Track IR...

Ok guys, so I got one for Christmas - it's the 5 with the TrackClip Pro.What do I need to know? I tried it out a bit last night and the software's a tad overwhelming at first glance... The motion worked in FSX but felt sort of jerky to me and I found myself wanting something of a dynamic deadzone where once I stopped it would take more motion than normal to start moving again to eliminate that jitter as you're trying to hold a particular position.I'm gonna be using it mostly with FSX and DCS A-10C. Anyone have any profiles I could try out so I'm not going completely from scratch?

I can't believe you have not used TrackIR so far!Congrats on one of the most important hardware components for flight sims....As far as the profile, I suggest you learn the software and make your own as you will need to tailor it to suit your style and sitting position anyway.First make sure that the infrared sensors seen by the reciever are dead center in the display. Pan, tilt or adjust the position of the reciever to get the three IR transmitters dead center in relation to your sitting position. Also, it's best to try and get the reciever on a horizontal plane with your IR transmitters (trackclip pro). This way there is no angular offset and "TrueView" will work distortion free.Start with the default profile and edit the lines to include a deadzone. Sooner or later you will start to remove the deadzone as your interaction with the device becomes habitual. Also, through the TrackIR profile editor, map the Track IR "Pause" and "Center" command to two buttons on your stick or throttle. Then you can pan your view and freeze, "Pause", track ir to manipulate VC switches and buttons without the track IR jitter. With the center command mapped to a joystick button, you can also re-center the track IR to a, "staright foreward" head position without skipping a beat. All of this will become natural in a day or so.I would send you my profile, but I am using the trackIR 4 software instead of the 5 software as I find the older version to have much smoother panning and a smaller resource footprint on the system. Not sure if the 5 hardware works with the 4 software, but if it does I can send you my profile. Also, you can adjust your profile live with FSX running so you can imediatley see your results. Run FSX in windowed mode and have the profile editing window up ontop of FSX and then you can edit and apply the changes to quickly adjust your custom profile.TBH, a new user should be up and running with a custom profile in less than 15 minutes.Good luck.JB

Ryan, i would recommend to download the profiles that the AOA guys made for his videos, is great.I honestly don't remember where i get it from, but as soon as I get from work I can attach it here. Also there is 4 main buttons to operate the TrackIr. One to pause the movement, another one to center the view, and another (the most important for me) that will damp the movement of your head making the movements more smooth.

Agreed, the smoothing option is the first button I push when I start trackir, Smoothing should be turned on by default in my opinion, wish I knew away to have it on permanently. The pause button is the second most important feature so it's essential to have a button configured on your joystick or yoke, after a while using it will become second nature.Regards

Try the Seph Profile in the NaturalPoint forum, a lot of people find its a good setup for FSX. EZDok is a must have with it too. Then you set camera views and whatever that camera is pointed at, lets say the left window, your limits are the left side and right side of the left window and a bit beyond. Use a camera to look up at the switches above and choose to use TIR or not, but at least you`re no longer fighting to maintain your upward view because the EZDok camera locked it into the overhead. Saves craning your neck and holding that position for a length of time while also trying to fly a plane. Apart from that yes, get the button set up on the yoke to pause it as and when necessary. I had my TIR4 a year or two and hardly used it, even when the TIR5 software was released. Now with the addition of EZDok I never fly without using them both.Steve

I`ve just recalled this, my meds play havoc with memory. This isn`t my first outing with a Track IR type of erm, cough technology. My first attempt after lots of reading was a peaked cap to which I attached a home made loom of wires running around both sides then taped them up oh so professionally so they were sheaved. They led to a chassis at the front I made out of a wire coat hanger and stitched to the peak and the bit of the hat that sits on the forehead. Around one side, at the rear I made a battery box out of cardboard and added a set of connectors I soldered on to go to the battery. At the front I had some led lights or something, can`t recall just now. The camera was an old spare PC Cam and I had to break it apart to take out some part or other to make it work like a TIR. Then bung in some film negative to darken it-I had to get my Dad to send me some because I`m all digital. Home brew software off the net and I was away, yes it did work oh ye of little faith, even if a little intermittently.I also soldered in and on/off switch. If I`d gone in the airport with that on I sure would have been arrested, or shot! I still have the hat with all the wiring and lights on, kept it for posterity. But she doesn`t want it so I`ll have to take a close up pic of it sometime. The things we do for more realistic flights. I even sewed all the wires and the T shaped chassis to my good hat. :Hypnotized:Steve

As mentioned earlier, the "Seth Flight" profile is a good starting point. I'd recommend mapping the pause to clicking your mouse wheel, that works out quite well for me. Then you just pause TiR, do your clicking & unpause TiR without taking your hand off the mouse.

Ryan, I have a decent profile made for the NGX. That'll start you off. DCS is better left closer to the "over" sensitive defaults. Hopefully you're using EZDok in FSX, as it allows for readjusting of the seat position when using TrackIR without editing .cfgs.Here's my Profile: http://dl.dropbox.co...343355/Zach.xmlThere's more null zone on every axis, it works well for me. TrackIR profiles are hard to share succesfully, as everyone's distance to the camera, personal taste, and needs are different. The software is simple to use, so I suggest you devote 15 minutes of time per profile. If you have EZDok, I have a great profile I created for camera positions and head movement. Subtle but marked. I'll share that if anyone else want's it. Not that I use "CTRL- ` and Ctrl- 1 through 0 for my camera short cuts. The one that helps me the most is the HUD camera. No vibrations and nice and close. My favorite camera I set up is the First Officer camera.

This is my modified profile. I use it for all flight based simsgames. I also included my modified racing profile for games like Dirt2 etc.The biggest advice I can give for new users, is to give it time. I hated it at first with my wide set up, but now can't fly without it. You may get dizzy in the beginning and find yourself with your head tilted in all sorts of ways. Just be sure to map a button on your flight controller to center it. It takes time to remember you have that button, but it's a must. Ken already touched on the other importance of wanting to map a pause (or TR disable) hot key also on the controller. That too is a must. Also, at times you may find your view isn't perfect in FSX. What I do, is say I feel too close and don't want to modify my EZCA FOV, I just lean in toward the receiver, press the hot key for center and then sit back. Works great.Good luck, it's a real blast. Now maybe next Christmas you can get the "Buttkicker"! :(

It's easier to click the middle mouse button and press the down arrow. Lazy :( haha

Easier? Not at all. lazy? Middle mouse button option is out of the question for me anyway, but doing it the way I said gives a lot more possibilities of adjustments and a lot faster as well. Try it some day.

I used your method before the creation of EZDC, though.Even still: You can tap Numpad 2 and adjust with the arrow keys, then tap it again and it's set for good.Apparently I'm the lazy one.

Zach, I honestly don't like making a big deal over who does what, so don't do it to me, thanks. To each their own. I could always pick your posts apart too I suppose, but have better things to do. You're talking as if you have a better way but you're talking about something completely different than I am. Stop always trying to compete, my god. Tap your #2 then. I gave good advice, read it and be on your way unless of course you have an actual valid point to make which so far you haven't done other than say you choose a different way that gives a different result which has nothing to do with what I'm saying to begin with. I am talking about doing something totally different and in 99% of all cases there is no reason to change your EZCA settings like you prefer to do. That is a lot more work and very Very unnecessary. I'm talking about getting the occasional better "Field of View". You are not. We are talking about 2 different things. Please let me know if I should explain that point further for you. To break it down, my point is now that he has TIR, there are a lot of great uses for it, and a lot of users love the way you quickly change your FOV like I said.

Easy Dan. This is a forum. For conversation. If you don't want to play, don't.I do apologize wholeheartedly if I misunderstood something. Guess what, though? Your trick does the same thing as "middle button down arrow".I digress. Don't want to offend you.
