October 31, 201114 yr Hi allSome eight months ago my wife bought a new PC and it came with Windows 7 installed and she has tried hard to learn her way around it (Win 7) but hates it with a vengence lol. Can anyone tell me if it would be okay to wipe her Hard Drive and install her copy of Windows XP?. I am sorry if this post does not belong here but I did not know where else to put it.
October 31, 201114 yr Yes, it's ok. What exactly are you afraid of? Make sure you backup your stuff before you format your drive. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
October 31, 201114 yr Author Hi thanks for your speedy reply. I know nothing about windows 7 I still use XP which my wife would have had installed had I built her new PC. I guess I just wanted to be assured that's all. Thanks Linux.......John

But remember, you lost $100 in a Windows license unless you reactivate it on another computer. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
October 31, 201114 yr Author Anything to get rid of her frustration with Win 7 lol. Got to keep her happy she will never use Win 7 again after 46 yrs great years with her she gets what she wants if we have the dough lol......John. PS: I just wasted $76 bucks at Wilco to get both Airbus evo's. What a sham they are Grrrrr!! No Wilco again for me no matter what they have. John
October 31, 201114 yr Something to keep in mind is that Microsoft has already ended support (security & other updates) for XP with SP2, and will very likely end support entirely for XP in the not too distant future. This isn't the end of the world, just something to think about. Like lots of people, I still use XP myself.
October 31, 201114 yr Moderator You do know that you can switch Win7 to "Classic Mode" so that it more closely resembles the venerable old "Windows" GUI, right? Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
October 31, 201114 yr As N4GIX indicated, there's a whole raft of stuff you can do to make Win7 behave like XP, most of which I knew nothing about until last week when I had Win7 installed on my work PC. My daughter had Win7 on her last PC and despised it because it's so ugly. I agreed with her entirely until I had to suffer it myself and spent the better part of a day discovering how to hide the fact that it's Win7. I think I like it now.It was only by trial and error I discovered simple things like right clicking on the desktop, selecting view and choosing 'small icons'...! Why don't MS advertise such things? Most of us are seriously allergic to obligatory change! Now if only I could persuade my employer to revert to Office 2003 instead of the horribly non-intuitive 2007.D
October 31, 201114 yr Author Thank you one and all for your replies I sometimes spend some of my time just reading threads in this and other forums. One never knows what you will discover, so many pearls of wisdom (smile). There seems to be quite a few people who have problems with Win7 and flight simming. Personally I will stick with XP as long as I can, if it ain't broke don't fix it so to speak. And I never ever needed Microsoft's help anyway so no loss there for me.Thanks again one and all............John
November 2, 201114 yr If it were me, I'd buy a second hard drive and install XP to that, take the drive with W7 out and save it. Sell it or give to someone who can use it rather than waste it. You've already made up your mind that you hate W7, and that's fine, but there are also plenty of folks that have had no problem with it. They don't post about problems because they have none. My wife has Office 2010 and likes it much better than her old Office XP. I work with XP, Vista, and W7. I have no problem getting around on any of them. There is a long list of things I like better about W7. Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
November 2, 201114 yr I have to agree with Bob...I,ve used FSX on XP SP3,Vista 32 and 64b and Win7 64 and I have had no problems with Win7 ...
