December 10, 201114 yr Among others SP1b improvments : "Fixed analog standby G/S indicator during backcourse approaches"Could you please be more explicite ?AFAIK, backcourse approach mode is not implemented in the NGX AFCS/AP and G/S is inop de facto while flying such back-beam apch. Wrong or right ?So what did you fix exactly ? Many thanks

December 10, 201114 yr Commercial Member There was a problem with the G/S indicator doing crazy things when doing a backcourse approach - backcourses don't have a glideslope, so it should not have even been active. That was fixed. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
December 10, 201114 yr Author "Backcourse modelled ? Oh yes it is ! PS. Yikes 60's relic in a 21st century aircraft"relic yes but still in use except in Europe !!Anyway you don't really answer my question and I can't see any BC button anywhere
December 10, 201114 yr Author "On stby gyro, probably"yes there is an APP mode and a BC mode on the stanby attitude indicator (both analog and digital models) but it's just a monitoring device as it does not allow any engagement of the back-beam mode

If you're using the Stanby Gyro you're not going to have A/P, so there's no point, really. It's is for raw data approach on the standby instruments (i.e. a very bad day). Matt Cee

It's is for raw data approach on the standby instruments (i.e. a very bad day)"I agree ! and it confirms that BC mode is not modelled on the NGX (as the real one I guesss).I was told BC approaches are rather common in the US, right or wrong ?They are not in Europe (except for Loc outbound departures, see LFLB & LFLP for example) cause such BC approaches are considered dangerous. To fly such approaches the HSI needle must be directional wich means the HSI course must be set to the normal ILS front course while flying back course...
December 11, 201114 yr I believe the BC is modeled per the RW aircraft in that there is no "BC mode" for the F/D. If you were down to standby instruments, you could still fly a BC approach on the standby gyro and not have reverse sensing. That's all the knob is doing. In the States, we do have a fair number of BC approaches. In the 737, you can fly them, contrary to popular belief, in LNAV/VNAV or IAN if you've got it. Matt Cee
December 11, 201114 yr I just tried a backcourse and indeed it is available in the ngx.I also was looking for a bc button or someting like that and then found this post about the standby instrument. When I press app 2x there I get it in backcourse....The next thing too try out was to also use app 2x on the main panel and there I got a backcourse in the pfd first in yellow and later in green. The a.p. followed it but I only got confused in managing the vertical aspect and speed but that is the next thing to try out.In short: 2x the app button (below lnav and vor loc button) does the trick.Greetings from the netherlands.Maikel Rozemeijer.
December 11, 201114 yr There's plenty of BC's up in Canada, specially up in the North. FromWhat I gather, you basically fly them as raw data approaches, with the APP HSI flipped toThe normal front course an you'll get pseudo correct localised indications.Although BC's are going to the wayside, as lots of Nav Canada's new ILS installations no longer have reliable back course localised indications. The course must be set to the normal ILS front course 125° on 111.7 ITUS while flying back course HDG 305°
December 13, 201114 yr Author 1) works fine when flying a Loc BC inbound : when hitting the APP button B/CRS is displayed on the PFD in white first and later in green when the Loc is acquired2) doesn't work when flying a Loc BC outbound : VOR LOC is displayed in white instead of B/CRS when hitting the APP button. When the Loc is acquired the plane turn to intercept the ILS. This is normal behavior. It just demonstrates the lack of a specific BC mode to fly both inbound and outbound Loc BCOn the other hand, this BC mode seems not to be implemented in the RW 737 NG

Thanks
