January 26, 201214 yr FWIW I have owned the Saitek Pro Flight Yoke for a couple years. I now use it as connection hub for the throttle quad that comes with it. It sits on my desk behind my monitor. That way I find it doesn't frustrate me anymore. IMO the Saitek Yoke suffers from three major defects. 1. It is designed so there is a very noticeable detent at the center point. 2. It is constantly losing it's calibration and sending the sim into a right bank. 3. The support from Saitek could not or would not address the calibration problem to my satisfaction. Their answer was to edit the registry. But that was a temporary fix. The problem would surface again within a few minutes. I finally figured out I could disconnect the yoke and reconnect it during flight every time it decided I should turn to the right. But that got old fast.I agree with the arjenfsx's post above. The yoke is crap. But the throttle quad is pretty good ( I have two). The pots are cheap so they are a bit noisy. But otherwise it has a nice feel and appearance. January 26, 201214 yr Well... I've had a Saitek yoke and single quadrant for a couple of years now... I've never had a moments problem with it. I don't use the software it ships with, I use FSUIPC (registered) to set up the axis and button assignments and for calibration. With a bit of skill and diligence you can make it do almost anything, the mouse macros are a fantastic addition for customising your switches. Yes, the yoke can get a little sticky and stiff but a can of spray on lithium grease now and then sorts it out. If I had a wish it would be that the desk clamp was reversible so I could clamp it UNDER, not on-top of, my desk, so I fashioned one myself. As far as flap detents are concerned... I use some of those thin drinking straws you get on kiddies fruit juice cartons, cut to length and glued at the correct position... then snip through the straw to allow the lever to pass through... not only does it offer some detent-like resistance to prevent adding or retracting one notch to far, it make s a nice satisfying "click" as the lever passes through the "gate". Also, I guy I have been talking to in Italy has designed (and will sell you) a set of replacement tops for the levers to match a 737---- currently this is for those with TWO separate throttle levers but I've persuaded him to think about making an alternative set, so that one lever looks like both throttles. I can post his website details if you like. He's not cheap, though. As for nose-wheel steering if you haven't got pedals yet - I have but got no room for them at my current desk, so I use the left/right switch on the right yoke-arm - C1/C2 for rudder left - repeat while held, rudder centre when released, and the same for right rudder on the other switch. The latest version of FSUIPC - 4,751, has a nice new feature to allow you to set up your profiles as "type" of aircraft, not specific repaints like before, so you can use the same profile for all your NGX models and repaints.the Saitek pro-yoke and quadrant, with modifications to suit, plus a registered version of FSUIPC is well worth the money and will give you a fantastic flight experience. The only place to go from there is a full blown home cockpit. Drew Melia, Lancashire UK Captain, InvictaJet VA http://www.invictajet.com
January 26, 201214 yr I'm really sorry to say, but I recommend you cancel your order. The Saitek Yoke System is crap. I've had two of them and both failed after around 6 months. But that's not the only thing. After a few minutes of flying everytime, the lubrication gets so bad that the aileron axis will get squeeky and unsmooth, the elevator axis is always stickyand i have had mine for over a year, use it almost every day, and haven't gotten any calibration issues, squeaky axis, or sticky movementyou just had a bad seti had a saitek X52 stick/throttle system before my yoke/quad/pedals setup and i didn't have any problems with that eithersometimes you get a bad apple, doesn't mean the whole barrel is bad Mitch
January 26, 201214 yr I have owned my Saitek system for 3 years without any problems.I re-calibrate the yoke and throttle every so oftem but that ismore software than hardware. As some others say, I use FSUIPC(registered)and find that it allows full use of all the (many) switches. For instance I use theswitches below the throttles to change the heading and altitude bugs. The other oneI use to move the eye point in and out . etc,etc for the other switches on the yoke.David David Pedder
January 26, 201214 yr Author Hi captainsI still following all the comments, positives and negatives. Thanks for all of them.I placed the order already and i wil see if i will get a bad apple ;-)The drinking straw trick sounds very interesting.Ill probably copy this once warranty expiredOliver --
January 27, 201214 yr I've had mine for at least a year and no problems. After the warranty expired,I used Ken Wier's Modhttp://sehlah.com/yoke.pdfYou only have to be careful with the roll potentiometer gearing. January 27, 201214 yr Another one with no issues except for the "ghost button" that gave me grief in the beginning. I used a CH Products setup with the yoke, pedals and throttle quadrant for a number of years, but I am much more satisfied with the Saitek stuff. However, some people are of the opposite opinion.I have two throttle units so six levers assigned as:lever 1 = speedbrake/spoilerlever 2 = throttle 1lever 3 = throttle 2lever 4 = reverser 1lever 5 = reverser 2lever 6 = flapsThis is how I have it setup (hopefully you see only a link and not the picture...): http://www.kitte.ax/setup.jpgIn FSUIPC you can set up an axis as a tiller which means the rudder pedal will not affect the rudder when on the ground, you turn with the tiller and can do the control checks with the rudder/yoke. I also have a Saitek X45 connected with a rudder control on the throttle unit that I use for this.Edit: I actually have two yokes and pedals. A friend bought it for his son that never used it so he said either I come and fetch it or he throws it on the dump :) Unfortunetaly I can't use the throttle since it uses a kind of connection that only has one port available on the yoke.
