December 7, 201114 yr As much as I dislike and fear drunk drivers, I'm also a bit concerned about the whole idea that you not only lose your license for a while (good) but now public opinion demands your job as well.As we have seen on numerous occasions, forcing our public officials to be choir boys and rejecting those with minor blemishes has resulted in some real losers in important jobs, while far more capable individuals are not even given the opportunity to get the job done right.
December 8, 201114 yr I think having the possibility of killing someone if he continued would be a little more than a 'minor blemish'. Chris Miller
December 8, 201114 yr I think having the possibility of killing someone if he continued would be a little more than a 'minor blemish'.Yes, but that's why you take away his license, not his job.
December 8, 201114 yr It's not like he was just a little bit over the limit and got unlucky after having a couple glasses of wine in under 2 hours. The man was driving down the wrong side of an interstate. That is not minor reaction impairment drunk, that is dangerously drunk. To have the head of an agency, which routinely displays zero tolerance to the pilots it oversees, keep his job after such an ordeal is unfathomable. December 9, 201114 yr Yes, but that's why you take away his license, not his job. When his stance is zero tolerance then it makes perfect sense. Chris Miller
December 9, 201114 yr Yup^. How can we expect responsible behavior from someone who can't even responsibly drink. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
December 9, 201114 yr It's not like he was just a little bit over the limit and got unlucky after having a couple glasses of wine in under 2 hours. The man was driving down the wrong side of an interstate. That is not minor reaction impairment drunk, that is dangerously drunk. The original articles says "road," not "interstate," and the results of the blood alcohol test were not revealed in that article. If this is updated information, then it is important. If it's speculation, though, it's inappropriate. When his stance is zero tolerance then it makes perfect sense. The zero-tolerance policy is for flying, not for driving. That's why there is a statutory limit and not a zero-tolerance statute for driving.Yes, this shows very poor judgment. But, I would have to say that for all their faults, Jack, Bobby and even Ted Kennedy were far better leaders than self-righteous characters like Carter and Dubya. When you insist on personal perfection, you don't always give yourself the best choices.

December 10, 201114 yr You're in an administrator level job, get arrested for drunk driving (guilty or not) and don't even call your boss to give him a heads up? Yeah, resignation not at all a surprise. _________________________________ -Dan Everette CFI, CFII, MEI 7900X OC @ 4.8GHz | ASRock Fatal1ty X299 Professional | 2 x EVGA GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 (SLI) | 32GB G.Skill DDR4 2800
