You'll be very pleased with the new build, Buzz...er, Jack! It'll run other apps and games very well. What video card are you putting into it?

Hey Mornin Rudy. Currently have a MSI 560Ti in my current build and thats gonna go into the the new build. I'm probably gonna take the old 9650 and an old vid card and make a dedicated MP server machine.I ordered the build on Newegg last night and gonna pick it up today at will call.. Funny thing is, I'm thinking of going back to the i5 as I thought about paying 1/3 more for probably less that 2% performance. Fickle aren't I?;)JB

Live close enough to Industry to make the trip. Shipping for 3 days was free, but I'm picking it up for other reasons.I am closer to Fry's and would have got the system there if they had the MB version and Ram, but they didn't. Prices are close enough to call it a wash.Probably not gonna put it together for a bit as Reinstalling everything is hell. Will wait till I curse this 9650 one last time as the motivating factor. One really interesting thing about researching the processors, was that I found out whats wrong with my comp. I had suspected that the CPU was wearing out, but when I asked I got answers that CPU's don't infact wear out. I learned last night that the silicone in a chip does in fact wear out before it fails entirely. Higher freq and voltage will wear away at the silicone leading to eronious errors that the CPU will have to use cycles to correct for. I believe this to be the reason why my FSX average performance (FPS) was dropping. I saw the same peak FPS, but on addons like the NGX that are really hard on the cpu, I saw larger and longer troughs in the FPS curve. Plus my Vdroop was getting larger and I needed more vcore to keep the same OC stable.I guess 2 years at 3.6 and the last 6 months at 4.05 -4.25 kinda did this chip in.JB

One thing to keep in mind is that the Ivy Bridge should be out in about 3-4 months. So u could save some money on the i5 now then upgrade to the Ivy Bridge when it comes out. Just a thought.

Intel i7 3930k are better than i5 or i7 2600 and the Ivy bridge AFAIK would be available within 3 months so I would wait as well.

Thanks Matt, but over the past 2 months I have spent 90% of the time on FSX trying to tweak it and the computer to get it running like it did 6 months ago and only 10% of the time enjoying FSX. 3-4 months is almost half a year and if I gotta wait that long to get a viable rig, especially with the tac pack and the new A2A addons coming out real soon, then I will probably toss this computer into the pool. Would like to have it for a MP server like I mentioned. ;)JB

I'm not one of those who wants to run FSX at higher than stock 4.5 LOD (damn I am only running it on a 26" panel at 1920x1200, can't see anymore detail at that res) and as long as I hit my performance goals in the NGX of a locked, smooth 30fps with TiR over UTX, FTX, Rex and AS2012 clouds, then I will be a really happy camper. So for me, I think the i5/i7 will do me just fine for another 3 years.JB

Holy shitsticks Batman! Where were you last night?Just looked at their site for the MB and ram and can't find the ram, but for a savings of more than 1/4.Might just have to have Newegg cancel the order and OC is closer. Thanks, Good call. Will be phoning them in a few.ThanksJB

No problem. I've got a Microcenter about 10 minutes from my house. I have saved at least a thousand bucks over the past few years of buying from them. It's like heaven in there for me. Processors Mobos, GPU's. NERD HEAVEN

Thanks to everyone that helped.Went with the i5 2500k the P8Z68-VPro/Gen3 and two sticks of 4gb Corsair at 1600 and 9'sJust got FSX installed and at 3.4 and all the cpu's power saving functions on (basically Bios default) the NGX running 4 frames higher as the old system at 4.05 with no stutters, no frame dropouts and no hickups durring trackir panning. I haven't even optimized my memory or GPU settings either (memory still running at 1333). For reference, my old 9650 used to run the NGX over UTX, FSDT LAX, REX and AS2012 at peak frames of 25, lowest frames of 11 and an average of about 22. Once over LAX and eastbound, I was lucky to get 22 peak with the AP engaged and everytime I turned my head with Tir it would stutter as the textures loaded. I know there was something wrong with the system, but I'm still surprised that this new system is running so well at stock bios settings and no OC at all and no FSX.cfg tweaks. The new system on the same test flight all being equal will equate to a max FPS of 34, lowest drop of 22 and only when loading the airport from 8 miles out with an average FPS of 28 and this is with very smooth panning and no microstutters in flight.Looking foreward to taking this to the most demanding situation with full weather to OC to my modest goal of a steady locked 30fps. Hopefully I won't have to OC too much to increase CPU longevity. Dunno, I'm thinking maybe 3.9-4.1 we will see.JB

*3.3Nice upgrade!
Well at stock bios settings it's throtteling to 3.4 instead of 3.3 underload and my core temps staye below 32c. So maybe the system is running very well. My short prime 95 test at a quick OC to 4.4 showed 50c max and that was only the 1st core, the rest were running below 48c after an hour. Brought the bios down to default before installing FSX.The entire upgrade cost me 480 USD vs 652 if I had gone with newegg and the i72600kJB
