October 31, 201114 yr Probably because DX10 has no AA and other image quality things - it's broken, I would not use it.Ryan, I completely forgot about that. But I do remember testing DX10 out a long time ago and wondered why my FPS was so much better but then I realized the AA was not on and FSX looks horrible without Antialiasing. Not sure if the Anisotropic Filtering is off in DX10 too? But DX9 looks great with Combined 8XS and 16XAS using nhancer and enbseries mod. Paul Deemer
October 31, 201114 yr I don't remember what was th original settings of my sim, The first time I've installed it, without touching settings, DX10 was very fast istead of dx9. I've then changed resolution to my display res, played wit settings, and I must try to come back to dx9, but I'm pretty sure I will dislike it. Regards Andrea Daviero
October 31, 201114 yr Exactly as I was remembering....Tried an experiment, at my current DX10 setting I loaded the same flight with DX9 (no AA no AS) with same other settings and the result (after one minute of view panning to let te sim loads completely) was a framerate of 12-25fps, with an average of 14-16.Tried the same with dx10 preview and apart of a better look (without filtering in dx9 the image is orrible) I get a result of 19-32 fps with an average of 22-24.Both tests were made with RYR b738wl, at libp airport, with shade loaded GEX and other add ons installed as libp scenery (not a very complex scenery). November 1, 201114 yr What about DirectX 11?Not for FSX. Full support is only available for DX9. DX10 was the "preview version" as indicated where you select it "On" or "Off." DX11 compliant cards/drivers work because of the backwards capability. So, DX11 brings nothing to the FSX table. FSX will forever live in FS9 for full compatability. Herman Ross Seattle, USA

If Directx 11 is "backward compatible", as you say, that sounds like it does bring something to the FSX table, namely compatibility. Ryan indicated, above, that DX10 was not compatible, but my DX 11 seems to run the NGX. I am in need of squeezing every frame-rate I can from my weak system so my question is, do I need to look at running DX9? Jeff Johnson (RWS)

If "DX10 preview" is off, you're in DX9, regardless if your card and drivers are DX 10, 11 or whatever's next. If you have the "DX10 preview" as an option, that's an indication that your card and drivers are DX10 or later. However, it's a "preview" and causes most people more trouble than it's worth, as other posters such as Tabs have noted. When I said DX11 brings nothing to the FSX table, I was referring to anything that you wouldn't get with a DX10 card in either of the 2 modes or a DX9 card in FSX non DX10 preview.Of course, with a newer card, you generally get better speed, because the GPU is faster, but it's not nearly the effect as with a true DX10 or DX11 compliant game. Sorry if I misled you there. maybe it would have been better if I wrote "it brings nothing new to the table."Ryan may well speak for himself here, but when people say FSX programs are not "DX10 compatable," they usually mean that the FSX DX10 preview mode causes problems with the program that can be corrected simply by turning preview mode off. That's pretty common, for example, for many add-on airports. Ryan's actual quote of, "Probably because DX10 has no AA and other image quality things - it's broken, I would not use it." probably means nothing more and nothing less. Herman Ross Seattle, USA
