The most challenging approach

...As far as the 732 crash... Those are very old aircraft and I can't believe they are still in service, hmm...
Sorry, felt I had to comment as well... These particular aircraft, and all the -200's that still remain in Canadian service (Air North, Canadian North, First Air...etc) are spot on taken care of gang. Never worked on em but taken pretty good stare downs of them and they are very well taken care of. Everyone in those organizations are well aware of particular attention to maintenance that these machines require, especially in the environments they operate in, and spare no expense nor time nor effort. The AME's at these outfits typically have decades worth of experience on these types. They have their quirks but so does everything. Avionics-wise lots of 'em have been really spiffed up with dual-FMS' (UNS-1's), WAAS capability you name it. Although at the moment not much use for WAAS up north. Resolute is one of the best equipped airports in the region as well. Many are limited to RNAV-GPS apps or the good ol' NDB. Sorry for the off topic but. meh...

I guess we all forgot about the challenging river visual approach to RWY19 in KDCA. Aspen/Pitkin County airport´s pretty cool too. Though they don´t operate 737s. Theoretically they could though

I've put some serious hours into the NGX. I want some extremely hard approaches. I've mastered Kai Tak and Toncontin. Innsbruck and Sucre don't seem very challenging to me. Is there anything thing more extreme out there? List your most extreme airports that pilots wouldn't dare to do with passengers here!
Don't underestimate Sucre and Innsbruck too soon. Try the runway 5 approach into Sucre - can be extremely difficult! To be honest though, I did land a 747-300 in Sucre, the problem is taking off, mostly. At least, that I find more challenging than the actual approach. As for LOWI, of course, when you fly there in bright sunshine there isn't too much difficulty. Now get yourself some snow, and it'll be a lot harder, believe me.

Ohh and I forgot to mention CYCG! Castlegar/ West Kootenay Regional Airport. Pacific Western used to operate in there with 37-200's back in the day. Very challenging approach for runway 15 as you zoom down the valley, from the north, mile back and around 5000 ft (so they say...hehe). Plant her on with a nasty, steeper than normal glideslope on the offset localizer with around 5000 ft to work with. That will make ya sweat. Of course the majority of people flying there opt for the circling approaches to rnwy 33...give ya a little more room. Still havn't tried it yet in the NGX...waiting for the -600 (come on!!!) For those in the Edmonton area, there's a good pilot there in the 737 exhibit at the museum at City Centre. Loves to tell ya about his days ripping in with PW. He'll sit ya in the cockpit and talk you right through all the neat things and how they managed this day in day out. Good gang.

That Resolute Bay approach (sp?) Why did they attempt an NDB approach with 200 ft ceilings?!?!

It's not strictly an NDB approach, its an ILS or NDB RWY 35 TRUE. Min's for the ILS approach are 200ft. CYRB.jpg

Ahhh, I missed that part... still a tough approach especially with a tailwind... ugh. Too bad though.

Queenstown NZ. NZQN. Very much like LOWI, but can be worse in bad weather landing runway 23. You def need charts. Jetstar pilots use to chicken out there and divert if they saw a cloud in the sky. There is a NZQN airprt fix in the Avsim libary I think. Fixes the FSX elevation at that airport. Vector land class is better still, but it is payware. I believe ORBX are releasing their version later this year. Edit: It is winter in nzqn, so even better to give it a try. You can fly in from oz, or from nzch, it is only 45 mins from there. There is no radar let down, so that's why the charts are important. In real life, queenstown does not have night flights.
I've sat in those jetstar planes for two of these. Its actually quite thrilling for the passengers as well! Left right left right left right. Beware you may get motion sickness Hypnotized.gif They usually divert all arrivals if theres the slightest cloud in sight! When we left there was a pretty huge blizzard and all the flights were cancelled for the next 2-3 days... (24th July 11') Anyway back to the flight sim. Keep the NZQN approaches in mind because OrbX are developing an NZ South island scenery pack. And I've heard talk about them also working on a NZQN airport - Is that still a goer? Those two together + some 738NG QF livery will make some amazing realism. Will bring a whole new level of realism and difficulty to FSX in the southern hemisphere Love.gif Cheers.

Kind Regards,

Dan Wela

Still do, and Qantas. ANZ are the only ones game enough to do it when its cloudy/foggy but they have lights on the runway now so they can see a bit better in bad weather. Kade Bellaney

Try flying through the mountains to do a circuit at Milford. There are no nav aids of any sort. The default scenery for Milford Sound is crap, so I am hoping that Orbx will do a better job when they release their new project for Queenstown, including a decent job of Milford airport. But you can get the idea.In reality it is restricted to approved pilots only as the tourist operations there are intense when the weather is good, and the circuit and approach is quite tight for 29 (which is the prevailing wind direction), plus you don't really get to see the runway until very short final, and you get a lot of turbulence off the mountains.
