January 22, 201214 yr I have been using the default fsx flight planning for Radar Contact. It works okay but Is there something better out there that will work with RC?
January 23, 201214 yr My money's on FSBuild. January 23, 201214 yr I found vRoute (premium) too generic and inflexible, so FSBuild gets my vote too.Got my eyes on this one though, hope to see it soon.. http://www.pfpx.com/
January 23, 201214 yr Author I think I will check out fs build. Does this have a save to folder option so that I can point RC to that folder and also to archive the flight plans for later use?
January 23, 201214 yr FS Build exports files for FS9 and FSX to the appropriate folders which are the same RC normally uses. FS Build starting with version 2.4 uses AIRAC data as furnished by Navigraph. It includes the 13th cycle of 2010. If you have a model that Navigraph FMC datapacks support and you subscribe, for whatever period you subscribe for you can export as many different formats as you require at no additional cost. This lets you sync the flightplan used by aircraft navigation equipment and RC and other applications. If you are flying in FAA territories you can copy/paste real world filed flight plans (free from flightaware.com and other sources) into the FS Build route area. You might have to change the version of the SID/STAR from like UKN3 to UKN2 to match the FS Build AIRAC database.FS Build will read Active Sky data files to get temperatures and winds aloft for fuel planning. It comes with several popular model profiles and more can be downloaded from their site.It also has a pretty good auto-routing feature. Occasionally you may need to delete an errant waypoint, usually a non-unique locally defined waypoint name. If you get it PM me and I'll send a hint sheet. The fsbuild.com site tutorials are outdated but close enough to get an idea. Here's an extract of its main window showing a pasted route from flightaware.com:This is the route window (the imported plan) and part of the route grid. The exports are in the expected FS formats and for the specific nav equipment as available. Here's the recent export list:To be clear, FSB is not limited to the FAA territories. It uses available international data. FS Build has a non-moving map you can use for proofing the route. Edited January 23, 201214 yr by ronzie
January 23, 201214 yr I too have been watching PFPX, does anyone know if it will save in .pln format for RC4 to use it? Phill Dant
January 24, 201214 yr pfpx like so many other applications of this type can download real weather. If you can get a weather archive, that is better for the following reason:I'm in the Midwest USA at GMT-6. Now if I want to fly at noon let's say around EGLL need what was noon weather. I am not going to have an FS session at 6 a.m. local my time. I have my flights set between noon and 2 PM departure so I will need the previous noon at EGLL time weather. (I use FS time for my flights.) The time of day makes a difference in weather activity due to solar effects on the environment. Items such as thunderstorms building from thermal convective activity, frequent wind reduction in the evening, and other issues.I use Active Sky archived downloads based on the local time and location of my departure. FSBuild reads that data for fuel planning from winds aloft. The surface and cruise level temperatures and winds are available for performance entries into the FMC. Now if a dispatch type application can connect to archived weather data, then it would be satisfactory for my needs. It is not clear from the pfpx description if it can connect to a weather application using its weather data.
January 30, 201214 yr Hi all,As PFPX beta testing member, I can say YES to Prdant. The planner will save Flight plans in .pln format, and in many others like PMDG, LEVEL-D, and many more. The weather downloaded is the real time one from NOAA.CheersPierre
January 30, 201214 yr Thanks Pierre, I will be watching and since I just purchased the PMDG 737 NGX that is also good news. I just boughtFS Commander but am not opposed to trying something new.Regards Phill Dant
January 31, 201214 yr Hi Phill,For having used FS Commander which is a very good tool, when you'll see PFPX, you'll understand that is another kind of product, much more near of professionnal tools than any others without their complexities.eg. FSC doesn't manage ETOPS, Redispatch, Inflight redispatch, accurate fuel calculation and so on...Have a look to : http://www.pfpx.com/And it is not the last beta version presented....CheersPierre Edited January 31, 201214 yr by Pierre95870
