FSX/P3D AIRCRAFTS: Compatibility Questions and Issues

Featured Replies

Prepar3d is more annoying and problematic than FSX currently.. I'm actually sort of annoyed.. They gloat about backwards compatibility but 75% of the stuff requires some sort of tweaking or just plain doesn't work right.Caredano JetProp.. Loads fine if you select it from the aircraft list, but will cause Prepar3d to crash if you set a flight with it in it as your default flight. Again, none of the click spots work.. It's more like "Backwards Compatible... Ish"

You can't expect them to move in a positive direction with the program without causing some sort of incompatibility problems, do you? They are doing their best to maintain it, but as they move forward, it will cause a few issues. One of the big issues I would assume, which is not their fault, is the directory where Prepar3D is installed and the temp folders it uses. Add-ons can't autodetect these that were made for FSX, so some tweaks have to be made to make the add-ons work. They are still compatible, some just require directory tweaks and such.

With regards to buttons and switches not working in some aircraft i sort of posted about it on the Prepar3d forum and ive tested the stock aircraft and found it happens to one of them as well and posted about it, so it look like we may get help from LM on this issue if they can confirm the issue at their end.http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=872

Ok, this is a new problem I never had before and started happening after installing the FTX side by side. The planes, any of them randomly go through this "I refuse to start or run" phase.. No reloading no nothing fixes it.. Great example.. I was just flying the C340 at night, decided to enable bloom.. After clicking accept and returning to the game my engines shut off and refused to restart.. Ok, reset scenario... And my engines still won't start.. Everything is set right, tanks etc set.. Engines won't start.. Switch to another aircraft... Engines won't start.. Ok... So I set auto mixture. Engines almost started... Exited game, came back and engines are now running. So I disable auto mixture and they continue to run and restarted fine after shutting down to test. Sweet.. Back I go flying but before I do I change it to night time.. Guess what.. My engines shut off and refused to start when re-entering the game after loading the night textures.Mind you, this is after I did a complete fresh install from scratch hoping this would be fixed. Only thing installed w/ PrePar3D is the Orbx SBSL and a few known working.aircraft.

Just an addition to the above.. I seemed to have fixed it by setting it back to Prepar3d default via FTX Central, launching the sim (updating scenery etc again), shutting down and renabling orbx.. I can't reproduce the issue anymore now.

Hi Bob,

Status on the Carenado planes I have ported are:

210: works

337: clickspots work, but do not rightclick on screen

P-46: clickspots work if you ctrl-delete the seat forwards, but it is very unstable. Even when you're lucky enough that it actually loads, it sometimes crash during flight.

I spoke to Carenado support and they tell me that all their planes work perfectly in P3D and it is just a question of putting things in the right place. They also said they will make installers for P3D for their planes which is cool. Meanwhile they didn't offer any specifics on how to get the right files into the right folders :-( I would really like to see the Pa-46 work in P3D.

Valar,

Thanks for the feedback. I will post back hear if I have some time to do more testing, and if you find any more info please post back here.

I ported over the Maule from P3D and it works fine in FSX. Also, it appears the cabin lighting has been modified or fixed. I no longer have it installed in FSX thoughNail%20Biting.gif

If anyone buys the new Carenado C90 and has Prepar3D can you please let me/us know if it works with Prepar3D or not? All VC buttons and knobs etc.. Thanks in advance if you can.. I want to buy it but I'm only buying aircraft now for use in Prepar3D

Yes, ditto.

I decided to take the gamble and just purchased it crossing my fingers it would work and if it didn't would just fly it in FSX until it was delt with at a later date.

And....

It does work! I clicked everything I could get my mouse on in the cockpit and couldn't find a single item that wouldn't work. No crashes at all. Worked perfectly. The Avydyne at first may seem inoperable until you give the plane some power and everything works on that when it's turned on.. Just off it might come across like it doesn't. Ok, back to flying this beast.. :yahoo:

Edit: Some of the environmental controls won't be operable until you move the eyepoint forward a bit, but unless you care about cabin temp etc it's not a deal breaker. Going to test a bit more and see if that's it.

Well they did something different with the 337 then because it has no clickspots. Maybe it is something else that is causing it. I have EZDOK, which might be the only addon that might interfere.

Ok, these are the only non-functional things in Prepar3D that are actually operable items.. A few will work if you move the eyepoint forward. By no means a deal breaker and all items I would never use anyway...

OK, so there still is a problem. You want to hear something sort of funny? I ported over the P3D Maule into FSX and it worked great. They even fixed the cabin lighting. Of course I removed it from FSX because I am sure it is a violation.
