T337H

Featured Replies

Hello Folks, I think that the T337H Skymaster is a 337G which received minor changes and an optional turbocharged engine, so, i had a look at the cfg file and of course the turbo "option" is = 0.Any folks around here for a proper modified cfg for a Turbocharged version ?I tried modifying some values but the result was = #####, the world was spinning around like hell, no nothing was working, even the ctrl-shfit F1 did nothing...Anybody for this challenge ?Cheers.

You need to add these lines to the [piston_engine] section emergency_boost_type= 0 emergency_boost_mp_offset= 0 emergency_boost_gain_offset= 0 even if there's no such use for standard turbocharged engines, FSX apparently needs these lines in any case.

Thank you bstolle, with these entries and some other i can get a SkyrocketSecret.gifCheers.

can we know what the full changes are?? I'm interested - I thought this was the turbo charged version. do we just do the first change along with those other 3 lines?

Ciao!

All the emergency stuff stays at 0! It just needs to be thereYou need to change these lines to your liking turbocharged= 0 max_design_mp= 0 min_design_mp= 0 critical_altitude= 0

Hello Brian ---- I have done some experimental work with my 337 to convert it to a turbo version. I have based my value choices on previous experience with the actual turbocharged aircraft back in the 70s and 80s. Try these numbers as a starting point: turbocharged = 1max_design_mp = 35min_design_mp = 10critical_altitude = 19000 Per specification, the normally aspirated engines provided a workable service cieling of about 18,000 feet. The turbo will get you into the low twenties. Note also that your fuel consumption will jump a bit along with the extra air from the turbo. You may want to tweak your fuel flow just a bit downward. The hard part is that exact spec numbers from old Cessna information are not easy to find --- at least for me anyway. I am gonna keep looking but my 337 is consuming and demonstrating power as I remember the real ship. A long time ago Big Grin.gif Have Fun -- Tinker around a bit -- you will like the performance with turbo boost for long cross country flying at higher altitudes. Watch that EGT though --- Big Grin.gif Cheers!!! Bob

Thanx Bob, I wanted to mention that it was you who found out by trail and error why the 'turbo' isn't working, but with only your e-mail I couldn't remember your avsim username, sorry.

Hey FOlks, tried the values given by Bob and here are the result:1 pilot, 10 pds on the right seat and the 15 pds on the baggage, 50% fuel.Climb => 17000ft, 30MP - 2600rpm - 165 knts IAS - more than 2000 ft Vsi, (needle stuck at 2000)...Cruise=> 17000ft, 25MP - 2500rpm - 185 knts IASThis is very impressive but these perfs are more like a 337 with TSIO 580 engines, 350hp and 2 turbos on each engines = 700 HP, this 337 really exist. Also, on the ground, the RPM indications are "stuck" between 17 an 20, don't remember exactly, therefore, taxiing is very fast, way to fast...as for landing, even throttles idle, you still have power !!Is something wrong with the min_design_mp = 10 value ?Sorry, don't understand the 0 value suggested by Bstolle ?What's about you Folks, what Perfs to you get ?Have fun.Cheers.

Hello Yankee ----I rechecked my min_design_mp setting and it is at 3 psi. That and proper prop trim will allow your engine to idle lower. We also must remember this plane was set up for a non-turbo operation. What we are doing is "cheating" the system a bit. All things do not play exactly right together but do pretty well, all factors considered -- Big Grin.gif I also use prop pitch to optimize climb and cruise power settings. Keeping the prop RPM in the green helps, both during climb and at cruise altitude. Depending on relative winds, you should expect 180-200 kts GROUND speed at 19000-21000 feet. That is what the real 337 turbo did. If your sim is doing way more than that, back your power and fuel consumption down for more realism. Have fun and experiment. This is a very versatile aircraft. And use a little imagination Big Grin.gif Regards!!!!

Hey Bob,Thanks for answering. Your right, we are cheating but having 3000ft Vsi in climb is a lot of fun and this is real too. In fact & depending on winds aloft, i achieve a 220 Knts ground speed, fingers in the nose, as for climb & cruise, prop pitch, power settings and fuel flow management IS the key, btw what is your fuel flow indication at FL 190 ?Now we have a faster C337, the yellow arc and the red line- Airspeed indicator- must be "set" to higher speeds, red line at 220/230 Knts ? (have to find a photoshop guy)...Have a lot of fun.Cheers.

This will get you started. Make sure you have a good backup prior to messing around with the fictitious turbo.Ray
