page main reference manual, and a forum who's post rate flushes posts 3-pages deep in 6 hours, and you've got an unfriendly recipe for new users. For those of you who could fly the bird without even LOOKING at the manual due to your experience with previous 737 models, great! Give some leeway to those for whom this is their first bigtime airplane. The airplane is complex enough as it is - there's no need to make someones first foray on the forums an equally challenging experience. -Greg

There is always the mixed approach. One can answer the question in a friendly way and close the reply with the words: btw, you could have looked it up here and there, for future reference. That way people get help quickly, learn how to proceed in the future and they take away a positive forum experience.

I have seen all the help you have given to others in this forum and indeed you have helped me with some of your posts. I remember one you did the other day where a guy was asking you several quetions and in the end you said "your killing me!" but you did help and i did smile at your patience. Your one of the people who obviously have a lot of knowledge and it is i can assure you very reassuring to have people like yourself on these forums :)

I haven't felt very good about myself since the 2nd hotfix. Will this be addressed in the service pack? I'm trying to decide which of these two pieces of useful help is worse: 1: RTFM 2: Just go get a faster computer.
