Music in the air
These posts are repeated on a regular basis. Not only did we listen to AM radio tuned in by the ADF, we played chess, or took occassional naps. (or is it now called NDB?)db.

Unfortunately, when clicking on the link, I get "File Error 404". There are two links, but both show the error. I'll try again later see if there's a change.

Ahhhhh. I do that a lot. I'm a teacher. Sure sorry. My wife (Julie) gets kindof mad when I roll over in a dream at 3 in the morning and say, "Ohhh, Claudia." She really doesn't like it on accassion when I roll over and say, "ohhh, D..."

Guy deserved what he got. Too bad they didn't get rid of him sooner. A lot sooner. Decades. Guy comes from the bottom of the pit. Check out his history.db.

APU (GEN) OVERSPEED?
Recently stated the APU and continued thru the checklist. However, at some point, looked at the overhead panel and just below generator switches on the right side in red letters was "OVERSPEED." I don't remember whether or not was also APU or GENERATOR or not. Is this actually programmed into the panel? If not, why- or how- was it there?db.

Ground power wait?
Here is a maybe or two: sometimes the memory doesn't clear and load, sometimes a gauge doesn't load. Close FS, wait aminute, and open again. And I always load the TM with the engines shut down, let the panels load, then immediately turn off the baattery, starting cold and dark. After the battery switch is on, I request ground power. It seems to me tho that it takes more than 30 seconds, but I really don't know. And It seems to me that sometimes FS just decides to have a glitch, for no known reason.Maybe somebody else has a better solution.lr.

Panel CFG's
I suppose the SP77Basic ans SP177Basic is for different auto-pilots, and the SP77BasicCIVA and SP177CIVA is for 2 different INS sytems. Is that correct? Could you give me the basic diffeences between them.Thanks,db.

Fuel Dump - when and why?
Also: a/c designed to fly shorter distances, typically have no dump capability- the lang gear is strong enough to landle landings at T.O. weights in order to prevent having to take on fuel at every stop- wasting time. Long distance a/c T.O. heavy, burn fuel, and are much lighter at the destination, requiring a landing gear that will handle less sress- much cheaper. Therefore, they require a means to lower weight in an emergency.

Air France Accident Report
Yes, Michal, you are "just a mere PPl." So, your "should have been" is worth about, well, you know. Pretty easy, flying that C152, or 210, or whatever, isn't it? I remember my private days well. Fly in good wx, never tired, never sick- yep, pretty easy. Further more, the report stated that they had not been properly trained (no training) in high altitude stalls, nor high altitude hand flying. On the other hand, that's pretty typical. Most company SOP's require pilots to use the automatics except when rotating and flaring, (to keep the statement simple). A number of companies required pilots to show hand flying ability in the sim, but when it was obvious they couldn't, due to company SOP's, the requirements were eliminated. It's usually quite obvious where the final blame will be put, and the prties that will be absolved.db.

Landing Rate
0 rate touch downs are easy in FS. The acars system records fpm descents. If you actually landed (in FS) with a real 0 rate descent on a down sloping runway, you would show a fpm descent in acars. However, you can actually crash into an upsloping runway at level flight, and show a 0 fpm descent. Don't believe me? Check it out, like in some of the Alaskan airpòrts.

Climb & Descent
Props "blow" over the wings- jets don't.

RMI's
In the real airplane (B727) you can use either radio and either needle for the ADF/Vor. In FS, it depends on how the programer did it.db.

Big Bully?
"...taxiing at high speed..." Apparently he it was computed that the AF was taxiing at 9kts. The idea that the video had been speeded up came out about 2 weeks ago. It had been speeded up. So, it would appear that that accusation can be tossed into the garbage.db.

Working- vers. Spare-Time of Pilots
1) Bored? You bet. Same thing, day after day, night after night, routine, it gets boring at times.2) Naps, apparently much more comman than most people think.3) Any flight over about 2 1/2 hrs, we genrally pulled out the ches board. Some had a little peg below the piece you stuck into the board, others were magnetic.DB.

Big Bully?
A couple of points: KevinAu, if you are flying RJ's for real, then certain comments of mine obviously don't apply to you- the point being there is a difference between airline flying for a living, and flying for fun, part-time, or whatever else. Many of the comments here are nothing more than naive statements based on any lack of reality in a real world. Your opinions are worth listening to. However, if you're ieda is that AF was taxiing too fast, and that's it, I would be more into that as nothng more than one of many contributing causes. There was a statement about contacting the FAA with ideas. Sounds great. Kind of like a woman saying once after an accident that klled a small nmber of people that that airlines hire the experienced pilots. She is so naive. The FAA receives tons of potentially hazardous information and does nothing about it.DB..
