Hi,Well I got ATC working pretty well. I managed to log a flight plan, taxi into position and take off.1. Tune ATIS 118.02. Get clearance 128.03. Request taxi 119.94. Follow the taxi helper line to your holding point5. Cleared takeoff6. Departure 119.2....then lose control b/c 10 mins is up :)
Perhaps it only works at ksea? I was able to get it there to work but not kbfi...

It was also reported that some COM freq's were wrong. As usual with X-Plane 9, those updates to airport data and layout will be available nearly monthly on http://data.x-plane.com/ .

You can click on the airports on the local map and a popup will tell you all relevant data.Jan

ATC worksPress ENTER and then enter a flight plane - at a minimum you just need to enter destination airport and altitude. If you do not enter a starting airport, you'll get to pickup your flight plan once airborne. If you enter a starting airport, you have to get clearance before leaving. Click on FILE FLIGHT PLANNOTE: you must tune the radios to the correct frequency (just as you do in the real world). You'll find the frequencies on the local map by clicking on the airport icon). Frequencies are being reviewed and updated to be the same as the real world, so you could use real charts and airport information to get the frequencies. After tuning the frequency - press ENTER - to bring up the menu options for contacting ATC on that frequency. Now go to the Clearance Delivery frequency (if there is one), if there isn't, then go to ground or tower in that order. Get your clearance, read it back, then contact ground to taxi. Taxi instructions will be provided to the active runway and yellow line will appear to take you to the runway. A nice feature is you need clearance to cross runways while taxiing. This works at any airport in the demo area. I went to CYYJ (it warns there is no scenery, but there is - the demo just about covers CYYJ). Of course, with 10min demo time, I just about managed to get lined up on the runway before being booted out. So can't tell you anything about my experience with ATC beyond that - but centres are included - so hand off to departure is part of it. Does not support SIDS and STARs (yet). From what I understand, a lot will be done to improve ATC in the version releases over the following months. Filing VFR flight plans (and presumably flight following) is supported but not an option in the demo. Finally - if you don't like the onscreen text, you can turn it off under "sound" options. I have it turned off because it makes it much more real - I keep a pencil close at hand (as I did when using Radar Contact in FSX and FS9).

I have the ATC working ok. But I found it to be very annoying, so I switched frequencies (turning it off).Maybe I'm doing something wrong (or need to adjust a setting). If not, Center is in serious need of a delay. When it gives an altitude change, it doesn't give you nearly enough time to change your altitude before it repeats the command. This wouldn't be so bad it it only applied to my plane, but it also affects the AI aircraft. This results in loops of repetitive chatter between Center and the AI that can lasts for a couple of minutes. And I'm only using 2 AI aircraft (due to my older system). What would this be like with 20 AI aircraft?

Bumping an old thread instead of starting a new one...I generally understand how the ATC system works (the recently updated XP10 manual has a very good explanation), but I'm mystified about what exactly is supposed to be entered into the "Route" box. The manual states very briefly that "you could also enter any NDB/VOR/FIX/Airway to get real routings", but I don't know what that means. Do I just type "NDB, VOR, etc." and the software will figure out the routing for me, is there a specific name for each nav that I'm supposed to use, do I enter frequencies? I have no idea.

Yes, this was a mystery for me too. There was some ATC when I first started the demo, which I thought sounded pretty good. But I can't seem to get them to work again. It'll be interesting to see what third party developers can do with localised voices, for the UK etc...Oh really...can you point me in the right direction Geof?
You have to put in the proper radio frequencies, in the com radio. You all probably already know how to find these frequencies, but for some who may not know go to the map, click the airport that you are at, look at the pop up box, It lists all of the frequencies for that airport. Don't be slow on the read back or the controllers, may get confused, start doubling your transmissions. I've seen this in real life too, getting stepped on. LOL ATC isn't perfect, (I've heard that a few times in other sims also, still good fun and get some radio practice.Does anyone know how to change the voices though, my pilot is a female, I would prefer to be a male. All of the controllers I have heard so far are male, although I have just barely started ATC, Did a practice run last night from KPWA to KSHO, so is hardly enough to be definitive.

I have to confess I only got it to work once. One problem is what do you do if you have multiple ground/tower freqs (atis should give you the approariate clearance freq anyway-clearance should tell you to contact ground on whatever, and ground should tell you tower and of course your departure freq should be given in the clearance.I've had very quirky results where I get to the active and then can't contact the tower. This seems in its infancy-hopefully it will get better. (and what is with the p1,p2,p3 etc..?).

Don't worry about annoying Arwen, it is sometimes annoying in real life too. I know pilots that hanger their aircraft 50 miles from a class B, or C airspace for that very reason. They don't want to put up with controllers. These are the people that generally don't file a flight plan too.

So about my question, what exactly do I enter in the "Route" box when filing a flight plan? I suppose this is obvious to real-world pilots, but since I'm not one, it has me stumped.

Not so Mountain Man, real world pilots have to make a phone call. LOL.gif In the box for Departure box key in the ICAO code for the airport you are at, Example where I am is KPWA, then in Destination box, type the ICAO code for the airport you want to go to, example, KSHO put in the altitude you want to fly at, in thousand, or hundreds of feet MSL, mean sea level, example 5,500 if you are going east 6,500 if you are going west. Actually any numbers in feet will work. You don't have to put anything in route box, unless you want to, VOR NDB or Intersection fixes go here, don't worry about that untill you get up and running with it.Before you file that plan, have the proper frequencies in your radio.
