FSX won't add anything to the scenery library

Featured Replies

For some reason my FSX will not for the life of it add anything to the scenery library. When i'm in the scenery library, I click the item I want to add, and it just opens the folder, and doesn't add it. Yes, the scenery has both the "scenery" and "texture" folders. But it still does it.I just bought Aerosoft las vegas X, and it won't add it! And I really don't want to add it in the world scenery and texture...

Trust me; I've tried all of those tricks... (click in white area)... etc. None work. Still won't add.And the installer didn't add it.

It's picky sometimes... it will work.. make sure you're in the base folder... the one with scenery and textures

The thing to watch out for is this: when you click on OK (the step before clicking in the white area) the folder should change! If you click OK and a new folder does NOT open and you still see the same folder, you weren't in the right base folder. Maybe you have to go one folder deeper into the path. When you click OK a new folder HAS to open and only THEN clicking in the white area will work!Last week I downloaded some freeware scenery and I didn't really have a look at the folder structure. I went to that folder (which was in the Addon Scenery folder) using the FSX Library option, I clicked once it, clicked on OK... nothing happened. So I doubleclicked on the folder instead of on OK and there I saw another folder. I clicked once on it, clicked OK, still nothing. I had to repeat this once again before OK automatically showed me the folder with the scenery..

Just thought I'd add in another solution;- Open the Scenery Library and click Add Area- Browse to the add-on scenery folder that you want to add, I'm guessing something like "Las Vegas X"- Open the folder so you see the scenery and texture folders- In the Directory field to the left of the OK button, remove the part that specifies the add-on scenery folder. It should just say "X:Microsoft Flight Simulator XAddon Scenery" instead of "X:Microsoft Flight Simulator XAddon SceneryLas Vegas X"- Click OK.Works for me every single time, where the clicks in the white space is hit & miss most of the time.

There's a sticky or pinned post on this in the Windows 7 forum (with pictures). I see you have clicked in the white area but you just need to keep trying. The sticky in the Windows 7 forum still might help as others have had issues like yours too.Best regards,Jim

Then I'm sorry. I really thought that this was the good ol' Win7 vs. FSX bug, hence my 'sure shot' text. :(

You could try to add it manually. The file is called Scenery.CFG and its located at C:ProgramDataMicrosoftFSX.

Scenery Config Editor will let you add a scenery area to FSX as long as the scenery exists on your hard drive.   You can get it on SourceForge.

I installed that last night on my old computer with FSX and I could not get it to work.Might try harder tonight.I still think here  has to be a way.Everyone else seemed to have the same complaint when they went to Win 7.I am just a late convert. Thanks,Ron

OK,I installed a scenery file.Not sure how I did it.Was clicking around and bang,it installed.At least now I know it's possible.

The folder you are trying to add needs a "scenery" and a "textures" folder. Enter that folder then click "Open" and then right click any white area in the folder.

OK,I double click the folder in add on scnery that I want to add. This puts the folder name in the box at the top with scenery and textures located below it but not in the box, just like in XP.Then do I double click(open) the folder in the upper box and then rt click in the white area?"The folder you are trying to add-Enter that folder then click "Open" and then right click any white area in the folder. This is the part that is confusing to me.What do you mean "enter that folder?"Thanks,Ron
