September 3, 201114 yr Judge Concorde on its sales, its a faliure. they ended up nearly giving them away similar to what they are doing with the A380 just to a lesser extent (no, not trying to have a go at airbus fans). It is similar to the A380. A380 carries ridiculous amount of people. Concorde goes really fast. Neither really were a hands down success. I wonder how those proposals to get one Concorde flying again are going. Would be awesome but i doubt.Interesting. Boeing sold about 1500 747s over 30 years. The 747 8I sold 33 units until now. Lufthansa as launch customer of the 747 8I is the reason that this program is still alive after all. Nevertheless the 747 8F seems to be fairly successful, but without the freighter the program would be a disaster according to the sales. The A380 sold about 230 units until now. I bet after 10 to 15 years they will have sold more than the 560 of the 747/400 and 8I passenger version. Roland Schmalzl
September 3, 201114 yr On my wishlist when I visit the USA or the UK to visit a Concorde. Both optimists and pessimists contribute to our society. The optimist invents the airplane and the pessimist the parachute. ~Gil Stern

I don't think many more airlines are going to go for too many more A380's. Qantas has already pulled out of 6 of their orders. In today's market, it just doesn't really work. Lets face it everyone, the 777 is the best long haul aircraft. More sales, more range, lower emissions. The 747 and A380 only excel on a few routes. Yup, that's true, however, I was judging it on its technological achievement, and there's no way that could be regarded as a failure. AlYes, for its era, it was amazing. September 5, 201114 yr i like the animation they used to present the 737-MAX i wonder if this is BOEINGS own simulator software or just a animation . I saw alot of detail when the camera was paning around the 737-MAX on the air .... Image removed as image is no longer available.
September 7, 201114 yr Well apparently P&W don't think the MAX will be much on a success, pity really, I always thought though that a clean sheet design was what was needed from boeing, sure the nose section is still based on the nose of a 707, time for something new I say...http://news.airwise.com/story/view/1315351228.html Rónán O Cadhain.
September 7, 201114 yr I think that the most interesting part is not the external shape but the internal cockpit instead. I assume it will abandon the old style instruments in favour of 787 style ones, therefore big and easily readable glass sections here and there , a specific one also dedicated to EFBag. Anyone has cockpit screens ? Thx
September 7, 201114 yr Seeing the Boeing webpage on this reminds me of when PMDG revealed the first pictures of the NGX. Maybe not the same anticipation, since we can't exactly afford the real thing anyways, but it's still exciting nonetheless. Notice there is no -600. Well, the -600 has not been a great seller. No wonder they terminated it. Most sales involving the -800 and -700 models. Dave P. Woycek

What customers have told us is don't touch the cockpit, and our plans are not to do that." <- http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2011/08/31/361440/boeing-aims-to-minimise-737-max-changes.html Patrick Houghton
September 7, 201114 yr Actually, it is pretty much just new engines. Boeing was out-played by Airbus' Neo 320 airplane. The folks in Chicago were hoping to make a decision on a new airplane or a re-engined 737 by end of year, but AB's sales at Paris, plus American Airline's forcing the issue (we will commit now to 737s but they have to have new more fuel efficient engines) pushed them down the new engine, same basic airplane path. Has to be viewed as a strategic setback for Boeing as the whole new plane would have allowed for a significantly greater use of Dreamliner tech plus perhaps a cabin more like the DL and less like the 50 year old 707. Airbus forced them to play their game... Colin Ware
September 7, 201114 yr Don't hold your breath on the Max Expansion pack, if anything it will be quite some time before the project could be started. Boeing does not even know Diameter of the Turbofans yet. http://www.aviationweek.com/aw/generic/story_channel.jsp?channel=comm&id=news/avd/2011/09/05/02.xml&headline=737 MAX Was No Surprise, Airbus Says Paul Deemer
