January 10, 201214 yr Hello,I have the following system:i5 2500k ( not overclocked yet)8GB RAMGTX 460Asus Gene IV moboPlanning to run FS9 and FSX on the same system. Was a FS9 user for years and recently upgraded my system to run FSX well.Since there was some good add-ons for FS9 that i still wanted to use , i decided to put both sims on the computer .However i found some weird issues. In FS9 , i set up the Nvidia Inspector AA settings to 8sQ ( other settings correctly set as per the Insepctor set up guide) - major shimmering textures , autogen and jagged textures. Frame rates are all over the place - sometimes dropping into the low to mid 20's momentarily when viewing the horizon . Running a default plane into Flightzone Portland frame rates drop sometimes into the mid teens ( when viewing the gate areas on takeoff) . Jumps again from 17- 40 ( i have frames locked at 40). If i add Transperancy Supersampling ( especially Sparse Grid ) , my frames drop like a rock. Tried different drivers and other Inspector settings, no improvement.a year ago i was running a 8800 GT which ran perfect for FS9 .FSX - set AA setting to 8xS ( lower settings) and have virtually no shimmers or jaggies. Scenery is beautiful , frames 40+ ( in KSEA of all places!) fairly smooth.( and i have not even optimized my system yet).Runs actually better than FS9Just wondering if FSX is better optimized for less shimmers? and wondering why i have this strange issue! .Very strange ..
January 10, 201214 yr Commercial Member Not strange really, you probably need to configure your fs9.cfgRegards Rob Prest
January 10, 201214 yr Commercial Member I've also noticed that FSX seems to run smoother with my current hardware than FS9. I can get hundreds of FPS in FS9, many more than FSX, but FS9 stutters badly at times (texture loading?) where FSX is smooth as glass. When I decided to build a new computer my idea was that if it didn't run FSX well, I'd at least have a new machine that'd run FS9 maxed out with the most complex aircraft & scenery. Now I'm just glad that it runs FSX well, and I'll fire up the old AthlonXP machine if I want to run FS9. FS9 also makes weird things happen with Aero, like new files not showing up in a particular directory until I reboot after having FS9 running. (Yes, I've flagged FS9 to kill Aero on startup, doesn't make any difference.)That said, they'll get my i7/GTX580 when they pry my cold, dead fingers from around it. I love this thing! :smile:Jim
January 11, 201214 yr HelloProbably because FSX is using all four cores whereas FS9 is only running on one.FSX runs much smoother here for me than FS9 since I got my I5 2500K, on my old E8600 there was not that much difference
