Kg vs Lbs

Featured Replies

I use whatever the carrier I fly with use. So US companies I use lbs, but I fly mostly in Europe so its kgs most of the time.

Well, I can remember when the metric system was introduced in Britain in the 60s and they are still suffering... Whistle.gif

Still lots of thing dispatched in pounds in Canada...i'm 'pretty sure' WestJet dispatches in pounds, not too sure about AC. My experience shows lots of other smaller operators are still in imperial (much to the chagrin of European AME's/Pilots)

Westjet pounds, AC kgs. At least that's what flight deck vids I've seen lead me to believe... happy.png

Metric is the way forward over here in Europe... odd that it never seemed to hold for altitudes though ;)Andrew
The last IVAO Belgium LAN party, we were "located" in Poland and there we had a big surprise: Final approach altitudes were in meters, while all other chart-altitudes were in feet. You can imagine the GPWS wasn't too happy with us. angry.pngAfterwards we saw that it was clearly stated on the charts though. But honestly, which desktop-pilot reads the warnings? Seems like the Russians are the only ones who are consequent in this regard... Whistle.gif...
Actually, the Russians are switching to feet for altitude very soon, possibly next month, or perhaps 2012

China uses metric altitudes as well doesn't it? Certainly used to.Kevin Hall

All vis in the UK is reported in meters, RVR or otherwise.
I stand corrected, but visibility used to be given in miles in the 1990s IIRC. Kilometers would make more sense for visibility than meters though. Kevin Hall

Maybe, not anymore! As for kilometers/meters, meh, all the same. Just add or remove 3 zeros!

It would be nice if all standardized. For Brazilians ideally a metric system, because since we are born we learn to think about it.A step about 3 times higher than normal is 1 meter, milk is sold in liters, 1 liter of pure water weighs 1 kilogram, our signposts on the road use the kilometer for distance or speed,We are also difficulties in making conversions meters to feet...etc.And seems the story of the Tower of Babel.João Alfredo

In METARS you'll find meters (e.g. EGKK 012050Z 17004KT 9999 FEW023 09/08 Q1013, where '9999' stands for visibility > 10km)
