November 3, 201114 yr When running the AivlaSoft Electroinc Flightbag together with the NGX, FSX frequently (sometimes three times on a short flight from EHAM to EGKK) freezes up ("Not responding" message in the title bar, and window goes misty when clicked; must use Task Manager to stop FSX). This doesn't happen with the NGX without the EFB, and I have just made a quick flight in the Level D 767 with EFB and there were no problems there.I have Win-7 64bits with Ultimate Traffic II as the only other addin. November 3, 201114 yr PeterThis is a well documented issue on the EFB forum. you will also notice that you wont see any online traffic whilst using the NGX and EFB. As far as we (EFB beta testers) can ascertain, The NGX from PMDG seeks an enormous amount of data from SimConnect, so much so that Simconnect simply gets flooded. EFB also uses Simconnect to request data for the EFB display unit and the combination of the NGX and EFB simply produces an exception handling error and will crash your sim.The developer of EFB has invited PMDG to discussions but to no avail from what I understand. If you wish to learn more about this situation I suggest you have a look at the EFB forums.Wycliffe Barrettp.s. a number of workarounds have been suggested by EFB users but they are very hit and miss in relation to success. My 2 cents worth, I suggest dont fly the NGX with EFB. (bummer)
November 3, 201114 yr I have never seen this myself using the EFB. Even with ASE running at the same time, which also uses Simconnect. I have done all of my flights with the NGX using the EFB and never has a problem, from short legs to long ones (longest being Hawaii to LAX)To be clear, it is the sim that is crashing right? Not the EFB? I should add I run the EFB on a laptop. I just want to know what to look for to see if I see the same error that seems to be so common. November 3, 201114 yr Author This is a well documented issue on the EFB forum.Hello Wycliffe,Thank you very much for this clear exposition. I had indeed looked at the EFB forum, and seen the references to SimConnect, but had not realised that they referred to this problem. To be clear, it is the sim that is crashing right? Not the EFB?Hello Scott,Indeed; it is the sim that freezes up (on my desktop computer); EFB keeps working. I can sometimes complete a short flight, but not often. Only option is to save the flight every ten minutes or so, and then go back to the last save. Peter Davis
November 3, 201114 yr Is there any chance perhaps that a close future add on will bring a PMDG EFB as originally seen in the NGX manual ?

Although I am pretty sure this will happen flying offline with EFB and the NGX. One thing for sure is that the creators of Simconnect (ACES) really didn't understand how works themselves based on some of the discussions that have taken place.I don't doubt for one moment what you say is true but for those of us who have this issue it is very real and very frustrating. As youhave indicated it isnt just EFB and PMDG that use simconnect, there are lots of other programs that use it and simple the more you have on the more likely it is that your sim will CTD, (go grey). As I said in my post above the simpl solution is not to use the PMDG NGX with EFB. A shame as I believe EFB to be the premier flightplanning tool on the market. Things might change with EFB V2 when it comes out.Wycliffe
November 3, 201114 yr Quoting Wycliffe ".....you will also notice that you wont see any online traffic whilst using the NGX and EFB"To be honest I must be lucky because I can see some IVAO online traffic from time to time, rather close to my position, and for short periods of time (current EFB online traffic settings : horizontal range 0 (0 means max) and vertical range 10000 ft, and I'm not experiencing long freezes with the NGX (except one today whith the NGX 737 700 WL i'm flying for the first time).

I don't know about IVAO, but I can confirm traffic is visible on VATSIM. I do have Active Sky Evolution and the EFB Display Unit running on a secondary PC. VATSIM: P2 | I1
November 4, 201114 yr Me too, SP1 seems to have solved the EFB traffic issue for me. However, I moved ASE from the client to the FSX machine so that may have been the cure. Brad Rich
November 4, 201114 yr Is working for me too, after SP1. I can see AI traffic as well as IVAO online traffic.Peter Peter Win10/64/32,0GB, [email protected], Gigabyte 1080ti, P3Dv5.1
November 6, 201114 yr Hi pilots,i, myself use EFB (SP5) with NGX since 3 weeks now, Together with REX2 (overdrive) and other Addons without ANY problems. That is before and after SP1 !!And thats > 30hrs of VATSIM flights, 1hr to 4hrs / flight.Actually never had any problems with the NGX AFTER I used W7/FSX cleanup recommendations available on AVSIM forums.I highly recommend to do these:http://www.simforums...topic29041.htmlhttp://forum.avsim.n...p0-conclusions/http://forum.avsim.n..._1#entry2127745and of coursehttp://www.venetubo.com/fsx.htmlIt will take you some time, but it is worth it !!see specsrunning with 25-30 (Frame limited) FPS at almost all (payware european) ADDON airports.Oliver --

I had the FSX frame limiter set to 30, and this was apparently causing the CTDs with the EFB. After changng the limiter to "unlimited" my problem disappeared, and I have recently made a number of problem-free flights with the NGX, Ultimate Traffic II and the EFB (including seeing the UTII generated traffic). November 9, 201114 yr It's totally bizarre how some users have AI traffic and some don't when using EFB.Sadly for me. I don't see ANY AI traffic when using EFB on a client, and the NGX:-(Both EFB and the NGX are seriously great addons. What a shame they can't 'hold hands' with each other. November 9, 201114 yr If it is indeed the FSX internal frame limiter, then that would explain it. I myself, having never had a CTD or sim freeze caused by the EFB, use the java fps limiter and have the FSX internal one set to unlimited. May be on to something here.
