December 29, 201114 yr Noticed a product on AVSIM's front page today called Ultimate Airline Crew that will add crew briefing your PAX and so on. Currently I'm flying PMDG's NGX in SAS 'Freja Viking' livery exclusively to her real counterpart destinations and the chance to have a Swedish crew like IRL making announcements back in the cabin is really tempting.I've tried finding some samples of what it's like and what the voices sound like but haven't found any.Anyone tried this product yet and can give a short review of it?TIA,
December 29, 201114 yr only thing I can say is that the voices are computerized voices, I was hoping for an actual human recording. computerized voices bother me lol, but they are clear voices. you can download the English US soundpack on their website and open the zip file to hear them for yourself. Ultimate Airline Crew (US English Package) add on Joseph Harp
December 29, 201114 yr I just purchased it and it was a bear to get the voices installed and working properly. Tried a test flight and all seems to work okay. I found some voices are better than others so you need to test. Not sure yet whether I like it or not as I think I like XPAX a little better. I will give it some more testing though. It would have been nice if they had a readme that came with the package that immediately told you how to install the package. You have to move the voice packages over to the program folder before it can install the voice packages. It only installed one voice package (out of four) so had to manually install the others. I have a feeling many will not like this inconvenience. The voices are computerized and are not real. Best regards,Jim
December 29, 201114 yr Author Thanks guys for your quick replies, I think what you told me already is enough to make me not buying this product...especially when the voices are not real.Too bad because I would have loved to have "real" voice announcements in Swedish in my cabin :(
December 29, 201114 yr Devs who make crap products like Ultimate Airline Crew must think we are mugs. The lack of documentation and the install issues mean they have not even taken their own product seriously. I am very cautious what I purchase now, and only from well respected developers. They have to earn my money, just like I have too. December 30, 201114 yr I bought it, and as a native german speaker, I installed the german voice pack. Man, was I in for a laugh. The translation was like it was taken from translate.google.com - sometimes I didn't even know what the voice was saying.I posted a devastating review at Simmarket. Within an hour or so, I was contacted by the developer. He asked me if I could do the german translations for him.I agreed and spent an hour or two to write down the correct translation of the announcements (adding some austrian politeness to the texts ;-)).Another two hours after that the new voice pack was up for download. And I heard that the french one got or gets an overhaul, too.Apart from the computerized voices (which aren't too bad, by the way), the program isn't too bad. The author communicates the number of voices as the main feature - but I think the main feature is the fact that the insertion points for playing the texts during the flight are cleverly set. And that the program works with any plane. It would be nice if you could compile your own texts in the program - that would allow for some interesting adaptions. The output are plain .wav files, btw - I am going to process them i Cubase and make them more realistic (muffle them a little, EQ them and such things).Overall, the program is a pretty flexible solution, but not really refined.
December 30, 201114 yr Author Thanks for your input!I too was contacted by the dev who asked me if I could help him with the Swedish translation and would in a way have felt good being able to help make a product that the FS community can enjoy better but I don't really have the time since I'm already fighting to find time for actual flying and in the end I don't think you should advertise a product that clearly isn't a refined and finished product. The idea though to have these kind of announcements available in many different languages is a great one! Too bad though the voices are not real ones because that to me pretty much spoils the whole reality sensation.
December 30, 201114 yr Author Any other similar products that can be recommended??Yeah, I would be interested too because that is one of the things I'm missing at the moment in my otherwise superb setup with the NGX in combination with Aerosoft's AES which makes things on the ground so much more realistic with communication with the ground crew and you actually do get some cabin sounds as well with passengers boarding/deboarding but would be great to also hear the cabin crew running through the safety briefing, letting you know when the cabin is secured for take off/landing etc etc.I think when a developer can come up with a product that does all this in a good way and using real voices in several different languages they have a good chance to make some $...at least I know I would buy such a product instantly :(
December 30, 201114 yr WebMax: - I found HiFi's XPax to be a nice replacement for the "too busy and (a little) too flaky" FS Passengers. It's not intrusive, has a great opening 'live airport lounge' video as it starts, and introduces a very nice ambience to an otherwise 'routine' flight prep on the Maddog. I use it on most commercial flights. 5 stars, IMO. Oh, yes - did I mention the great HiFi support? i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
December 30, 201114 yr Author Thanks Paul!I know of FSPAX and maybe I'll give it a try. I've used FSP before but it's just too much for me when I most of all only want a little bit more "alive" flight.I'm also using Aerosoft's AES for all my airports I'm flying to so one concern I have is I hope XPAX works fine side-by-side with AES so I don't end up with XPAX and AES fighting which of them should operate the jetways for example :(
December 30, 201114 yr Well, I took the plunge too. For the money, as dissappointed as I am in the computer generated voices, I will not loose any sleep over this one. I actually got an idea tonight. As I always alter soundsets of all kinds for myself over the years, I was thinking of taking the FDFSX panel freeware voices and replace the computer default files of the program with these. It might be some work renaming files, but in the end if there are enough, at least they will play automatically and sound realistic as they were all recorded on real life flights. This most likely will be easier with the english package as they seem to be most abundant. The only few that might be hard to find are the cockpit files as I don't know what's available. If I find the time to put all of this together, I would be more than happy to share the files as long as I have proper permission from the authors. Shouldn't take me more than a day to do this once I get started. If anyone here shows interest, I would be happy to do this. My way of giving back to this incredible community here at Avsim, as I consider you all my extended family. :)Best, Jeff

December 31, 201114 yr The At&T natural voices are pretty good. Do a search and listen to the voices. If I remember correctly, you can type in some text and have it read in any of the voices offered.Just a thought.Bob Officially retired
