Unwanted processes kill utility

Featured Replies

I remember quite some time ago a utility that killed preselected WindowsXP running processes and then launched FS2004.Am I remembering wrong and it was for other FS version ?The part about launching FS9 is not really important; I mostly care about killing preselected processes with a click of a button and then launching FS9.I have seen some utilities in various software websites but don't know what to trust ...Any suggestions from people who have used them ?Thanks in advance,

My answer may seem against the tide of opinion has generally issued about a services killer .. but it is not necessary if you have a PC that is not too old and has at least 2 GB of memoryThe consumption memory and CPU time drained by services are negligibleWhat is important is to be sure that there is no active application in the background that examines files and folders (such as an antivirus realtime scanning .. etc)

I suspect you are right in what you say.I do use Gamebooster ,even if the only effect it has is probably a placebo one.Cant sniff at a good placebo though.Even hide all my desktop icons at the beginning of a sim session ,just a sort of clearing the decks type of thing ,feels neat and tidy and ready to go.Daft I knowAndy

I have used Gamebooster too, however it actually cause more problems than it solved. And as has been said above most processes take up little memory. Some virus programmes do hog memory others don't.vololiberista

I would be interested to know what problems you have experienced with GB.I not convinced that it actually does a great deal, but I have never had issues or problems with its use.Andy

Same here. Never had issues, I dont know if it helps either. And how does the "tweak" work in GB anyway? (I only use game mode boost)

I get good results using a combination of GBoost and Process Explorer to shut down background processes. GBoost does a good job with the various items that Apple runs (for iTunes and my iPhone) and Process Explorer gets the rest. I also use the payware Spyware Doctor for antivirus, which has the useful feature of allowing itself to be completely shut down (drivers and all) with one click. As a result, I get pretty smooth performance in FS9 in all scenarios with an old E8500 and GTX 260 card. CCleaner is also good for cleaning out temp files and the registry.

I found gamebooster actually slowed down the sim!!! Obviously it interferred with critical memory processes. so in the end I gave up. I stll have it but I don't use it now. These problems arose with the latest update 2.2 and after.vololiberista

Interesting! Cant say I have noticed any issues myself ,but then I have not used FS9 without GB (just habit really) for a long time.Perhaps I will try without and see if I note any difference in perf.(actually I suppose I would Have to try without GB for a week or so to really see if I detect any increase/decrease in perf.I suspect the conclusion will be as with so many thngs FS placebo related ,inconclusive.Cheers and happy new year to you (and all FSers)Andy
