Prepar3D with FSDT scenery

Featured Replies

Hi all, anyone having a performance hit in Prepar3D with FSDT scenery. FSX gives me about 20fps around KLAX with the SB2600K and all the slides maxed out day or night and UT2/UT/REX/GEX installed. However with Prepar3D in day I get 7fps but jumps to 22fps at night with the said add-ons. (using stock Mooney aircraft)I like Prepar3d for the major stability improvement running in full screen mode and 3 X monitors, also the night lighting is simply stunning. I've noticed no other major improvements between the two SIMS however I did have FSX tweaked well. For me FSX was great but would crash mid-flight on a long haul. I'm of the belief that most of today’s FSX tweaks are already incorporated into Prepar3D (i.e. HIGHMEMFIX) so I'm not aware of any that will help yet.I have posted this over at FSDT and awaiting a response, but I know all their scenery has been modified with a Prepar3D installer so I'm guessing they are not aware of any major compatibility issues.I thank LM for their involvement with FSX and giving it a spark of life.IM 22600KGTX590

Hello Iceman,I have FSDT LAX in Prepar3d along with Active sky 2012 and "My traffic" for P3d and I get about 21-23 fps at LAX (sitting on active runway) with most settings high. I have bloom on and autogen set high. So something seems amis if your getting such low fps. My frames dont go up at night like your reporting. Mine seem to be the same regardless of time of day. Just for the heck of it, try turning bloom off (if its on), and make sure you have Baythemtry (whatever its called) turned off.Rob

How did you get it to work with P3D?

Hi,All FSDT airport installers are compatible with P3D.

How did you get it to work with P3D?

Thanx Comanche for your replyI played with the slides and managed to get 15fps in the mooney sitting on RWY07L but when I loaded the NGX the frame rate shot up to 20. So the little bug smasher is a bit hungry on my mojo, I was only using it for testing since it's a stock aircraft. I'm sorta happy with that, but I did notice that not one of the old tweaks from FSX made any difference what so ever to Prepar3D like what is stated in the Learning Center. The night lighting is worth the switch over from FSX alone but so far this new platform is looking promising. They're talking over at the Prepar3D.com forum under the hardware topic about making sure the hardware acceleration is on. Dose anyone know if this is only available on GPUs other than NVIDIA since my change settings button in properties is not allowing access.I have the GTX590 and latest drivers.thanksIM2

Glad to hear your getting better FPS now. Odd that the Mooney would cause this. Its pretty tame on FPS. But who uses it anyway (lol), so not a big deal as long as the NGX is getting decent FPS. Still, I think you should be getting a few FPS higher with your system specs. (do you overclock?)Rob

Your rite, I was expecting the FRs to be the same as FSX or maybe a little higher but I'm wondering if it's a SB thing or my GPU. I had an OC 980X to 4.4 but it still struggled with FSX. After reading posts on this site I went out and purchased the (much) cheaper 2600K and OC it to 4.9. It brought FSX to its knees and I was cruising around in any PMDG aircraft landing at any addon scenery with about 25fps or higher. Only problem with FSX was it would randomly exit to the desktop midway thru a long flight or OOM on approach. As far as the GPU goes it may not have been the best choice for FSX at the time of purchase although I did ask the man at the store for the best card. Now I believe it may have been a waste as they're having a few issues with the drivers. For example FSX with the latest drivers really slowed things down but the older 260 drivers were ok, however with Prepar3D I have notice no change between old and new drivers. So it maybe a SB thing, time will tell. I'm guessing my CPU is shovelling too much stuff at something and bottlenecking somewhere. I just read on this site others are having a FR slow down using multi screens with Prepar3D this maybe the cause. I just tried single screen and the FR are locked a 30fps but as soon as I go back to the 3 screens the FR halve. This is on the ground at LAX (FSDT) with 300 or more AI sitting at the gates. once I go flying I'm back to 30fps.So don't tell me comanche you are using mult screens or I'll be scratching my head again. Thanks for you input.IM 2

No, I have 2 monitors. One 27" for P3d in windowed mode and a second I use for Plan G. So it could be the multi monitor thing is causing a hit. Maybe someone from Lockheed can shed some light on this, but it sounds like it might be the reason.Rob

Hi,You are going to take some type of hit with multi monitors, keep in mind your increasing the amount of pixels being displayed. I run three monitors at a resolution of 5760x1200x32, if I run one monitor at 1920x1200x32 I know I'll see an increase in performance. With that being said, using three monitors and P3D, performance is MUCH smoother than three monitors via FSX. The only way I'll go back to FSX, is if P3D becomes incompatible with PMDG's 737NGX and I'm unable to run an older version of P3D.

Thanks guys,I'm running 3 30in screens at 6044 X 1080 and once I got FSX tweaked properly (BPs and rejects stuff) it run very well. I was getting a lot of stutters without these tweaks. I'm getting these stutters with Prepar3D although not as bad as FSX. As I said before for me non of the FSX tweaks work in the new SIM. I even ran the CFG thru *******'s tool and noticed not the slightest bit of difference to anything. This Prepar3D SIM is going to knock FSX socks off once we get a few more developers on board. I've got most of the good stuff running now like all the UT GEX REX FSDT UT2 and PMDG addons but I really miss AES and KSFO from FlightBeam. Oh and thanks Mike for your input over on the AES forum I hope Oliver will come on board too with P3D IM2

Hi,I have flight Beams KSFO working with P3D, just make sure you copy all the required folders from FSX to P3D, make sure you include FSX/MISC folder or you'll end up with missing buildings.

Mike,"The only way I'll go back to FSX, is if P3D becomes incompatible with PMDG's 737NGX and I'm unable to run an older version of P3D."I have P3D ver 1.3 ok with PMDGNGX .. are you using an older version currently?

Best Regards,

Hi,I'm using 1.3, updated P3D the day the Academic version was released. The PMDG 737-NGX has been working just fine.
