New Flight Job Postings

Featured Replies

Are you saying that somebody with those qualifications would not be able to design a simplified flight simulator?Besides, everybody knows that job postings almost always inflate the qualifications for two reasons: 1) It prevents people who are obviously under-qualified from applying ; 2) Sure, they would love to get somebody with those qualifications -- that's basically their dream candidate -- but they'd gladly hire somebody who is sufficiently skilled and knowledgeable to do the job even if they don't meet the standards stated in the job posting.
You're trying to hard.

Zero chance this is on Xbox. You can stop trolling now.
I meant windows live user or whatever is it...
Yeah, this is obviously going to be an arcade game.
Well I cant see why Flight could not have about as realistic flight dynamics that FSX has, some systems modeled and still be arcade stylish game. And can we really say that default planes of FSX are realistic anyways? They have those systems modeled and making physics for FSX has taken some knowledge, but still default ones are just toys that are not too hard for average arcade gamer to learn especially if they put good in game tutorial there.Anyways I refuse to believe that its FSX replacement or anything near as long as there is no pictured from big jets and world outside Hawaii, or clear statement that they will have either of those.

So was FSX an arcade game?

The evidence keeps mounting in favor of the game being at least as realistic a simulator as FSX, while no evidence at all points to it being an arcade game. Zero. Forgive me for not assuming the worst when there are clear signs to the contrary. The only argument that is legit to me is what coverage area there will be. If it were Hawaii only, God forbid, it would still not make it an arcade game. The future would be reliant on whether the rest of the world will be produced and for how much. The idea that the game is going to be Crimson Skies in Hawaii holds no water at this point. I'm not even sure where the idea started that this game would be dumbed down. There's just no evidence of that.

I wonder what cross-platform they are thinking about. The fact that they are actually thinking about this certainly raises some questions about what the final product is likely to be.

It means the new upcoming Xbox 720, a perfect platform for such a kind of arcade game.
It also leads me to think that Flight is still a lot further away than many of us think (hope).
It's my conclusion too, my guess is we'll not see it before fall 2012

boy, I'll jump on this having been the lead designer for flight unlimited III years ago... ..... hmmmmmm

7000+ hours total flying time / Sager NP9280 notebook / i7 950 3.07 / 6 Gig / GTX280M

I had many happy years flying that Beechjet 400A around the Seattle and San Francisco regions, Peter. In fact, Flight Unlimited 3 was the only flight simulator that I used between 1999 and 2008.

Why the jobs selection comes now when the game is already on its beta stage ?
I imagine it is for the production of ongoing content. The job advertisement in my view supports the notion that the game we will first see is indeed Hawaii and a few GA aircraft, but that expansion content wil be made available on a semi regular basis.

You could be right but the addons or expansions production will depend on how much Flight will sell and I doubt it will sell enough starting without addons or expansions that could potentially bring the world outside Hawaii.MS decided to quit the production of Train Simulator 2 when the game was pretty much finished despite the high potential audience......so, Flight future is already extremely uncertain.

The first job posting for the Aircraft Simulation Engineer seems like a good omen for continued development of a serious "simulation" aspect to Flight (as opposed to suspicions that it will become more "game" than simulator). However, the posting for a Creative Lead seems like bigger news to me so late in the development timetable (beta testing and first public preview at CES). I'm wondering which of the following three caused the lead position to go to hire: conflict, change, or expansion? Just wondering. I hope the new lead recognizes the passion that so many of us have for the simulation aspect of the software. And, here's hoping that we get some concrete information from Tom in the next week or so about Flight based on his visit to MS. I trust we'll also get news from CES attendees and press. It's going to be an interesting few weeks. Oh, almost forgot, happy holidays.p.s. Off topic: Just for fun, I downloaded the new X-Plane demo. Mixed feelings. I like Meyer's "plausible world" paradigm and, to his point, the detailed structures and vehicles were impressive in the demo. However, disappearing highways, a not-yet-mature ATC environment, and an unrealistic panel were not impressive to me. Just one person's opinion. Happy new year, too.
