December 5, 201114 yr Just noticed on the Simmarket website that REX is being sold at 50% off on all products, not just for FS9. So if anyone is still debating if they should buy it then I would, in my opinion certainly say yes, especially if they do not have a weather engine programme already installed.Unfortunately for me I should have waited a little longer (if only I had known about this sale!), as I was up until quite recently debating if I should buy this product which I did in the end and have not regretted it, that was only about a couple of months ago which I paid full price so as you can imagine I am gutted knowing I could have got it half the price if only I had waited a bit longer. Oh well, never mind.... Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Packard Bell imedia S3210. AMD Athlon II X 3 425 Processor 2.70 GHz. 3 GB RAM. External hard drive 1TB. FS9.1, Ground Environment, Ultimate Terrain Europe, REX, Zinertek's Ultimate Water Advanced & Ultimate Night Environment 2010, WOAI, MAIW, AES, ODG Project.

December 5, 201114 yr Author Is it well spent money even if you already haveFS elemental natural pack? The free Real Environment pro? What does it offer in addition th these?Errr, pass. I honestly don't know as I do not have those products. I am just stating that REX is half price if anyone is considering purchasing it. Maybe someone else reading this can answer your questions? Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Packard Bell imedia S3210. AMD Athlon II X 3 425 Processor 2.70 GHz. 3 GB RAM. External hard drive 1TB. December 6, 201114 yr I own both for FS9 and for FSX and I can honestly say it transforms the sim.Everything looks so much better and I am still in awe of FS9 ever since purchasing REX for FS9 2 years ago.It has to be seen to be believed. And their customerservice is great as well.cheersJP.
December 9, 201114 yr For $17.50 too. I have it for FSX and still cannot get through all that they offer.
December 9, 201114 yr I have tried FS Elemental and of course used RE Pro in the old days. No comparison mate. Unlike RE Pro, especially with the free OD version, it is a full 1024 HD environment and unlike FS Elemental it is not just a texture fix. REX is totally configurable via a comprehensive control panel and provides a complete environment with thousands of possible combinations: of ocean and inland water shade, contrast and tone, of runway textures, lighting, sky, cumulus and cirrus clouds, and allows independent selection of dawn, day and dusk presets, as well as the saving of complete user configured themes. (hope I haven;t missed anything) - oh yes and its own weather engine! It is also far more advanced and subtle than RE Pro in combination with its own weather, or ASE which I use for example, it looks fantastic. To be honest I do sometimes combine it with Zinertek Advanced Water, but that's a personal preference - FS9 water has considerable limitations compared to FSX. I'd also recommend GE Pro2 for ground textures if you don't already use them.FS9 is no longer FS9.1, it is FS9.9. And no, I don't work for REX.Hope this helps.Ray
December 9, 201114 yr Well, this is quite a gamble now that we know the new ASA 2012 will be released soon with about the same offer and a weather engine that works!Food for thoughts...
December 9, 201114 yr Whats ASA 2012?? I have been out of the fs loop for about a year give or take.Im slowly getting back in it.never mind, looked it up, however only looks to be a fsx product, so i may purchasrex at the 50% discount. ;) Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.
December 10, 201114 yr Well spotted Gerry, it is indeed for FSX only, my mistake and my apologies to those I - involuntarily - misled! This came from the page of SimFlight where both Zinertek and ASA 2012 were advertised next to each other, one (Zinertek) is for both platforms and the other (ASA2012) is FSX only... When too much information kills information! Then the 50% discount on REX FS2004 is certainly an excellent deal (I regret to have rushed buying it on release...)Have a great week-end!
December 10, 201114 yr it is indeed for FSX onlyBut only initially. Damian posted they are working on FS9 compatibility.Anyway REX is a wonderful addon plus the two don't exlude each other. Quite the opposite.

BTW I have bothh GEPRO II and Zinertek advanced water and also REX for FSX. Regarding clouds so have XPLane 10 made me very interested with its realism. So I wonder is it a good idea to spend money on FS9 addons at a time like this? I use FSX for VFR and smaller planes and my intention was to use FS9 for IFR and airliners.
December 11, 201114 yr Hmm, I guess it's a question of how many babies you want to feed.Although REX is excellent it cannot correct the main shortfalls of FS2004 compared with FSX eg: higher res ground textures (7cm - 1m compared to 4m in Fs9), HD ocean field and sophisticated sea reflections, subtler flight dynamics, round world etc, density of autogen and more sophisticated light and shade environment. However if FS2004 is still important enough to you then REX is a must - esp at half price. If it isn't, forget it.Ray

December 12, 201114 yr Michael K. Zyskowski (Micorosoft FS designer), in his 2003 paper quotes flight dynamics as follows: "The SimEngine is based on the core concept of simulating in the 6-DOF space (rotational – pitch, rolland yaw; and translational – longitudinal, lateral and vertical forces). This model has not basically changed, probably since at least FS2000. All MS sims use geometric flight modelling, as opposed the parametric approach adopted by X-Plane. The FSX/FS9 6DOF environment determines the programmatic limitation of aircraft behaviour in their respective FDEs (the .air file), whereas X-plane has no flight dynamics itself, it is the plane that provides and determines all of the characteristics and physics of flight and the airflow across the plane's control surfaces, wings and fuselage.Having said that I believe that FSX SDK came with several improvements which removed some of the programming limitations for aircraft designers. As I am not a plane designer I do not know exactly what they were, however this resulted in it being easier for them to provide FDE's which improved the subtlety and 'realism' of the experience, that could be built into a plane's .air file and consequent improvement in the way a plane responds to wind, speed, turbulence and reaction in different phases of flight. This did not apply so much to planes upgraded from FS9, but native FSX planes do show a degree of subtlety and realism that is rare and certainly much more difficult to program in FS9 planes. Those FS9 planes that did have good dynamics (eg PMDG's commercial jets, Airsimmer Airbus etc) required a lot more bespoke coding and hence took longer to release and often had a lot of bugs to start with, most others were more often like flying on rails. Do not confuse this with the way the plane responds to the checklist, V speeds, climb, stall speeds etc, even default planes often do that reasonably well in normal flight at least,FSX in combination with Ezdok which provides cameras, amplifies head movement plus ground and air turbulence effects, is a different ball game from FS9 (even with Active Camera which is a must for FS9)Hope this helps. Others out there may be able to correct, improve or add to this - I'd also be interested to know that too. Good question though.Ray
