October 16, 201114 yr I see in other threads that there has been an update released? I see no such update on the Carenado web page. I registered on their site but since I purchased the aircraft from Simmarket and not Carenado "my products" page is empty and I see no way to register it with them? RE Thomason Jr.
October 18, 201114 yr You have to log into the account you bought the plane from on the Carenado web site, then it will be listed for you. If you bought it somewhere else, then it's a waiting game until they get the updated install file. October 19, 201114 yr Author Well that's rather silly, they have to know people buy their products from other sites than them and if they issue an update or a patch for one of their products it should be made available for all users. Or at least make it so you can register the product on their website using the key or order number given when purchased. RE Thomason Jr.
October 22, 201114 yr Well that's rather silly, they have to know people buy their products from other sites than them and if they issue an update or a patch for one of their products it should be made available for all users. Or at least make it so you can register the product on their website using the key or order number given when purchased. I could not have said it better. In addition, It is a rather poor business practice and is not going to influence just where I buy. Like you, I have a Carenado account but it is of no value as all my plane purchases were from other stores. Neal Howard
October 23, 201114 yr I asked the Carenado support the same question: The answer I got was, that the patch is already included in the installers from e.g. Aerosoft (that's the place I bought the plane). Regards,Torsten
October 23, 201114 yr I bought mine from PCAviator on Oct 11 but there is no info on the site about whether the update is in the file or not. It doesn't make sense to re-download/install without knowing.Shame on Carenado Neal H. Neal Howard
October 23, 201114 yr Author It's simply not a good practice and they should know better! Make patches available for your customers who bought the product; period! I'm going to continue to buy my add ons from the same distributors as before the difference is I'm not going to be buying anymore Carenado products until they change their support stance/policy.I feel I deserve better than having to rely on the good nature of a fellow simmer to provide me a link to the patch Carenado should already be providing! RE Thomason Jr.
October 24, 201114 yr http://forum.avsim.n...ost__p__2102741says:You don’t need this Service Pack if you download the aircraft after September 7, 2011 at 1700 GMT.
October 24, 201114 yr Thanks ottor. It would be nice if Carenado had that info on its site. What REALLY gripes me is their statement:**This is a private update, so you need to log in first.** They want vendors to sell their products and then deny their customers product updates as they are done.I'm going to follow Blaze and find add-ons from other developers. October 26, 201114 yr I also have a lot of issues with Carenado support, they need to patch what they already have out there before they release new aircraft. Their kind of an aircraft mill with very little follow up and support. I no longer buy their aircraft!CheersMartin

Are your products copy-protected or use some form of DRM/product activation? Is something, even if it's only the installer, different than the OEM's products? Here's the deal: If the vendor you bought from applies any kind of DRM, then that changes the game. A lot. It's enough work to code a patch to work with your own product, but many third-parties like Steam add in their own code and tie it to their own service (which is the real reason for DRM, but I digress...) which means the OEM must code patches specific to those vendor's versions of the product as well as their own stuff. Many choose not to. The Steams don't seem to care because that'll just force people to upgrade to the next hot product anyway. It's a win-win for them and a lose-lose for the consumer. I don't know if that applies to your situation but I wanted to put it out there.Carenado's good though in that they don't use DRM or product activation of their own.
December 29, 201114 yr Author Mallen,Yes, I purchased the product via Simmarket and it does come with an activation code but it's not Simmarket's activation code it's the same code sequence as if I had purchased it from Carenado themselves. The problem I have is that Carenado only released the patch to the people who are registered on their website and the only way to register on their website is if you purchased the product from them.See Tigerclaw's reply above. When I purchase an Aerosoft product from Simmarket, whether they produced it or are just distributing it, I am still able to register it with Aerosoft and if a patch is released I have access to it. Carenado's stance seems to be that patches released are entitled only to the people who bought it directly from them until they decide they want to release it to the public. IMO this is asinine and enough to elect not to purchase anymore of their products until they provide a means of registering it for support, even if it was not bought directly from them. RE Thomason Jr.
January 27, 201214 yr I've purchased many of Carenado's aircraft and I don't like to hear that one of my favourite aircraft producers is upsetting its customers. I hope that they read this forum topic and realise that they are.It seem so easy to prevent such aggrevation:Step 1. Vendor releases the product directly to the public and/or distributes it through 3rd parties.Step 2. Vendor produces updates, advises all purchasers and distributors that the update is available on the vendor's website. On their website I see updates for Carenado aircraft at:http://www.carenado.com/CarSite/Portal/index.php?accion=updateLooking at the file names I see they are patches, service packs and blank textures which do not need log ins to access. If the update includes the whole aircraft then logging into the site from which it was purchased is required as proof of purchase. If the update is a patch and does not include the whole aircraft then there is no need to log in, anyone who has purchased the aircraft from any source should be able to update their aircraft without logging in. In either cases the vendor has an obligation to advise customers that an update is available, after all, a lot of folk are involved in producing updates and they are produced for the customers and it is nice to know that the company is keeping in touch with its supporters.Well that's how I would resolve this issue if I was running the sales dept. in order to retain good will and past customers.BTW, I've just logged in to my Carenado acct and found updates to my three most favourite aircraft; besides the C337 mentioned above, there are updates for the CU206G and C208B and the CU206 update was released Sep 2008. Judging by the file names these updates do include the whole aircraft and therefore require one to log in. Oh well, if nothing comes of this discussion, at least I have three updates that I previously knew nothing of so it's a happy ending for me regardless.GD Edited January 27, 201214 yr by GDNZ
