  1. I had to reinstall my NGX this week and am now encountering the "fatal flaw" error message both on exiting the program, and if I try to re-load a flight I've started. This doesn't happen with the NGX when I've installed the base plane, or the 1b patch. But it happens every time with the 1c patch.I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times, always making sure to install as administrator.Any thoughts?Colin Ware
  2. I had to reinstall FSX this week and starting up the trusty NGX found myself once again getting freezes and images falling apart when opening up menu items from the "alt" menus and then returning to the sim.Ryan sent me a file or module or .dll (I don't remember) that helped with this issue which if I remember correctly is related to my 64 bit operating system. Is this ringing a bell with anyone? Thanks!Colin WareSeattle
  3. Thanks all for the replies. As noted in my original post, I've installed the base magdek file as noted in the pinned topic. I've also played around with the other tools at length inlcuding adding the new nav data files. Still no joy. Still three degrees out.Was hoping there was an easy fix. Reading through the related posts, it seems not. I'm going to have to try eznav to update the vors on the Skyline departure and see if that helps. Can anyone tell me which scenery folder has Northern California? Would like to start there.Thanks.
  4. I flew the Skyline 7 departure today out of Oakland and noticed a discrepency between the published vor radial intercepts and the actual ones in the sim.To elaborate:In this departure, you leave runway 29 in Oakland, fly runway heading and then start a gradual turn to the left, intercepting the 135 radial off of the PYE VOR. You fly that radial until you intercept the Woodside 180 radial which is the PESCA interchange then turn left to join the 116 radial out of Woodside which you can take as far as Avenal VOR.Here's the problem, in the sim, the 135 radial does not align with the fms waypoints like PORTE - or the intersection with OSI. It is about three degrees off.Similar story with the OSI radial. You are supposed to turn at the PORTE intersection and join the 116 radial which will take you directly to AVE. However, you have to dial in 119 on the radios to get a radial which aligns up with Avenal.I have updated the overall magnetic variation file, as well as the magnetic variation of the VORS etc, in the BGL files using tools at the HSS Software site but nothing is getting those radials to line up with the FMS intersections and waypoints or those published on SID, STAR and Enroute charts. Is this fixable? Otherwise those cool green dashed lines on the map display are a little less useful. Thanks!Colin WareSeatte. Also, I've noticed that the physical locations of the nav aids do not match the ones on the Navigraph charts.Colin
  5. http://simhq.com/_mobile/mobile_001a.htmlSaw this on Sim HQ for the Warthog. I'd pay for this for the NGX...Colin Ware
  6. I seriously doubt this is a "pet project." There is a dearth of good radial propliners out there - and many folks who would love the challenge of learning to drive these planes. That would include me. PMDG is a pretty solid business. They know their market exceptionally well. This is not a hobby for most of them - it's their job.I'm frankly less than excited about the 777. Pretty much just like driving the 737 in terms of which buttons you push and when - just a lot more time in cruise which interests me not. Colin A DC-7 is just a bigger DC6 with larger, (and probably less relilable) engines to give it trans con range.
  7. I'm excited that we finally get a real propliner in FSX with realistic operations. I'm not all that excited about the 777. Pretty much the same as flying the NGX, just more hours in cruise....many more hours in the ER...Colin
  8. Thank you Robert. You've been down this road before when the Fly! franchise wound down. I think I could still dig up my 777 installer from 11 years ago....I'm sure you will weather this storm as well whether it's releasing planes optimized for Prepar3d or X-Plane.Best,Colin Ware, Seattle
  9. Suggestions that Microsoft's marketing team is good at what they do flies in the face of their abject failure as a consumer marketing company. Let's review some of their raging successes....The iphone...no...sorry, that was apple. Instead we got Windows Mobile, a system so frustrating I ruined my Treo throwing it against the wall when it froze up for the umpteenth time on an important business trip.Oh, and remember the Kin? Didn't think so. I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't tried to buy up every internet reference to that flop like Jane Fonda tried to buy up every copy of Barbarella...the ipod...no...sorry, my mistake again. How could I forget that marketing powerhouse the Zune...how careless ofme.Ok, how about You Tube....ah, well, there I go again. Not Microsoft. They did publish Soap Box, but the six people who posted video there would never admit it in public today....Microsoft's marketing geniuses must have forseen the market for the ipad..right? Hmm, guess not.Let's face it, once you get past the X-Box, Money (until the banks took that market away) and Encarta (now replaced by Wikipedia) you have a legacy of abject failure to read the consumer market. It's hard not to see this as a cynical ploy to try to try to pretend this is Farmville or other games with micro economies so they can go to the stock market and say"Hey, we are still a growth stock..."Colin in Seattle
  10. never mind! It does work. Just needed the latest version of the PFC dll
  11. I have an old Cirrus II PFC console and the pfc dll that makes it work fine for FSX does not work in P3D.Is the older PFC stuff compatible, or are there plans for compatibility?Searched the forum and found just one reference to PFC.Thanks.Colin
  12. I wonder how long this monthly subscription will last when Microsoft realizes that it's losing share to the licensed product here.....
  13. Per Tom Allensworth's post in another thread, Microsoft will welcome third party developers who don't mind sharing a percentage of the revenue. The one developer invited to the pre-launch party in Redmond said the percentage made developing for Flight a non-starter. You do the math.Microsoft must think that sophisticated add-ons are as easy to make as i-phone aps...Colin
  14. I was one of those MBAs 20 years ago! LOLI'm not sure I can agree that PC gaming is dying. Gamespy is now dedicated only to PC gaming...
  15. It's probably a good idea. I have run out of installs on my original copy of FSX so that can happen.Colin
  16. This is exactly on point. At the AVSIM conference in Seattle sometime back, the ACES folks talked about how just 10% of FS buyers went on to purchase add ons. That told me they would be happy to continue to provide the engine, and let the talented third party developers serve the enthusiast market. So how do they go from that to an itunes marketplace model when so few people buy add ons?And how will you be able to do a long flight if you have to buy cities and states piecemeal? This feels like a newly minted MBA came up with it - I'm sure the charts and powerpoint slides were pretty but whoever said that most gamers will be bored with Flight in about 10 minutes hit the nail on the head.Flying to get coins floating in the air? That's going to get the Battlefield 3 crowd on board...Colin
  17. A plane that's number one feature is that it really isn't much more than a car...that's the best they could do?Colin
  18. When I saw the gameplay video on another site tonight, all I could think was the folks at MS look like they are competing with the lame flight games in Wii Resorts...balloons, coins in the sky dtc. When I want a flying challenge, that is not what I'm looking for...Colin
  19. I know this is an informal poll, but I the real determinant of whether or not I'll buy any additional stuff for Flight is the quality of the offerings. You would have to pay me to download the default 737 as not-free add on for instance.Colin
  20. Actually, the 777 isn't that interesting to me. I don't have the time to sit in cruise for 14 hours...However, I would be completely jazzed to see the Level D 757 released and, I'd love to see some missions for the NGX in the mode of the Type Rating missions that PMDG created for the Queen. I'm getting a little bored just flying from place to place.Colin Ware - Seattle
  21. The planes are a good value at this price point. All have shortcomings that CS has chosen not to address;1. Flight Directors in the Herc, the 727 and 707 do not work properly2. FMC in the 757 will not consistently load legs of stars into flight plans after selection from the apr/dep menu3. FMC in the 757 is simplified vs. Level D offering (and leaps and bounds behind the 737 NGX from PMDG)3. Engine data not correct as noted above
  22. I just flew from KLAS to CYYC in the Westjet 800. The new update really delivered the goods. No idle thrust problem, proper attitude over the threshold, no floating for a quarter of a mile. The HUGS system is just amazing - I've done three solid approaches now with the heads up display.Great job PMDG. I'm loving flying this plane.Colin Ware, Seattle
  23. Could someone point me to the HUGS section of the included manuals? Could not find them in the main operators guide.
