CP FLIGHT MCP PRO connection issues ?

HI guys....The saga continues :)CPF are now back on the problem and hopefully we find a solution.I removed all software, ran a registry checker and1: only plugged in the MCP to the USB (no software). USB picked up the MCP (blip), but that was it2: I then installed 327 software only (no drivers). 3: I then plugged in power packSame issue.Personally I think it's something to do with the serial/USB interface as the CPF reference in device manager is located in the USB section and the serial/usb section has a question mark and states no drivers installed. COM port does not change (COM!). There should be a COM3 port allocated to CPF and this is not being installed for some reason, Iain

are all your COM ports enabled in the BIOS? this was my issue with my aerosoft MCP and USB connectivity

Good thinking, kand. A very likely answer.

IainMy friend has emerged from the Christmas wrapping paper and says this:Iain should look in his BIOS, normally under advanced settings for “Plug & Play O/S – Yes or No”. It should be set to NO so that the BIOS configures the hardware and not Windows 7. Thanks for your screen shot. Judging from this I would suggest that in conjunction with the above, Iain deletes from his device manager, the CPFlight Serial Adapter, the USB Serial Port and then reboots his PC. I would then need to see his new device manager screen shot if it still fails.I hope this helps.

according to nick needham you should always fill in plug and go=yes.i had more or less the same problem and I could solve it by finding the port 3 device which was in my case CN-116 fromSitecom which has an extra software tool for the interfase between the usb and serialport device. In your case look on the device the number of code .Just before the usb plug there should be another connection device which has a number on it.may be i am wrong but give it a look.

HiProbably a "beginner" computer question, but where do I find the bios on a win 7 64 bit PC ?I spend an hour or so searching but cannot seem to find it.I googled it & there seems to be several responses - I want to ensure I don;t mess with something that will cause a problem :(Thanks, Iain

Hi IainYou are wise to be cautious. It would be best if you learned that from someone you can observe. I thought you were going back to your retailer. He should know how to do all that. You get into the BIOS on boot up, but I hesitate to tell you how. It is an area the 'novice' shouldn't mess with.I will get my friend to link into this thread. He may feel comfortable guiding you.

Hi FrankI thought it was on start up. Yes, I'd prefer to know exactly where I'm going if I'm going to open this section of my PC. I've messed too many times with things I knew little about and caused major headaches. I am more careful now :)My computer guy is off to January 2 :(Interestingly, I tried the set up this morning again and guess what - everything worked perfectly (bar the altitude - but I was on the ground). But on re-boot the PC lost the driver file. I now cannot replicate the MCP working. I'm convinced that the issue is drivers or something to do with serial USB port.Thank you, Iain

Hi Iain,Frank asked me to try and help. I need to ask if you could confirm that your MCP is connected to your PC via a standard USB cable or via a serial to USB adapter? if you are not sure, just post me a picture.Regards,Ted.

Hi Ted - Thank you for your time and help. I do appreciate it.The MCP is the CP Flight MCP PRO version. This is the MCP that has a standard USB cable. I have replaced with USB cable with a new belkin cable to eliminate the possibility of a faulty cable. Cheers, Iain

Hi Iain,From what you have said it is a pure USB connection. Please could you go into "Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsSystem" and then select your Device Manager. Within Device Manager, locate the COM port that is failing and delete it. Also delete the CPFlight Serial adapter.Next shutdown you PC and move the MCP USB connection to another USB on the back of your PC. Restart your PC and then Check back in Device Manager and let me know the outcome. The COM port should be recreated automatically.Regards,Ted.

Hi Ted:http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/3816/latestimagegrabdec30.jpg Did as you suggested. When you restart PC it remakes the com port but under a different number stating CPF in universal bus and in COM port. When you run CPFlight software tester you get two info box pop upsinternal error retrieving device control block. Then after you write COM 3 into the software tester, the message run time error port open.Same thing always occurs. Cheers, Iain

after you write COM 3 into the software tester
You should open FSX, then click on FSCom and scroll to Com4 (not 3). Click on OK and the small window should slide out of sight when it has engaged and the MCP has come alive.

Hi Frank, Ted & others:First, thank you very much for your untiring assistance. But, after spending many hours attempting to get the MCP working I'm at the end - there does not seem to be a way to get this device to operate. I hope CPF will help in the new year.I did as you suggested. One step forward isthat PORTS now registers a CPFlight serial adapter (COM3). UNIVERSAL SERIAL has the CPFlight serial adapter. They stay where they are, unless I unplug the device. If I reboot the PC, the port is created again.Selecting COM3 gives a run-time error 8005 - port already openSelecting COM4 (in fsx or otherwise) gives an invalid COM port selected.Selecting COM3 in the test software does nothing. The MCP never lights up in FSX or the CPF test software. The MCP will light up initially providing the version number when plugged in.I know the hardware is fine as I've had the back lights and digits working once before.I hope Paolo can solve this issue. if not, it's time to go elsewhere.... Thank you. Happy 2012, Iain

Hi Iain,Thanks for the update. At least Windows 7 is now recognising your hardware correctly. I think that Frank is on the right lines and it is just a CPFlgiht FSComm configuration issue.Let us know what Paolo comes back with, as I would be interested in the fix.Have a good 2012 :¬)Regards,Ted.
